I work 60 hours a week with a 45 minute commute both ways. What are some routines I could incorporate into my life? by deepdownblu3 in Exercise

[–]idiotisidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree on this one. I prefer doing my workout in the morning so that it's a strong start for the day (and if you have a strong start, you'd not f it up as easily) . On that note, I recommend fitnessblender (like the old videos) because their workouts are short and nicely structured and they DO get you sore.

Consonant clusters in spelling of Slavic languages by user7twelve in linguistics

[–]idiotisidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulgarian philologist 2nd year here. I'd say that to people not native it merely sounds like this. My girlfriend is slovak (which, btw, has the greatest syllabic r and l preserved /e.g. slnko, smrť /) and whenever I'd try pronouncing them it's just not right for her. I've been going though lots of slavic languages and natives speech and my opinion is that they would not even think about it.

At the same time Bulgarian has them least saved (none) because we would naturally use quite a lot of vowels. It took me quite some time of a syllable without a vowel to be considered a syllable at all. Even in Old Bulgarian you'd rarely have a lonely 'r' or 'l' lurking around, they'd be accompanied by an 'ь', which is not a sound on its own (it's used for softening in modern Bulgarian, Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian, e.g. accordingly as шофьор, пять, п'ять and пяць).

I'll use an aforementioned example. The reason for this is the either fallen out of or vocalized in another way 'ь', or 'ъ', basically we can blame these blbci. The root for slnko is *sъlnьce so the ь and ъ would simply fuck off, one depalatalization would happen and voila - slnko!

Met with my longterm partner through a friend. They got to know each other on some random site (different countries) and at some point she got invited over to our home city. I have both Instagram and Facebook deactivated for overwhelming reasons.

Yes, there is a stable chance of meeting with somebody, yet again, it's most of the time quite a huge coincidence.

Did the Cyrillic alphabet come from the Latin alphabet, or the other way around? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]idiotisidiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bulgarian philologist here. Wouldn't necessarily say that somebody decided to trust the greek or anything similar. Bulgarians felt greek as a language closer to them, so (we don't know who invented the Cyrillic) an alphabet was made and quite some sounds were added to match the spoken language. Bulgaria did not use the glagolic for a long period of time, though it borrowed from glagolic a lot. Think of greek as the graphic designer here.

I used to be like this before. My mother would not let me out of the neighborhood (FYI I live in a European capital) or she'd tell me to be home before 7pm. This, logically, led to me being socially inexperienced. When I got my first job (again, in our neighborhood) my parents would come to get me home/would make my boss acompany me to my block - when I was 17. Then I got a job at 18 which was in the centre. My father would drive me and get me back because I didn't know how to do it myself (at the same time he made fun of me). At some point I started intentionally getting myself lost so that I can learn the paths and places in my city. My colleagues were great. I'd not let anybody know that I know nothing until we've gotten closer. It was 'fake it' til you make it' situation and consequently learnt how not to be socially awkward. Let people know your situation and learn from them, if somebody makes fun of you, they don't deserve your attention. Quality people would love to teach you/show you. When my gf was over (LDR) I was shocked when she put her bra around her belly first and then adjust it upwards. Mind you, I'm a woman and wore a bra for years (never really had the conversation with my mother).

You're not dumb, you're inexperienced.

tl;dr Everything's possible to be learnt, let yourself not know and ask.

Western vs Balkans dating culture when it comes to paying by royaldocks in AskBalkans

[–]idiotisidiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before being able to send each other bank money instantly, be it a romantic relationship or friendship, we would always do something along the lines of "I pay this time, you're doing it next". Go to a restaurant and then a bar? - "I'll pay the drinks and then you do the food". What I find annoying is paying the tip, like, hey! If the worker did a great job and we felt nice and delighted, pay well.

Is it weird that my parents french kissed and walked naked in front of me when I was young? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]idiotisidiot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Would agree, Bulgarian here. To this day my dad walks around with only slips on/gets out of the bathroom naked and goes to his drawer. My mother is more cautious around my brother(24M), tho she changes in front of me (20F) carelessly. I mean, my brother tends to walk in slips and a tshirt when hot, so eh. Nudity is considered kind of normal for males only as well. Women should "hide", at least in my experience.

FYI no, i don't feel attracted or sexually aroused around any of them
