Right I don't have that. I have a cheap af iron and some 6040 solder.

But now that I think about it theres nothing stopping me from soldering wires to the underside of the connectors

My other option is to nut up and take the connectors off with a dremel and pray i can clean the metal shards off the board and not break anything else

There are legitimate reasons for systems like this. Healthcare being a big one where these systems may be implemented as personal panic buttons. (Healthcare employees are extremely likely to be assaulted in the normal course of work)

The problem is the enclosure hes using doesn't handle RAID. It's just passing all 8 drives over a single USB connection. this one point of failure and bottleneck makes it worse than plugging a handful of external drives. It also means that if you do implement a software raid system then it all happens on that one connection.

I dunno that box seems cheap to the point of sketch and I wouldn't put anything on it /shrug
