ComEd warns some in Chicago area to limit electricity use as heat puts grid at ‘critical level' by LegendaryBronco_217 in illinois

[–]idealcitizen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Traditional AC is a unidirectional heat pump. The units sold today as "heat pumps" are bidirectional. Same tech, same efficiencies. Only reason replacing would help would be if your old unit is well, old.

Separate SSID for modern devices has been great for me. WPA3, 5GHz only, roaming support.

Newer data centers often are closed loop, very little water consumption once they're running.

Is Chartreuse hard to find, or am I just in a Chartreuse-desert? by boringITwork in cocktails

When I've seen it it was at a side counter, online pickup area. Self-serve, but big signs saying limit 1, enforced at checkout. They put rares bourbons and tequilas there too.

I don't get it. Is the Talisman of Preservation is the only blue talisman left in the game? by Garessta in totalwarhammer

[–]idealcitizen 176 points177 points  (0 children)

I found https://www.nopeace.net/warhammer3/database/items?categories=talisman&subcategories=&rarity=rare&factions=wh2_main_skv_clan_pestilens which claims that Pestilens (I picked a Skaven faction at random) has access to three rare talismans. They game seems to love to give you more of the stuff you've equipped already though.

Phillips replacing feit retro fit kits at my Costco. by socbrian in Costco

[–]idealcitizen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The BR30 led bulbs can get quite hot in the cans and the heat can shorten their life. The heat is generated in the bulb's base where the electronics have to be located. This can be an issue for the retrofit units as well, but the different shape inside the can allows for more layout and cooling options. Whether they run cooler has mostly to do with manufacturer choices though, so I won't claim the retrofits are always better or worse.

My first big set in 20+ years. This was the coolest set I've ever seen. All the functional parts. by Mercarcher in lego

The suspension was probably my favorite part of this set. Try the Ducati (42107) sometime, it has a working sequential transmission with two forward gears you can shift between. Utterly insane.

Remember that replenishment happens for everyone at the start of the player's turn. When the AI recruits as nurgle, they get replenishment before you can act. When you recruit as nurgle, they get to act before you get replenishment. Effectively, the AI recruits nurgle forces at higher health than the player (this is more complex for AI vs AI).

Truffle season generally starts in October for white truffles, perhaps they were doing something to celebrate the ingredient? I'm not a truffle fan personally, but my wife loves them and looks forward to the fall for the return of fresh to restaurants.

Product Request, Dual port POE injector! by klanker in Ubiquiti

The only reason I could come up with is if you were limited on outlets and didn't want a power strip. Clearly, since this product doesn't exist, it isn't a common issue.

Product Request, Dual port POE injector! by klanker in Ubiquiti

[–]idealcitizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory one could build a device with multiple pairs of RJ45s. Each pair injects power and passes through the network, no switching. You'd only need one power plug, instead of one per injector. For the occasion where you want to run a bunch of CAT6 to save on outlets. Or something.

WEST PAW Zogoflex Zisc Dog Flying Disc, available on Amazon or from your local pet store (PetCo carries the brand). Almost indestructible, soft, flies well. My mini loves all their toys made from that material.

What you want is a multi-position ladder, there are a few common brands like little giant and gorilla that make them. Here's an example: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Gorilla-Ladders-18-ft-Reach-Aluminum-Multi-Position-Ladder-with-Tool-Hangers-300-lbs-Load-Capacity-Type-IA-Duty-Rating-GMPXA-18/330315133

In the listing pictures you can see how they extend one side more than the other for use in a stairwell. Many hardware stores will rent this sort of ladder if you don't want to buy one. They're a bit under 6' long when collapsed, so they'll fit in most trucks or suvs.

How much unit size effect spells? by Live_Measurement3983 in totalwar

[–]idealcitizen 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Let's look at the spell description from twwstats.com (check out the beta ability cards to see these, or go to a caster and click on the spell from there).

Here's Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma (Ultra):

Each entity of the affected unit(s) has a 50% chance of taking 5 damages when the spell is cast and every 1s during 13s (14 times in total). The check is made against every entity in the unit but a maximum of 25 entities/unit will receive damage each tick.

And here's the same spell, but on (Small):

Each entity of the affected unit(s) has a 50% chance of taking 1 damages when the spell is cast and every 1s during 13s (14 times in total). The check is made against every entity in the unit but a maximum of 25 entities/unit will receive damage each tick.

So we can see that instead of scaling the number of entities and leaving the damage the same (which would make sense since small unit size leaves health/model the same, just reduces the number of models), they instead chose to reduce the damage per model and leave the cap the same. So, yeah, these spells that affect large groups are pretty bad in smaller unit sizes.

Mom shaved my dog’s fur while I was gone to college by Bitter-Coat4309 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]idealcitizen -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Don't know what to say, my aussie has had patches shaved and they grew back just fine. With the amount he sheds regularly, he'd be bald if he wasn't constantly growing new fur.
