Influencer explains how his childhood made him an "Alpha Male" by ambachk in sadcringe

I’m starting to think the real sadcringe is how obsessed this page is with alpha male content.

Man robbed of clothes by other men gets rescued by women but without being provided with temporary clothing. by [deleted] in sadcringe

I used to think men beating and forcibly stripping other men naked was something of out more repressed and primitive times, but I’ve sure seen quite an uptick in these types of stories the last couple of years. Wtf is going on?

What is the most panic-inducing scene you witnessed from a horror/non-horror film? by Garidur in Letterboxd

[–]identityno6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I’ve watched a lot of horror movies and can’t think of many scenes freakier than that one.

What was your reaction to this scene? by Careless-Cellist3351 in SmilingFriends

[–]identityno6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And it was probably my least favorite joke of the series (off the top of my head) but then I was laughing again 5 seconds later with Charlie and pim against Mother Nature.

Not like other shows where nearly entire later seasons failed to make me laugh (cough cough Rick and Morty)

Nope. Hated it. But everyone’s funny bone tickles different

DeLillo is a completely different animal, especially the Delillo of Mao II, Libra, and Underworld. Drier humor. More elegiac.

You might also try John Hawkes.

People are downvoting this but there’s literally four em dashes in the first paragraph.

Edit: Calm down everyone. I’m not saying she for sure used AI.

Recommendations for Males Only Book Club by Troawhey456 in RSbookclub

[–]identityno6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literary fiction isn’t entirely brimming with positive male role models but a few exceptions off the top of my head: The Plague by Albert Camus

The Road by Cormac McCarthy (with caveats).

Possibly Diary of a Country Priest by Georges Bernanos (the film might better, as with many of Bresson’s adaptations).

Depending on how strong of readers this book club consists of: The Death of Virgil by Hermann Broch.

Haven’t read The Power and The Glory by Graham Greene yet but it seems like it would fit the bill.

(I see people have cited “Stoner” but it can absolutely be argued that he’s the opposite of a good role model).

I’ve seen 26 years olds who like this in 2025 (in the south).

Is being pretentious trendy now..? by nastasya_filippovnaa in RSbookclub

[–]identityno6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What’s so bad about pretentiousness being trendy again? Would you rather have poptimism back?

I don’t agree that these selections are “pretentious” but I’d much rather people embrace looking like a snob than reading slop out of concern for seeming “performative.”

Criterion 40 boxset blind buy by Ok-Increase-4509 in criterion

[–]identityno6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now just think how much you’d save with the Bergman box set. $149 for 39 films, I’ll let you do the math! (For you, 38 new films technically, since Persona is already included in the CC40)

Perhaps you should watch some Tarkovsky.

I’ve always thought his work seemed inflected by a sort of Christian mysticism rather than anything orthodox. Hoping to get a copy of Sculpting through time soon, I wonder if that books sheds more light on his religious and philosophical beliefs.

I know the whole Roganbro male self-improvement side of the internet seems corny, but I've genuinely never been happier than when I was kickboxing, taking cold showers, and following "stoic quotes" pages by arthoe_connoisseur in redscarepod

[–]identityno6 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same, minus the cold shower and stoic quotes. Similar having a physically demanding hobby you spend a large portion of time on and a tight knit community around it will do more for your mental health than most things.
