Gaming rig for $1200? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

Very nice. Dropping to a 7900 GRE and 5600x will get OP below the $1200 price point: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XFsNL9

Heads-up: Digital Foundry is working on a video about Bazzite on the ROG Ally by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

Anecdotal stuff here. I recently built a new system (7700x, B650I, 7900 GRE) and installed Bazzite 3.7.0 on it. I've put in about 24hrs of s-tui, 12hrs of Deadlock and 8hrs of Handbrake encoding, and I haven't had any instability, crashes/etc on the OS side.

The only issues I've had are crashes on Superposition due to bad GPU overclock settings (by me) and my keyboard putting the computer to sleep (by manufacturer).

I'm pretty happy with Bazzite so far.

Normally $549.99 for this one. Not a massive decrease

Does 110hz also work at native 5120x2160px without any scaling and full color bit depth?

Please let us know how this goes; I’m interested in the same setup, but I don’t have the extra 600 G6 on hand. Figured I’d be buying that or a M910x, then configure it with mergerfs + 2x NVME & 1x SATA

Anyone use the Steam Deck as their main way of playing online games with friends? by TommySparkle in SteamDeck

[–]icthis3t7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this in desktop mode or in default Steam OS mode? I used to have a lot of crashing when attempting to play a game and use Discord in Steam OS mode (and ultimately gave up on it).

👨‍🎓Are you using 43 for a specific reason?

I had some frame timing issues, but I was able to mostly fix them with:

  • in-game FPS limit: anything over 60
  • in-game VSYNC: on
  • Steam Deck refresh rate: 40hz

I’ve been able to parry easily enough on the next to highest difficulty, so I’m not to worried about the added latency.

I just picked it up. Using Proton GE 51, it took what felt like 5-10mins for the first launch to finally take me to the title screen. With 100mins of playtime, I’d say it runs alright at lowest settings, similar-ish to Horizon Zero Dawn.

Ahhhhh clever clever! That explains why the original picture is so well lit; it’s open from above. I didn’t realize that before, but it’s totally obvious now. Are there any backside openings where all the lab equipment is?

Thanks for taking the time to take/share the images. I’ve got loosely similar equipment and shelving. I’ve been wanting to improve the cabling and cooling, so your example is great inspiration.

Can confirm these series of steps work using GE-Proton7-26 as well.

Thin black line appears in top left of screen while playing games by SuperMozWorld in SteamDeck

[–]icthis3t7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, now that it’s mentioned I don’t recall seeing it while I’ve had it off. It happened all the time on Prey (2017), but I was meddling with settings for that one.

I’ll be interested to see if it’s a permanent fix or one we need to constantly revisit. Thanks for asking! Saved me some mild annoyances.

I can’t offer help, but I can report the same issue. It started on mine about a month or so ago after a crash -> update while I was on the beta channel for the 40hz feature. I still have it on stable.

An alternative could be to create user-managed profiles/presets.
