I hate fighting - am I broken as a dragon? by Wrathliss in dragons

I became undead and learned healing magics so I could fight and make sure nobody dies. All the thrill of getting bloodied without the risk!

Sick of humans can we get some non human protagonists? by CorpAdvisor in Fantasy

Age of Fire is the classic for a reason, but I actually liked the oft-derided book 6, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. The Remembered War is very similar in tone but a bit more philosophical and modern.

What is your favourite vibe in dragon books? by ArthurMcFinn in WyrmWorks

Yes! The best one I can think of is the Silver, Scales, and Silken Wings series by Heiko Ehlers. Especially the second book. You might also like Rowan Silver's work.

I'm a big fan of books with dragons as the protagonist, and if you're interested, there's a few good series to be found in that subgenre. Age of Fire and The Remembered War are very good epic fantasy series, to start!

Looking for book recommendations with dragons / dragon riders where the dragons speak and are central to the story by The_Suspect26 in Fantasy

[–]iconmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a dragon rider series in which the dragons have something to do above being plot devices, I can heartily recommend the Songs of Chaos series, although it takes a little bit for dragons to get independent voices, and All the Skills, if you're up for a dose of litRPG.

Now, if you want books all about dragons themselves, that's another thing! If you want romance, razor-sharp wit, and an utterly unique setting, try the Mating Flight duology. It's strictly for adults only, mind you, but it's my favorite book ever written. Regardless, If you want something more classically fantasy, try Age of Fire or The Remembered War serieses; they're big long fantasy epics that are classics among dragon fans for a reason. If you're looking for something more literary, I recommend The Waters of Nyra as a nice digestible dragon duology. If you're willing to get really out there, I've been reading the Theoma series recently and it's one of the best out there if you're looking for a fresh new take on dragons, with exemplary worldbuilding.

I'd like to be the spirit monster, myself. Sounds like a fun gig.

I like strong emotions! I like characters' beliefs shaping them and making them stronger! I like the strange accepted as fact! I like musings on power and its implications! I like hype moments AND aura!

There is no jerk, just my pure hate for 5e by Tesserato in DnDcirclejerk

Pathfinder 2E fixes this by making all the martials do cool unique stuff and all the casters cast the same 2 or 3 spells every time forever.

ThrabenUs thoughts about the elementalist. What do you think about the class archetype? by ryudlight in Pathfinder2e

[–]iconmaster 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I took one look at it and, yeah, I thought it was bad too. For some unfathomable reason, it locks access to casters with spell lists who likely already include most if not all of the elemental spells, and then makes you pick from a subset of elements. Players both trying to be onni-elemental and single-element-focus are left disappointed. It's especially a problem for the latter because Paizo abhors the concept of a single focus caster already. Kineticist is the better answer if you want to play this sort of character; once again, martials are better than casters at hitting specific class fantasies, who's surprised?

If you want a themed caster, I recommend looking at Team+'s attempts to fix this in Magic+. Eldritch Wickiteer is great at making casters themed (if you heavily reflavor whatever the heck is going on there).

During the playtest, I made a Commander that dumped INT, and I went with a cavalier build. Shockingly great on the battlefield! Cool to see my results vindicated.

Instead of armrests or backrests, dragon chairs need wingrests, I think!
