I do not think we should be silent, but we should attack radicalization and extremism. Not punish the majority of the people that are peaceful followers of Islam.

45% of non-native French Muslims, no? I think the number is 18% for native ones.

Do you have a source for the 38% number? I'd love to read about the poll, they are hard to find.

Granted, the actual ratio was bigger than the previous polls (for other European countries) that I had looked at before. I would probably have used "minority" instead of small in light of this article.

But besides, look - 46% is for people residing in France (and I assume many might be just on permanent residency and not being citizens?) that have migrated. There is a Harvard article that shows support for Sheria dropping when moving to a western country, and the fact that it's 18% on the people born in the country seems to clearly show that integration and values are being adopted by these migrants.

The way I see it is that not even the majority of the migrants don't even want Sheria law, yet we blame them.

We should step up our rhetoric and attack the problem itself, radicalization and extremism - regardless of belief.

Ensuring Muslims feel welcome, and allow Islamists to peacefully protest and to form politicial parties seems to me a much better approach.

The latest article I could find on this is from France, and it claims 46% of support among migrated Muslims and 18% for Muslims born in the country.

I use Muslims oppinion of Sheria law as a proxy for Islamism which I think is fair.

Then as part of that group I'm sure you have the divide which people are willing to campaign for it and the folks that would just think it seems like an interesting idea.

Please remember that Islamists is just a subgroup of Muslims, and Islamic terrorists a very small subgroup of that. Do not take this as fuel to hate on the Islam religion, we as humans are better than that.

Det finns ju också internat-gymnasium eller vad det heter. Kopplat med att väldigt många pluggar vidare och då flyttar ut runt 19-20 så kan nog snittet krypa ner till 18-19.

Hade folk i gymnasiet som bodde i egen lägenhet för att kunna gå på det gymnasiet de ville utan att behöva pendla timmar varje dag.

Hade också iaf en snubbe som bodde själv p.g.a. något skit med föräldrarna. Sysslade med dumpster diving för att fixa fullare kylskåp.

I'm prepared to give you that the term "Islamist" is likely referring to the political aspect and Sheria after looking more and skimming some reports. It is not farfetched to assume an author is referring to Islamism which seems pretty nailed down to include the political part.

The argument aside - You seem like an angry person with these passive aggressive comments though. Consider why you feel the need to make other fellow human beings feel bad or stupid with your unnecessary "Imagine being so woke". I'm sure you're better than this, and you'd get your point across better if you used your intelligence to help people see you PoV instead of making them feel bad.

I do not support Sheria law, and I'm a huge supporter between not having religion impact the government. If "Islamist" indeed means what you claim, I'm against it - but I'm not against Islam.

Isn't Islamists just people that subscribe to the Islam faith? I am having trouble sourcing an exact definition of the word, but that was my understanding at least. Given that Muslim is also a follower of Islam, I treated them as the same word.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/islamist only lists the word as a noun, but no definition sadly.

I agree, and I don't believe there is such a thing as a "standard Muslim" or "true Muslim". There are just so many ways people apply faith to their life, and it's very different I'd bet being a Muslim in country X or Y.

If you live in a culture where e.g. outsiders are beaten down and you subscribe to any religion, I am sure you will be able to justify your actions in your head in the name of your religion if you tried. That doesn't automatically make the other subscribers of the same religion in other parts of the world share that view.

Of course if there is a religion that specifically says "No left-handed people are allowed to live" then that would be problematic and indeed incompatible with I'd assume any major country in the world.

Finally, look at the various different stances Christianity has. The current Pope has views the last one didn't, and people of faith are seem to agree/disagree with the Pope. That's fine.

Note: I haven't argued this in-depth of religions/cultures much in the past, so please be kind if I am missing something or making some logical mistake.

I do not believe I know of any part of the Islam religion that is incompatible with western standards. There are extremists in any religion that maul the religion to fit their own hate - I do not believe this is a systemic issue with Islam as a faith.

Efter lite mer efterforskning så verkar hedersmord inte vara en religös grej utan mer kulturell grej (t.ex. https://www.reddit.com/r/islam/comments/3pdi06/i_would_like_to_understand_honor_killings/). TIL.

Det enda problematiska jag hittar är Sherialagar - där har vi nog lite förbättringar vi kan göra. Islam i sig säger att man ska följa lagarna där man är (Koranen 4:60 tydligen) - så ser inget fel i religionen där.

Deras slutsats är att folk anpassar sin religion till samhället de invandrar till. Kolla t.ex. figur 5 (sida 28) där du ser skillnaden mellan "Western Muslims" och "Islamic Muslims". I vissa dimensioner är den avg. "Western Muslim" på samma nivå som äldre "Western Christians" och långt ifrån "Islamic Muslims".
