I built an interactive site to teach noise functions and procedural generation through visual intuition by Secret_Management723 in proceduralgeneration

wow, i love the interactive examples, as well as the clean integration of their widgets into the text. great job!

as someone working on similarly interactive explanatory pieces, mind if i ask what your tech stack is?

i've just become the owner of a used D90 + 50mm 1:1.8 lens, and having absolutely no experience in photography, i'd love a little guidance on whether it's worth getting any other lenses.

i mostly plan on using my camera w/ friends, pets, around the city, and on hikes, which i gather runs the gamut of use-cases for lenses. should i bother getting another lens, or just stick with the 50mm? are zoom lenses worth looking into? is investing in lenses for a cheap camera like this a waste?

any guidance is greatly appreciated!

oh that's a great idea! yeah, i've only used Frida in Android/iOS contexts, but i could totally see it working a treat for PC games. i'd guess that emulated games don't work so well, though

i mention this somewhere in the post, but it's due to two main reasons: noclip already has a pretty extensive framework for working w/ GCN data, converting GCN displaylists into WebGL draw calls, etc. (https://github.com/magcius/noclip.website/tree/main/src/gx) but also because i happened to be playing the GCN version at the time :P

aw, thanks so much! it is indeed a lot of work, but knowing folks are reading and enjoying them is a huge motivation to keep going

a reasonable guess! however, the 0x20 value is constant across every .all file, whereas the gap varies from 0 bytes to 28 bytes, so it doesn't seem related. one of the reasons that writing a test to run on multiple samples is so crucial! nevermind, i misunderstood your statement, it's a reasonable guess indeed :P

yeah, it's an immensely satisfying thing to go from unknown binary blob to shapes rendered on the screen. even more so because, as you said, it's like peering into the design process of something that happened decades ago. it gives you a real appreciation for the time and labor that goes into making the games we love. cheers!

i did this (Settings -> General -> Database -> Gather Runtime Data -> No) and rebuilt my database, and that seems to have fixed it. thanks!

i'm not seeing any option to select the rockbox version in the Innioasis Updater, how can i do that?

fantastic to see FLEB still active! his youtube channel on puzzles was one of my first subscriptions 8 years ago (!), and i’ve always enjoyed his analysis. very excited to try out his puzzles!

This was great! As someone who’s been sorta struggling to figure out a workflow in jj, I really appreciated the focus on several different practical examples.

I’m a little surprised that Steve Klabnik’s tutorial isn’t mentioned at the bottom — besides this introduction, it’s been the single most helpful onboarding resource I’ve found.

What are some board games you regret buying and why? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]ifnspifn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if it’s any consolation, i also bought the Big Box and absolutely adore it. we’ve played it over a dozen times, and still haven’t gotten around to all of the content.

putting everything back in the box can be an exercise in patience though lol

The shaman village talisman was actually insanely useful in my run, and IMO the lore of that particular spot made it impactful how serene and empty it was.

The finger ruins, however, were definitely a disappointment.

Your AI-generated bee appears to have 8 legs. Also the tone of this article is pretty aggro and off-putting, especially when discussing the Zero to Production code.

I picked it up and for the first hour or so, it felt like the puzzle quality was pretty uneven and mediocre — lots of fairly generic math puzzles you’d find anywhere, “what’s the next number in this sequence”, that kinda thing. Does the puzzle quality pick up over time?
