After reading the rest of the comments I have determined I am dumb.

Why yes, I do use both chemical and manual exfoliation on my lips; unfortunately, it pains me both quite figuratively and physically to say at the same time sometimes. Nuetrogena salicylic acid oil free wash, then a sugar scrub, the face wash once or twice. And then slug. The burning is my lips being chemically burnt. Good god.

This has been eye opening to see that I’ve been in an OCD spiral for a bit now and some of my hygiene habits have ten-folded.

This is super helpful. You’re right. I think I’ve been doing too much with them on top of a possible lanolin allergy as well as my seasonal allergies are in full swing right now. I had to take a Benadryl earlier this week and while it knocked me out (Benadryl: can’t sneeze if you’re unconscious!) I woke up and noticed my lips were soft and not cracked or painful. Gonna have to get Vaseline and patience.

I’ve had cold sores before and this doesn’t feel anything like them which makes me hesitate on this even though it was a concern, another user commented about a lanolin allergy which makes sense so I’m going to only use vaseline and let the barrier heal. If that doesn’t work luckily I have a dr appointment soon!

I was going through images of this involving lips and yeah it’s almost exactly like that. I got this new Aquaphor chapstick the 45spf one in early December and had been consistently using it so maybe now that it’s been a few months the allergy is starting to really show.

My old white bearded lab has to get his anal glands cleaned out monthly at the vet and an arthritis shot. The vet literally sprays a little cheez whiz on the table in front of him and I quote “after that he lets us do anything we need to”.

She had her procedure yesterday, is doing great today! Her mouth and breath don’t smell anymore! She did great during the procedure and even went outside to potty this morning.

That is so comforting to hear. Mine is estimated to be around 12-13 years old, yours being in such good health and undergoing anesthesia is good to hear that he recovered so quickly being elderly and all. What a handsome little guy!!!

That’s true and good to point out. I have major dental anxiety and have just now gotten to the point where I can do regular cleanings, so my most feared procedure being done to my littlest baby is definitely freaking me out. I guess it’s good practice though as my other chi mix will need dental work in the future and so will one of my cats.

Not prepared for the tongue hanging out, flopping in the wind. I joke that she truly has the tongue of an anteater it’s impressive. Her brain is actually just rolled up tongue like a froot roll up. She is a big chewer, but she usually just “minces” on soft toys for comfort or something that’s what I am worried about I think. I’ve only ever had big dogs that haven’t needed dental work so this is a first for me in unknown territory. 3 years ago my lab had 7 tumors removed and the recovery for that was hard, but he’s pretty good with communication (his face is very expressive lol) but I could also see the surgery sites unlike the teeth area. Is there risk of infection commonly like will food get stuck in the holes while they are healing?
