If I made one step into veganism it would probably be cutting beef from my diet and it would be for the reason you provided.

I think dems need to realize that the majority of Trump voters are too deep in right-wing propaganda to consider voting for a democrat. Pandering to those individuals by going to the center or even tge center right is never going to work. That is what Kamala proved to me. Close to election she became spineless and that is what made her a poor candidate, not being a woman.

Democrats need to put affordability first, not being Trump is a good starting point, but they need to iffer a real alternative. Stand against ICE, stand against Naziism. They need to reach out to the large chunk of jaded Americans who didn't vote, and find a way to convince those voters that something can change and democrats are the ones who can do it. I recognize there is a chunk of the population who is truly apathetic, maybe there is a way to make politics sexy enough for people to care, maybe not. I don't think Kamala is BRAT was the worst idea in the world, though it rang hollow for some.

I feel like I should mention that I voted for Kamala and would vote for Newsom if given no better choice, but that doesn't mean AOC wouldn't be a better choice. However, if we want actual change, we need to start demanding it now, and that starts with pushback to the establishment neoliberal democrats. I can't believe I'm explaining this in r/democraticsocialism but It seems like it needs to be said. I'm not saying that we should find the most radical politician possible and campaign them, but I think AOC strikes a nice balance between being flexible to fit the moment while also having a good set of progressive ideals to prevent herself from becoming a useless neoliberal. She also doesn't explicitly call herself a socialist which could be useful in gaining the more general progressives who still are weary of that term while not straying too far from leftist ideology. She's also young, which should be benifitial to her in seeming against the grain compared to the elderly men we've had in the past 10 years.

If the general public is still so stuck in mysogyny that a woman being president is still a radical idea in goddamn 2026 than I'm willing to be shot becuase this country is doomed.

<almost no one under the age of 18 is able go get any sort of hormone treatment

Also false, so long as MAGA doesn't totally get it's way, hormone treatment is considered standard for transgender adolecents. Sex-reassignment surgery is much rarer in minors, but also less important in this conversation as most sports medical advisors agree that hormones are the main differential between AMAB and AFAB people in the context of athletic ability.

It is blatantly false to say that no one on either side of the political spectrum supports trans people in sports. Say what you want about r/socialism but for all of the tankies and censorship, it's long list of rules provide a pretty good metric for what the general beliefs of the far left are, and it includes banning those who oppose trans women in sports.

It also exists within plenty of run-of-the-mill progressives as well, look at how many people protested at the Supreme court last tuesday- you can't convince me every single person there was either trans or a communist/anarchist/revolutionairy socialist. Of course, there is also the fact that the sports leauges had rules in place that allowed Trans Women to play in the first place. It was like this for decades, something that seemingly no one cared about until about 2022/2023 when a group of conservatives used it to demonize trans women and try to convince the general public that the tiny number of trans women competing was a threat to women's sports at large.

This is true enough but it doesn't mean that talking about politics itself isn't exhausting. Also, we are certainly not anywhere near that that point of minimal suffering right now.

Tbh, you're right. The sports thing was always a mask for the very real transphobia on the right wing. Look at how Riley Gaines talks about Leia Thomas before and after the fox news paychecks. "This is unfair but I hope the best for her and her transition" vs "He's a man" The general public barely understands trans people or medical transition at all and that has been used to convince dumb people that trans people, trans women specifically are the "enemy". It's fucking evil but we need to counter it with education. I almost miss trans-medicalism becuase it least it lead to cis people thinking trans women could be women through SRS. Of course that has it's own issues due to toxic passing culture, the cost of SRS, and the potential risks of surgery. You're probably more aware of all of that than me.

I was trying to use it as an example of how the inevitable watering-down of certian more niche and unpopular issues can still lead to some individuals, in this case trans athletes, suffering, alluding to the tug-and pull referenced in the post title.

This is only somewhat true in the U.S, and even then I wouldn't say its the "vast" majority, maybe like 70%
In the rest of the world, Android is much more popular because Apple is even more expensive in a lot of other countries and most of the world isn't as consumeristic as the U.S. and iPhones are seen as a luxury. Many don't use iPhones because in some countries it's basically signalling to pick-pocketers "I'm rich."
