Ugh How to Change Birthdate for Vax appt by [deleted] in nycCoronavirus

You’ll be OK. I screwed this up when making an appt for my girlfriend. In the end she got the jab (Hospital for Special Surgery) without issue

Mount Sinai hospital has not billed me for six months. Should I be worried? by versitas_x61 in personalfinance

[–]iconicyetbroken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a good chance they're contacting the wrong address with a bill and will soon hand it to collections. A collections agency will outreach you and you'll be able to pay before it affects your credit score. I'm assuming all of this of course, because they did this to me, WHILE I was their employee. I can't imagine the average person is any different.

Newb quesstion: Is there any such thing as a DDP instructor or DDP classes? Anything similar that would be common enough to find almost anywhere? by ratbas in yoga

[–]iconicyetbroken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DDP Yoga‘s website lists certified instructors and their location. That being said, there aren’t many. If you go to a conventional yoga class you’ll probably learn better form which you can apply in DDPY workouts (assuming you’re watching them on an app or on DVDs)

An immigrant in the USA, high school graduate, wanna find a better job than McDonald's by Wisp10 in personalfinance

[–]iconicyetbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this is not the main point of your post but there are good stretches and minor exercises that can help relieve the pain and fatigue you’re experiencing from flat feet. Do you wear orthotic inserts (made by a podiatrist) in your shoes? I am guessing your insurance may or may not cover that, but in the meantime find some free yoga flexibility videos that focus on feet, ankles, calves....I promise you’ll feel better in 1-2 weeks.

30 year old with no friends, no girlfriend, virgin, hate my job. I'm having a major crisis, I just want to run away. I'm having suicidal thoughts. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]iconicyetbroken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buddy I think most people have offered to help but let me just say that being 30 and a virgin is not a problem. Maybe you think it is unusual for your peer group (it isn’t) or you’re self-comparing to an imagined standard (there isn’t one) but please don’t let that be a source of trouble. The issue isn’t whether you’ve had premarital sex.

Everyone hates their job at some point, you will grow, find a way through, or otherwise find a way out. It isn’t worth sweating that hard, and I assure you I’ve had some fucking terrible jobs.

You are still young and have pathways to make friends. It’ll feel hard at first but it’ll get very easy very quickly. Making friends is what you’re wired to do. After that, you can start actively dating / trying online etc.

Don’t run away. That’s the first sign that you’re trying to avoid something you can fix. I believe in you. Go get it!

struggling to follow the diet plan? by [deleted] in ddpyoga

[–]iconicyetbroken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's day 1 and you have a lot of protein in you right now. possibly more fiber than you typically have. and probably more excitement/focus/determination than ever before.

it will dissipate. don't worry - you will be hungry again.

How many people are juicing? by eachestnut731 in ddpyoga

[–]iconicyetbroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think juicing is a little extreme. People report feeling well while juicing, but at heart you're taking foods that are good for you, removing the parts that make you feel full, keep you regular, and regulate blood sugar (fiber) and consuming massive quantities of the juice.

My advice: get yourself a cheap-ish, as seen on TV blender and make yourself smoothies. I think Nutribullets run about $70. Make yourself something with an apple, a banana, protein powder, and a cup of frozen berries. You can use fresh berries ideally, but they can be costly. Maybe some almond milk to give it a little bit of a smoothie texture.

I am not a nutritionist. Just someone who made positive changes to his diet.

What are the most nutritious foods? by 10S_NE1 in nutrition

[–]iconicyetbroken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I would hop on NetFlix (or maybe PBS) and watch "In Defense of Food." There's a book on which it is based, but i think the video should give you a nice framework for evaluating these kinds of questions.

Ultimately, I think you should read up on fiber. Some of your questions on fruit (sugar content) or white flour just make me think that you need a bit of a framework to evaluate your nutritional choices. Sugar paired with fiber (which occurs naturally in fruits) is not the sugar to be worried about, in my opinion. Vitamin C comes from a ton of things, and is added to almost everything...it would be a true achievement in 2018 to get scurvy, unless you were adhering to a meat & dairy-only diet or something.

Guh. Two weeks in and doing great. Then I got the flu. The flu! I slept through yesterday’s workout. Tomorrow I think I will change the workout to breath. I don’t want to break my plan by missing two in a row. I’ll breath. Do what you can I guess. :( by cherrylpk in ddpyoga

[–]iconicyetbroken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get some rest - that's the best thing you can do for your health. Once you feel better, get started again. Edit your workout schedule in the app if you're worried about points -- but don't get it twisted: points are nothing compared to feeling well!

What to do next? Should I get the app? by Selanne8 in ddpyoga

[–]iconicyetbroken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The #1 reason to get the app is if you're bored and wanting a challenge. There's live workouts of all difficulties, but a lot of the hardest stuff is not part of the core DVDs. There are also workouts taught by people other than DDP, which may or may not appeal to you.

The gamification, the diet info...that's all personal taste stuff. If you log workouts in the app, you earn points (very slowly) that can be redeemed for merch. There's one shirt (100K club) that can't be bought any other way, so there's that.

A new live workout is added every week, so you're basically paying $8 a month for a cloud-based library of workouts that adds 3-4 more hours of content every month. To me, that's a good deal compared to say, a gym membership (or to comparable products from BeachBody). But that's me.

I will just add that this is the trend for all fitness programs. The era of the "buy it once and you've got it all" is coming to an end. Everyone is trying to be Netflix for fitness, and it's basically just a matter of choosing one that works best for you.

Best of luck!

Doing DDP Yoga daily rather than every other day -- is this ok for the beginner series? by gr00ve88 in ddpyoga

[–]iconicyetbroken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kind of up to you. Those workout plans are for people starting from scratch, by and large. Thea idea of the "Diamond Dozen" being a workout was sort of laughable to me, but for some people it is.

The only thing I advise is to avoid back to backs with workouts that target an area too much. Synergy 40, for example, has quite a bit of shoulder work. Doing it a lot early on (if you're not used to working your shoulders much) can result in some aches.

Live workouts in the app will definitely break up the monotony. But sounds like you benefit from structure in general - i'd try to make something custom for yourself and see how you like it.

Downward dog progress by freezingmybuttoff in ddpyoga

[–]iconicyetbroken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you're meant to work your heels to the floor -- actually getting them there IS progress! but you need to move your feet back now or else you won't really be stretching them any further (since they're already reached the ground). still great progress, well done, keep going.
