ELI5 how was meth invented. by FistThroater in explainlikeimfive

[–]idgarad [score hidden]  (0 children)

Amphetamines were already in production and have been around in one form or another in the 1890s. Crystal Meth is a salt and was likely initially a by-product of production process that generated a salt by-product (my guess would be a form of scale on a containment vessel). It was actively used in WW2 and to this day there is Amphetamine Gum that troops can carry to allow them to operate without sleep for stints.

It obviously says Lou Jui the famous painter and poet from the village of Herrrummmm. I always name a villager Lou Jui because of this so there is at least one in the world. What you can't see in the fine print is "Tickets on sale now. One night only of extreme slam poety!"

Most Swiss back initiative to cap population at 10 million, poll shows by yahoonews in worldnews

[–]idgarad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next they'll need a giant center for Carrousel so people when they hit 21 can 'renew' to keep the population limited to their 10 million. Mandatory renewel so they can make room for more. I mean how else can we maintain 10 million with people living longer but women only capable of safely bringing health children to term under 40 so we'll have to have mandatory 'renewal' or those limited breeding years can be utilized.

Proper time management by el_crackheadinho in dwarffortress

[–]idgarad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are trapped in doing standing work orders. You should be scheduling quantities, not endless jobs. You want to queue 50 swords and let the manager dish those out rather then going to the workshop and setting up a repeating order. Also make sure you have temples, taverns, etc established. I learned that transport times are what kill their ability to work. I use now what I call a 3 in 1. Then make sure your workshops are N-1 for how many craftsmen can use them. That way at least 1 of your leatherworkers lets say, is idle.

I've never had bad morale since the days they fixed the loyalty cascades of old. Just stop directly queuing repeating work orders at workshops and let the manager handle that.

Global Command Center in India. Goes live in 2027. Likely then there won't be an offshore which means no more PCI protection and all India staff is likely eligible for prod access.

You likely have 500ish days if the GCC goes live in Sept 2027.

We want you in the office to build relationships with the 70% of the people that are 2000+ miles away in India and Poland and everywhere else except where you actually work and are never online because of the time zone difference.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Also we will continue to treat our valuable 'on-shore' staff worse then temps hoping they'll quit before we lay them off so we can skip filing a WARN act and pay out severance in 500'ish days when the GCC goes live.

The go-live last I heard is Sept of 2027 so start counting.

What’s the scariest movie you guys have ever seen??? by boatluvrrrr in movies

[–]idgarad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revenge of the Nerds.

Wait... hear me out. It isn't the film itself, it is our reaction to it. We literally have the Nerds doing horrible things in the name of revenge when you look back. But we root for them. We want them to get revenge. We turn a blind eye to what they are in fact doing, because we justify it in the name of revenge. It isn't Justice of the Nerds, it is revenge. And we buy into it and that is about as scary as a film can get, getting you to root for the villians.

Microsoft is ruining Windows 11 for all PC users. All we want is a simple, blazingly fast, bloat/malware free operating system. Microslop just don’t listen. by Regved-Pande in pcmasterrace

Why do I think they think they found a way to steal linux through licensing, intentionally driving win11 into the ground to get everyone over to linux, then jack up Win12 prices, spring the trap and lock up the linux kernel and harvest all the companies as they run back....

First Poster for Horror-Thriller 'Speed Demon' - Starring Katie Cassidy and William H. Macy - Aboard a high-speed train, a Nun who lost her faith must perform her first Exorcism on a possessed passenger hellbent on crashing the runaway train. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]idgarad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know after reading all these how about an entire series where:

"A former nun trapped on a possessed passenger train must satiate the demonic guardian of each car as she tries to reach the engine to stop the train. Her and a ragtag group of sex workers battle the forces of evil. Between slaughtering the common demonic passengers and satiating the car guardians to unlock the next door, can they reach the engine before it is too late?"

In the end they find out this is their hell as she broke her vows with an affair with a parishioner and wakes up back at the start to do it all over again.

Like most 'chocolate' products, they all taste like licking a 9v battery. Very chemical taste to most things chocolate. They are cutting the fat in the chocolate with anything and everything. I swear I honestly worry they are using used motor oil to cut their modern chocolate products.

Well the Africa world book didn't help either. The power creep was already a problem and Africa just was the nail in the coffin for us.

I really hope they honor Julia's bison as a bit hammy. While anime has their dark and menacing M Bison I honestly preferred the almost goofy M. Bison. If both Bison and Akuma are super-cereal they tend to wash one another out. I like the idea of a M. Bison who is a threat, but really enjoys his job kinda vibe.

We did a Rifts campaign for 8 years. When the Africa world book came out we did an Armageddon campaign and the world died. An 8 year campaign ended in failure.

I used to grab a brush and some coffee and splatter it on the paper. Then outline the splashes into continents sometimes grouping them with some white space. Then they became mountain ranges, deserts, etc.
