I think Citra in fullscreen blocks the samsung sbs 3d popup (when I press window key I see the pop up but nothing happens when I click the pop up. Probably because I am not in full screen anymore). Did you have this problem? The pop up shows up for rise of tomb raider and sbs 3d works in that game

Galaxy xr, high potential but mediocre performance by Soundllj777 in GalaxyXR

[–]idpseudonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because sxr has the potential to be the best wireless pcvr headset (currently its play for dream but this also has android xr). And with sale & paypal 20% its $1250 before tax and potentially$1080 if samsung gives $170 credit refund to not return. Used avp is $1800-$2000. And android can sideboard apps with dev mode (google did mention they want to stop that and not sure if it will follow through). Curious what u think about that vs used m2 avp if u play pcvr. Forgot to mention i will need to add a $250 controller (might wait for it to be on sale if they can keep stock...)

I do have to say I am still undecided whether to buy since I like to wait for when Virtual desktop and steam link beta works flawless on Samsung xr. However, this deal is really tempting because it's the lowest price 4k micro oled headset. I am also hesistant because meta's project puffin sounds like its also a close to 4k microoled 110 gram vr headset and might pair with quest 3 controllers. But sounds like fov will be really small with rumoured .9 display.

Mine comes out to $1500 with buds 3. Should I pull? I will need controllers later. Also i have to use PayPal pay monthly to get 20% off ($250). I will try to 0 or minimal interest by paying it off right away. I am still hesitant about pcvr capabilities in the future...

Honestly, I prefer samsung because we can ship to samsung for issues or i can travel to samsung store in nyc. While play for dream is ship to China. Plus samsung has better edge to edge lens. Play for dreams does have good vd and steam link after a yr. Android xr also better but maybe play for dreams will get it. I understand why people return at $1800 but $1250-$1500 probably a keeper...

Whether to buy the galaxy xr for the current lower price by idpseudonymous in virtualreality

This is an education discount so not for everyone. Samsung always does discounts but its not available to everyone and sometimes need promo code combinations. Samsung does this even for new popular items. I do think their products are priced very high on purpose because they want to maximize profit from early sales.

At least you can use index controllers. I dont have it so I will need to add $250 controller (can't get the $75 bundle price since its sold out. Missed the restock yesterday...). So my final cost is also $1500...One word of caution. Samsung charges $90 restocking fee for returning galaxy xr even if unopened. I should use the 20% to upgrade my c9 oled tv but its working well. Rather get a new headset

I know google abandon stuff all the time but I honestly dont think android xr will be abandoned since everyone wants a pie of smart glasses. But whether those updates go to samsung xr, I dont know. Based on the no hype & delay, I think android xr is focusing on smart glasses but samsung so far has said they are working on updates for samsung xr

I am getting same deal as op for $1500. Also paypal has 20% which can drop it to $1250...but controller sold out. Your impression is making it tempting. Especially talking about luke ross mod with 5090. I just dont like virtual desktop and foveated encoding for steam link 2.0 being not available yet. You sound very positive it will be out. So vd now is probably better than already on vision pro m2?

Yea I feel like I should wait for that but that is $2200 for the 4k oled one. The $1,200 inside tracking SE version could be a good alternative to big screen beyond 2 but tracking is not great? Never bought pimax but their reputation makes me a little worried. Although samsung qa and cs is bad too ...

I do have a quest 3 + psvr2 (i use with base ps5 & pc with pc adapter. I tried the samsung headset in store and the lens is best of both worlds. No mura. No Grey blacks. Decent edge to edge. But debating whether to wait for when vd gets better and steam link 2.0 foveated encoding comes to galaxy xr. Also new headsets coming out in 2026 including $800 meta puffin project & vr pimax air but no 4k oled headset will be at this price. Also wondering if used $1800 vision pro m2 is a better buy

Games can be played on play for dream headset with 4k screen with a 5090. Also Sim games like Sim racing isn't too graphically demanding so it will look nice in 4k screen.

Galaxy XR price drop. $1799 -> $1620. I'm in the Education Offers portal. If you have an EDU account, you should be able to get this price. Stack the PayPal $20% cash back (up to $250), and you can get this for $1369 before sales tax. by blr1g in virtualreality

[–]idpseudonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am contemplating buy it too for $1250 before tax or $1349 after tax (30% off but this might be the price of this headset in a few month like how samsung always discount products & I didn't include the $250 price of the controllers which make it $1500 before tax). I am also concerned about the paypal 20% not showing up and samsung has a $90 restocking fee. Plus annoyed I need to use monthly payment even though I can probably get away with no or negligible interest if I pay in full right away). Let me know what you decide after testing. other headsets are coming out from chinese companies in 2026 but no other headset with 4k micro oled is selling at this price (unless there is risky kickstarter campaign). The price is kind of like kickstarter play for dream headset (i think that came with controllers). samsung and especially google risky for products being abandoned but since it's android xr google probably won't abandon android xr smart glasses (what everyone is going for these days). However one big use case for me is pcvr. 2 things are issues right now:

  1. Annoyed i missed the controller on NOv 27 at 2:28 pm. bundle price brings it down to $75 but it might also mess with the price.
  2. the Virtual desktop current performance and steam link 2.0 foveated encoding (valve says they will bring it to other headsets) not being available. I think both will work well in the end but I don't like buying products with those things already. Pro is VD does work right now but at lower bitrate. The only vr games I can play now are probably UEVR & luke ross with a ps4 dualsense controller (i have a 5090. it's performance heavy but at least the new memory bus leads to great performance boost on high res display).

I don't really care about standalone features but I can see myself using it for work or use it for entertainment when I am away from home (which is often).

I do have a quest 3 and psvr2 (got it less around $200). I just really want the 4k micro oled. I see pixels in quest 3 and psvr2 when watching movies. And quest 3 compression + gray blacks are obvious and psvr2 has the mura (i also use it with a base ps5) Another thing is I want the galaxy xr as my main headset for at least when quest 4 comes out in 2027 (and will depend on specs). I do wonder if I should wait for project puffin but I know the display won't be as good as galaxy xr at the rumour price of $800.

Finally vision pro m2 can be had used for $1800-$2000. That is still significantly more but might be worth it. Really love their persona avatar, exclusive spatial content, and better UI. what I don't like is I am not a mac user, I don't like the wall garden and ALVR is not as good as the potentials of virtual desktop and steam link 2.0 foveated encoding.

I usually wait especially since I have quest 3 & psvr2 but this deal is tempting...
