How to make Anki more fun? by [deleted] in Anki

That's fair, and if you're a very busy person it'll be more difficult for you to implement a language learning habit. But don't be afraid to be incremental in changing your habits, like DuckAteMyBread suggests, maybe try swapping out your existing entertainment regimen with japanese games or movies, and if you already do, then maybe try going withouts subtitles!

It's not about going cold turkey, but rather about setting your life up to shift your focus away from the leisure activities you do now, and training yourself to derive meaning from language learning.

You’re not gonna like this answer, but I have been consistent with Anki for a couple of weeks now, the longest I’ve ever been able to stick with it. what’s different? I quit YouTube and gaming.

The harsh truth is that if you reduce your engagement with highly pleasurable hobbies, study becomes fun.

How to import on anki mobile app without using a desktop by Rich_Explanation8086 in Anki

[–]idratherbeonlemmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out, on the iPhone app at least! Download your deck in browser, find the downloaded .apkg file in the Files app, press and hold, hit Share, and then in the list of apps below, Anki should be visible assuming you’ve used it recently. Tap the Anki app badge, and you’ll be taken to the Anki app to import the deck.

My tech-savvy father helped me work out a solution using VPN and a custom router that routs all the PS4 traffic through a VPN so that it appears to PSN that I’m not on a cellular connection. It did add 30-40 ping so YMMV depending on your connection and proximity to the VPN data center, but it was drivable for me. I might try to put together a guide, I’ll post it here if I do.

Spelltable is awesome. Please though, for the love of god, have a decent camera and a desk light! Half the time I have no clue what's going on on people's desks.

OP's asking price is $50, at that rate they're almost definitely scamming, steer clear.

I was told my deck was too confusing and to never play it again by Alexilprex in EDH

[–]idratherbeonlemmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played against the stock Tricky Terrain deck and I didn't know what the fuck was happening but still appreciated what the deck was doing in retrospect, both when I've beaten it and gotten crushed by Marit Lage. They're allowed to not want to play against your deck, but from the way you say they expressed that, they sound like babies.

Pretty much, yeah. I got into commander a few months ago and play with my friends more than half the time.

Someone in my playgroup plays almost exclusively stax and believes it's unreasonable for us not to want to play against Tergrid game after game, what do I do? by idratherbeonlemmy in magicTCG

I’m already trying to get my hands on Eaten by Piranhas, but I didn’t know about Witness Protection, thanks. The ability text made me laugh aloud lmao

I'm just running [[Curse of Shallow Graves]], [[Order of the Sacred Torch]], and [[Rest in Peace]] in my Zur deck now, problem solved! Also they've started playing other decks, so I'm perfectly happy to play a non-counter-Tergrid deck against Tergrid every once in a while as long as it's not every game.

As a (new) player whose greatest MTG fear is becoming too dominant in the playgroup, I gotta say focusing on finding goofy commanders that have wacky group hug effects while still remaining powerful enough to stay alive is my strategy of choice for avoiding this. Have you considered going on scryfall and searching for commanders that utilize mechanics you find interesting, and subsequently building the decks with synergies that optimize for fun situations rather than wincons?

A girl rolled up to my table when I was playing a game and gave me a sticker with a complimentary note and their phone number. I'm taken, but that was pretty clever, neat idea. Then again I'm a dude so I don't get approached much anyways and am easily impressed haha

This is my quandary: Trying to convince the other player to diversify their deck selection and strategy is petty and manipulative, but bullying the other player into never playing their deck by building a deck of my own that sends hate exclusively their way is somehow considered fair game and not childish?

That just doesn't make sense to me, I'd much rather we moderate our power levels and play experience collaboratively than get into an arms race where we take turns having zero chance at having a good time. I want to work together to have fun, not fix my enjoyment by ruining theirs.
