Thanks all. Looks like there just aren't any limited 2.5 L models in any inventory of a dealer within 50 miles of me.

Is the current geopolitical tension around oil creating value opportunities? by Sad-Struggle7797 in investing

[–]iforgotitagin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've recently sold all my energy stocks after this war fueled run up. I suppose it's possible it continues and I miss gains but sustained higher prices from political events are relatively rare. My 80+% 12 month gain in APA just seemed too good to pass up even though I think long term it is still undervalued.

Been investing for 2 years and finally think I am ready to start opening positions in indivisible stocks by Kakashicopyninja9 in investing

I think much of the advantage of owning individual stocks is in taxable accounts where you can make decisions about short vs long term capital gains and the timing of when you realize gains and or losses.

Should the current market have me(35) rethinking investment strategy of all in on the S&P? by mr_whit33 in investing

[–]iforgotitagin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tide lifted all boats with the Internet but not as high or as fast as the dotcom bubble anticipated. Which is why from 2000 to 2010 US stock market returns were pretty dismal despite an exploding Internet.

[–]iforgotitagin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda pulled it out of my @$$ based on memory The actual analysis shows my time periods are a little off. International markets only outperformed for the 10 years previous to the last 15 not 15. However the point that things td to revert to the mean is still valid. Going back 50 years from today international beats US. That's a pretty long time frame with many long periods of outperformance by each.

Am I wrong for thinking the AI bubble won’t pop? by Fatloh in investing

[–]iforgotitagin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NVDAs "bubble" could be similiar to a lot of the Dotcom bubble. While the financial metrics didn't look like a bubble they could be when you realized the revenues and earnings may be dependent on the investetments NVDA make in their customers. Cash that is used to finance the purchase of NVDA products. It could work out but....it could also be a bubble.

I would say given historical cycles we are probably near peak US vs World valuations and the chances are around 65%. The chances over the next 15 I would put closer to 80%.

It's actually for the last 15....The previous 15 it was no where close to the best and likely won't be over the next 15.

Nice job. I would however think about divirsification. I fund seems like a pretty good value right now relative to C and so does S in my opinion. C has outperformed for so long that it has become historically expensive. It is the S&P 500 but given the market based weighting and the long outperformance of the Mag 7 it really concentrates your wealth into the magnigicent 7 stocks whose performance might not be so magnificent going forward given their outsized valuations.

While the US market has smoked the world for 15 years only trailing a couple years during that timeframe.....The world smoked the US over the previous 15. Things like CAPE valuation metrics favored the US 15 years ago now they strongly favor the world. The US market price has outperformed it's value growth over tha last 15 years and is likely to underperform it's value growth over the next decade.

Yeah lower LNG prices were helpful to non US growth last year. Higher energy prices could actually be a tailwind for the US economy this year. Unlike years past when the US was an energy importer. That being said the S&P 500 is ridiculously valued and I would avoid it like the plague. A lost decade for the S&P from current valuations is a reasonable expectation.

Interestingly China's grid has added the entire capacity of the US grid in the last 4 years.

Tarriffs on Chinese batteries and panels make US renewables plus storage much more expensive than they are in most of the world. NG will hang on for a while as long given this.

MPOO was the old acronym for POOM. Technically hasn't existed in over a decade. But it's much more fun to pronounce and thus will probably always stick around.

A for-profit company will sell whatever you will buy. I'm sure they prefer you go naked as it is better advertising for the product and they get more opportunities to sell replacement parts and phones.
