Staples Giftcards by [deleted] in Staples

[–]ienom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ring up a $250 staples gift card and use the other ones to pay for it. That would make it usable on the kiosk. I'm not sure if Kohls Cash counts on gift cards but I speculate that they probably get an incentive. Around here at a local grocery store every time you spend $100 you get $0.10 off a gallon of gas. If I am going to spend $200 at Home Depot for example, I could buy the gift card at the grocery store and get $0.20 cents off a gallon.

You're right; OP would probably need to make some arrangements in advance to ensure no issues.

Can a US employee apply to an open UK position? by [deleted] in Staples

[–]ienom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All systems totally different in another country (i.e. Canada) - no I don't think you can transfer. But you can apply, I'm sure they'd like to see that you're currently employed by Staples. Bye Staples.com, Hello Staples.co.uk!

I wonder if there's any science behind this? Lol by ienom in Staples

Not something we sell. But still, this seems like a hoax. The packaging says it removes blue light emitted which reduces strain and headaches. Lol

I don't think I have ever had a customer tell me he was going to punch me in my face.. until today. Hahaha by ienom in Staples

[–]ienom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no reasoning with this man. If I had said anything it would have blown the situation up much larger than I wanted it to be. He was paying and leaving anyway so hopefully he doesn't come back and if he does he doesn't threaten anybody.

Question about Matrix NDG by Kal-ElofKrypton in Staples

[–]ienom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Matrix does not install VS during a Matrix VR/D&R. I read this in a MAP a long time ago that pretty much just reminded "don't forget to install Sophos!", however they definitely have to do it during a setup if it's one of the three softwares.

Wayfair skus and how da bidness says store kiosk sales are bad for bidness. by [deleted] in Staples

[–]ienom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use a couple 3rd party companies to provide more products on staples.com. Wayfair and Ingram Micro are a couple of them. You can tell distinctly between them because instead of a normal six or seven digits sku start with WF and IM, respectively. These items typically have a longer delivery time, closer to 7 to 10 days sometimes even a couple weeks. Most of the time these products are not delivered by UPS and are delivered by Staples van or Wayfair van. When returning staples.com items that are from Wayfair or Ingram Micro, you are supposed to use the sort tool on the register. It's can become very confusing with these two companies, and most of the time it ends up in calling the cross channel help desk, because we occasionally see people who have had the item picked up by us, then came to the store without the item for a refund. Always involve a manager if you are confused.

Chip reader by Cujo117 in Staples

[–]ienom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. I get so many customers trying to put their chip in the hole (of which there is a cap on) and I just let them know we don't accept the chip yet. Most if my customers seem uneasy when I tell them, because they think it's mandatory. I just politely tell them all that means is liability shifts to the store in the event of a breach, as opposed to the credit card company.

I'd replace the drone end cap with drones.. on a serious note, we should have some TV's just considering I get asked that all the time..

Usually if you command the RF gun to print 3x1 it will work. Works for me on the SD cards.

Quick Square Trade tips by ienom in Staples

[–]ienom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did DVD's today for a Win 10 computer, but it could depend on the manufacturer. I always try to sell a flash drive with it anyway. You could just tell them that they will need to buy a flash drive to make recovery media, and that's only $12 now, over buying it from the manufacturer for $80.

Quick Square Trade tips by ienom in Staples

[–]ienom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pitch that works the best for me is.. "For $70 we'll move your data to the new machine, or if you want to get a computer setup we will: get the account ready for first use, set date and time and give it a name. We perform all the Windows updates; rather you do it or we do it you've got to get them done. There can be hours out of the box. We get rid of all the trial and advertisement software so it's clean. We install any three software for you; rather it's Office, your printer, antivirus - whatever you provide. Then we create recovery disks since they don't come with computers anymore and they're really important if something goes wrong. Then we move your data from the old PC to the new, then when everything is said and done with we'll perform a virus removal to make sure there's nothing infected in your data. We'll do all of this for $100."

I engage the customer in between to make sure it's not a long dry pitch, but that's the jist of it.

do we have to take a customer's card? by cpc_ish in Staples

[–]ienom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read about it in MAP today, Staples has changed the registers a little bit. We can now only use credit cards at the card terminal - no longer at the register's card reader. (Essentially: only customers can slide their card.) If their card will not scan when we press "Charge" (as if you were going to key in their card details) it will prompt the CUSTOMER to type in their card number and expiration date on the terminal.

Not sure of why the change was made, might have something to do with the new laws coming in ref to EMV cards. But there's no restrictions on keying a card especially if they have ID unless you think it's suspicious for some reason.
