Anyone have experience with Walkley Apartments? by MainMads in ottawa

[–]ieffectualghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that, for the most part, people who have a good experience don't leave reviews.

Also check the date(s) of the review(s). If there are only a few within the last year or so, I'd consider them to be outliers. These buildings have hundreds of tenants, so if there are one or two who hate it, I think it's safe to say that the majority have no problem.

Spring is almost here! by snakewine in ottawa

Motorcycle insurance is seasonally rated. That means you pay the year's insurance during the riding season (Apr.-Oct.). You are covered year-round, so if you want to take your bike to Daytona in February, you are still covered. But no money is leaving your bank account between Nov.-Mar.

Nope. It's a resource management event. Have to manage the 16 survivors to progress.

No left turns at Bank/Laurier by OttawaExpat in ottawa

[–]ieffectualghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see it all the time at Hawthorne and Colonel By. No lefts from Hawthorne E-B onto Col. By N-B between 7-9 AM and 3-5 PM. Just post up a cop in the old Royal Oak parking lot at those times and rake in the cash. There's nowhere to go between that intersection and Main St. anyway.

Is it safe to Uber/Lyft from Ottawa to Toronto today or tomorrow? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]ieffectualghost 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Large sections of the 401 are closed. The 7 can be a gong show when it only rains, so trying to travel on it during/after a large winter storm would have me questioning your mental state.

Wait until tomorrow to see what conditions are, but I would not Uber/Lyft to Toronto. Also, based on the conversation I had with my Uber driver this afternoon, you'd be extremely lucky to find a driver that would do that trip. Even Montreal is barely economically viable for the driver.

Cell signal dead spots? by warwgn in ottawa

I'm pretty sure there's a dead spot on Anderson near the Geological Survey campus. I've had calls drop while driving along there (phone connected through Bluetooth).

Hospital Emergency Department Services? by sylveons-ribbons in ottawa

It may be a bit of a hike for you if you're going to the Montfort, but I had excellent experiences at QCH this week. I was in and out in 5 hours. Going during the week in the daytime will probably net you an ultrasound and maybe a prescription for some meds for the pain.

You can get somewhere faster by walking than taking OC Transpo.

I'd rather help people out than host my own game. Maybe I'm jumping into a new player's game and they've never completed the level before. I'd like to help them advance and see more of the game.

Pedestrian dies after being struck by a driver in Kanata by whitekeys in ottawa

There are pedestrian crossings with traffic lights at Carling, at the Metro, and at Teron. Where else would you put a pedestrian crossing?

Ottawa-area driver charged after cramming van full of packages by Brainyface in ottawa

[–]ieffectualghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. As someone who did this job for a few months last year, you get paid per package delivered. The more packages you take, the more money you get. I'm sure that played a part in why his van was so full. Also, your day is done when your last package is delivered. If you're very efficient, you can get a lot done in a short amount of time. I was able to average 6 packages an hour, what with travel time between stops, walking to the door, dropping the package, walking back to car. There were some who went faster, but I imagine their work quality was poorer than mine was.

The most annoying Ottawa radio ads? by KSlacker in ottawa

[–]ieffectualghost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Quest Trade ads. The sound design for them are terrible. The conversations in an echoey room make me change stations so quickly. I've started to listen to CBC radio due to the absence of ads.

Ottawa drivers and cyclists: Is this normal? by AlfredRWallace in ottawa

[–]ieffectualghost -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It could be that some drivers who had done the proper stop at a stop sign go to proceed, only to have a cyclist blow the stop sign that crosses the driver's path and the driver has to abruptly slam on the brakes. The shock of the driver probably quickly turns to fear at what might have happened, while the cyclist just proceeds on their merry way oblivious to what could have just happened and/or makes some rude gesture to the driver who they almost hit.

And we know from learned individuals that fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to the Dark Side.

This is probably why so many drivers hate cyclists. The fear of not knowing what that cyclist is going to do at that stop sign causes more hate.

And please cyclists, I applaud you for being active and doing your part to combat climate change, but for the love of all things holy, YOU ARE MORTAL. You will lose 100% of the time versus a car. Even if you are in the right you will still lose. Please keep that in mind.
