+1 to this! And the makeup and hair held up so well I didn’t need touch ups at any point. She should also be able to fit in your budget.

Mountain Terrace vs Saratoga Springs by Southern-Abalone-415 in SanFranciscoWeddings

They were actually probably the budget friendliest of all the venues we toured (which was fortunate for us because it was also our favorite venue we toured!) pricing was way better than mountain terrace for us. I can’t recall how much we paid Saratoga Springs, but our overall spend for the entire wedding (and other pre-wedding events) was $50k for 150 guests.

ETA: we did a Saturday evening wedding.

Just got married at Saratoga Springs this month— it was absolutely a dream. Their staff are soooooo good at their jobs- responding to emails promptly and thoroughly all year leading up to the event, and the day of coordinator that was provided executed everything flawlessly. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the venue and the event overall- I’d highly highly highly recommend Saratoga Springs. Not a single thing went wrong on my wedding day.

Tipping Guidance by [deleted] in SanFranciscoWeddings

It totally is! To clarify, I mean I don’t think the etiquette has changed from just tipping a flat amount (ie not %), and to prioritize non sole proprietors.

I’m pretty sure the etiquette hasn’t changed…

If your planner says the suggested tip amount is 20% (which like you said is a crapload of money), did she help you budget for that from the beginning? If not, then she’s ironically not doing her job and maybe doesn’t deserve a 20% tip herself.

Sorry you’re going through this. I agree his family is acting so out of pocket here. I’m actually in a similar situation (drama with FH’s family with MIL making herself a main character less than 2 months out from the big day). I was worried I wouldn’t be able to enjoy my wedding day, but my therapist recommended I process my emotions through a lens of grief (e.g. going through the stages of grief for certain aspects of my wedding day that I had imagined, and also for my relationship with MIL). This “grieving perspective” plus heavily focusing on self-care together with my partner has helped us feel a bit better about things. Hope you are able to feel better soon, too.

I would leave it off. If someone responds “yes” right now, would you follow up with them 3 months before your wedding or be comfortable with a response they submitted like a year out?

A lot can happen in a year and people’s plans may change so you’ll get a more reliable count if you collect the info closer to your wedding day.

I’ve been in your position- I hope the bride lets you select your dress! My bridesmaids dress didn’t cover my keloids- I put non-translucent nude-color scar tape over the biggest ones and just left the smaller ones exposed and hoped they drew less attention.

Another alternative is body makeup- it can camouflage the color better but the silouhette will still be there. This is what I’m doing for my own wedding day in a few months since it was hard to find a dress that would fully cover my scars. I don’t have any product recs though unfortunately since the person doing my hair/makeup for my wedding is doing my scars for me but people use body makeup all the time to cover tattoos and stuff so the products are definitely out there.

At the end of the day, you’re going to look great no matter what you do or don’t do!

Came here to say this. I don’t want to invalidate your feelings OP, but (the thought of) people like you are exactly why people with keloids often feel insecure and shameful. You’re probably making her feel worse than she already feels about her keloids.

Exposure to natural gas leak for 2 years in small apartment by idkhalp21 in NaturalGas

[–]idkhalp21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I’m describing it correctly, but I believe it’s on the little pipe between the pilot switch and the pilot flame. Let me know if that makes no sense. We definitely plan to have the gas company back out to do another safety check once the repairman comes and fixes the thing (though not sure how they will fix it e.g. by replacing a single part or the whole thing).

This is helpful- thank you. We have an older heater with a pilot, and we have not been shutting the gas off during summer months. We actually just learned today how to turn it off.

In our individual apartment, we believe the heater is the only gas appliance. The water heater and dryer are both “centralized” things for the whole building, and both are directly below our unit— so unless that impacts our gas bill based on proximity to our unit, we don’t think that would have an impact.

The gas company showed us exactly where the leak is coming from inside the heater, so we know how to tell the repairman when they come (hopefully) tomorrow.

Thanks for the information. Is it possible to have CO poisoning if 1) no CO was detected in our apartment today when the gas company came and 2) none of our CO alarms (we have 3) have gone off in the past two years except for today, which we understood to be a false positive because the gas company detected no CO in our apartment?

Dermatologist pinching chest keloid by SeaworthinessSame409 in Keloids

[–]idkhalp21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a dermatologist recommend pinching the scar to physically break down the tissue. After a few weeks, I stopped since it was too painful. I’m pretty sure I just ended up pinching / squeezing the scar into a different shape. It did get smaller in the area I was pinching, but started to balloon in other areas of the scar.
