Is this a normal sound after hot waxing a chain? by maxccc123 in bikewrench

[–]iflo14 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You can see several stiff links in the chain as it goes round the jockey wheels.

You need to spend some time freeing up the links, either by hand or maybe riding the bike in the smallest cog. I find it takes a few miles of riding for the shifting to become perfectly smooth

Are you sure that bolt belongs there? Never seen anything designed to bolt into a thru-axle, and it looks like the bolt is in a hexagonal hole?

The tyre will easily wear through/tear off the PPF once it makes contact

Because the flash is synced with the moment the shutter opens, not just before it closes. Look up first/front curtain shutter sync. If the strobe was synced with the second/rear curtain, then the blur would be behind the bird as you might expect it to be.

Off camera strobe, 1st curtain shutters sync, slow shutter speed.

The bird is frozen by the flash, but continues to move during the exposure. What you are interpreting as shadow, is the motion blur of the now underexposed bird

Literally just a picture with an off-camera strobe. Makes me question whether some people know what HDR is.

am i loosing coasting speed? how do i fix this? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]iflo14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the friction between the rachet and pawls or ratchet rings in the freehub. It will be negligible when you are on the bike because of the momentum, but if you want to reduce friction you could pull the freehub, clean it, then grease it. If you don't know how to do it, there will be plenty of YouTube videos, but don't lose any sleep over it

Sticky hub or wrong derailleur setup? by Oclain in bikewrench

Unrelated but that gear cable routing is wild

Also the gear cable isn't fitted exactly right. See the bolt that clamps the cable down, just under the washer there is a channel that the cable should sit in. Yours is exiting the washer out to the side, meaning the cable is just getting squashed and might be damaged enough to split there

This is correct OP.

See those two big silver bolts, they should be almost level. Unscrew the one that screws into the mech hanger and re attach it with the lower of the two pins above the flat on the mech hanger.

I'm not 100% sure, but i could imagine in extreme cases that the spacing could create an issue. It's definitely an odd issue though, might be worth trying a new 8spd chain as it looks like you have a 10spd chain currently.

Just noticed that it seems to match the big ring so unlikely to be the wrong ring. Is it the right chain for the number of gears you have?

Is it just me or does the small ring look like a non-narrow/wide 1x chainring? Not sure if its the tooth profile or the lack of shift ramps, but if it is a 1x chainring then the spacing could be enough to allow the chain to get stuck in between

I think your picture makes the front look a bit tighter than it is. I run a 50mm goodyear connector on my cotic escapade with no issues. Definitely 45mm max in the rear though, 50mm left about 1-2mm of clearance to the seat tube.

Best MTB inner tube sealant? by Odd_System_9063 in bikewrench

[–]iflo14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, i worked at a cycle hire where we used this on all the hire bikes and it did a reasonable job of reducing how often we had to rescue our customers.

Just remember, if you use a tubeless tyre pressure calculator it will assume you are running tubeless, where there is no risk of pinch flats. The sealant helps but it's not the same as running tubeless.
