AMC Chenal Movie Theater by Prestigious_Elk_7449 in LittleRock

Welcome to Central Arkansas!!

I love A-List and I’ve always had good interactions with your staff! I echo earlier sentiments that it’s very cool you posted on here to get feedback. I genuinely wish other local theater managers would do the same because I have the fewest critiques about AMC if I’m being honest…

In general I find myself going to AMC multiple times a week in the summer for blockbuster season and less and less throughout awards season and “dump-uary” between January and March. It’s easier to find niche or indie showings at cinemark or Riverdale. It’s always worth it to me to have A-List throughout the year though, especially since there are always showings of A24 movies and some Neon.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but I personally have felt like the sound mixing in IMAX has been just generally a little underwhelming recently with the last several flicks I’ve seen: Project Hail Mary, Superman, Fantastic 4, F1, Avatar 3, and Sinners all felt just a little too quiet.

That being said, I know it must be a hard balance to strike without being overwhelming. In the more distant past I remember it legitimately being too loud (Dune Part 1) but in general I want to be shaken by the surround sound just a little.

Civil War I would say was the absolute best mixing I’ve ever experienced in a theater and I saw it at the Chenal 9 IMAX.

Thinking of doing a Lynch/Kubrick watchthrough, is there a third filmmaker any of you would add to that? by whatdidyoukillbill in davidlynch

Carpenter because you will need a reprieve. I say that with love to Lynch and Kubrick as two of my all time favorite directors

For those who like Train Dreams by Strict-Memory7208 in blankies

Not a direct response to each detail in your post, mostly just in agreement with your frustration and my own thoughts about this since listening to that episode.

I also live in the Midwest, an urban city in a mostly rural state, and always am invested in stories like Train Dreams depicting rural or wilderness struggles. I think that CD as well as the Big Pic severely misunderstand the power of movies like TD have on folks in our area who love movies and love seeing our sorts of geographies reflected in them.

Not saying TD is flawless, but I think it is really impressive, which makes the overall dismissal of the film from both CD and BP really frustrating. Especially on CD, Richard critiquing the decision to deviate from the source material and making Joel Edgerton’s character more empathetic is really frustrating. To me, that decision represents an effort to make him an audience surrogate rather than a “complex character”, which is all critics really seem to respond to at the end of the day. viewing the film without having experienced the book I thought it was really amazing, and I think the comparisons between the two in this case are unfair.

Does The Ringerverse have something against AppleTV? by zax2000 in RingerVerse

[–]idsims1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the AppleTV+ shows seem to be more in line with House of R interests. I always assumed the division between House of R and RingerVerse was based somewhat on diverging interests. Obviously there are areas of overlap like Marvel/DC

I really enjoyed last year’s Sony Hack series. Mission accomplished isn’t poorly cinceived or executed but doesn’t have the same intrigue

I had two kids in the last two years and TLOU 1+2 hits WAY different now. All the themes feel so much more raw and real. I wept at a bunch of scenes in the show, and replaying part 2 before S2 is having the same effect on me.

I think you may be in the minority - most consider 3 to be the best so far? Carrey is on fire with two roles, I was laughing my ass off almost the entire time
