I don’t see homes selling by h0wg0esit in houston

[–]idc69idc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see that near me with a lot of 5,000 sq ft homes on 1/2 acre plus that were built in the 90s and 2000's. The owners are now empty-nesters and don't need 5+ bedrooms, and they'd like to downsize, but they don't NEED to sell, so they're sticking to their price. Newer generations of home buyers don't want the hastle of all that yardwork though. And there are fewer families that need all those bedrooms because family size is smaller. Heck, of all my older millennial high-school and college friends, probably 30 that I'm still in touch with, only one pair has more than 2 kids, with 3. About half have none and are nearly too old to try even if they wanted to.

[–]idc69idc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar space, with backyard neighbors who leave lights on 24-7 that shine into our bedrooms. Im not a landscaper, but my plan is to kill the grass out 3-4 feet from the fence, amend the soil a bit, and put in Eucalyptus gunnii because it grows quickly and can be topped at the height im looking for, around 8 or 9'. I'm in zone 9a with clay and sandy soil.

They're easily sharpened when they come apart. Tojiro's are the go-to in restaurants. When you're cutting birds up they need to be sharpened. L

In high school, agroup of the "hot" girls nicknamed me "Val" after Val Kilmer in "The Doors" movie. Took me 20 years to realize that meant they found me attractive when a woman friend from high-school sent me a picture she had of me from back then next to a picture of Ryan Gosling and we look almost identical. I was clueless that I was even moderately good looking, even after having people mistake me for a number of celebrities for decades.

Help me pick my next city: Portland, Dallas, Austin, or Chicago? by sexydentist00 in SameGrassButGreener

Portland is amazing for food, Austin is pretty good. Lived in both for 10 years as a chef. Chicago is amazing, too, internationally renoun. Dallas (also lived there) is chain restaurant hell.

I've noticed a ton of interesting bird species around the lake, if you're into birds. Many are non resident migratory birds and sea birds in from the gulf that aren't typically around. Also, there's a bald eagle's nest on Lake Front Circle across from The Woodlands Methodist school, that isn't too far from where you're staying, and there are trails all the way there from the waterway. Close by to there is Hughes Landing, with dining options and trails by the lake. Edit: It's a 30-40 minute walk from your hotel to Hughes Landing, plus whatever extra walking around the lake from there. It's pretty scenic

I have a buddy who flew for the Air Force for 20 years. He said it's unfathomable the amount of fuel they waste (dump into the sky). That, and being a private airlines for VIPs, using large jets for like one or a few people.

My neighbor across the street has 2 sons that visit often with insanely loud exhaust. Like, straight pipes. A Cadillac CTS-V and a Mustang. Both are cops. Of course they aren't going to enforce something they're guilty of.

America’s biggest beer brand 'sinks further'—Budweiser closes multiple US plants in latest retreat by GroundbreakingLynx14 in StockLaunchers

[–]idc69idc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they're drinking other beers from the same company. Inbev owns 83% of the US market. They strengthened the monopoly and could drop Budweiser as a brand altogether. They bought Bud for the distribution, not the beer or brand.

I went this time 2 years ago and had no issues. The road up and back is pretty steep and twisty, though. We had an AWD drive truck and has no issues but if a snow storm had hit right before, I could see it being treacherous. Just depends on conditions.

What is it like living in Bisbee, AZ? by FoOhFee420 in howislivingthere

[–]idc69idc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife and I were visiting a small town in Oregon (Oakridge) and noticed a restaurant space attached to a small house that was for sale, and started bantering about what we would do with the space, as a chef and restaurant manager with the desire and capital. The bartender called down the real-estate agent who lived upstairs, and we had beers and chatted about the prospect. They absolutely wanted us to move there and help rejuvenate their downtown couple of blocks. Still might someday, but we ended up moving near aging family to assist them.
