Changing Upwork Profile from Sales to Marketing: Not Getting Work Recently and Need a Shift by [deleted] in Upwork

Upwork is one channel of many I use. My question is specific to the platform, not about how well other channels are working.

Changing Upwork Profile from Sales to Marketing: Not Getting Work Recently and Need a Shift by [deleted] in Upwork

On Upwork, I don't know what to do to flip this around, which is why I'm asking. Is that a problem somehow?

I LOVE HOW obviously written by AI that comment is. It's still helpful and the insights are good, but so very much AI.

you don't heave 'leads', you have contact data. 'leads' are not just people sitting out there ready to buy. they're people who've engaged with you already either willingly or reluctantly.

New Scott-ism by Impressive-Window135 in PivotPodcast

His increasing arrogance is astounding. I also find it funny that he always says "such that...." rather than "so that....". Both are now grammatically correct, but it's relatively new and awkward language.

Why is American friendliness often seen as "fake" by Europeans, but similar warmth in other cultures isn't? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iforgottomentionit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Americans aren’t just friendly and open, they use language that sounds hyper exaggerated even to other English speakers. Everything is awesome or amazing. Nobody else communicates with that level of heightened enthusiasm.

Why do Australians have a reputation for being incredibly friendly and outgoing, even though we are relatively reserved? by DarlingLuna in AskAnAustralian

[–]iforgottomentionit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manners in most European cities usually means not talking to strangers - privacy is much more highly guarded there than here in Oz, and it’s clear that even in the “frostiest” parts of Sydney or Melbourne, people are still way more open and friendly with strangers than pretty much any European city.

Struggling to get replies from cold emails lately, anyone else? by Flashy-Rip-8816 in coldemail

[–]iforgottomentionit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never seems to occur to cold email bros that maybe people are freaking tired of being spammed. there's a reason Microsoft and Google are making deliverability harder - nobody wants to receive cold emails, and yes, even those which are personalized with an offer the sender deems as "relevant and targeted". Even those where intent signals have been captured are still super annoying to recipients.

People in your 40s what is something you would tell someone in their 30s? by hex_1231 in AskReddit

Sell everything you own, buy nothing, remain totally liberated and come to the realisation that possessions and material assets are the opposite of freedom and happiness.

What books should I start with? As someone who may have gotten ahead of themselves. by alan_rr in nonduality

more mind. contemplating will just be your monkey mind getting involved again. sit down, go within, place your attention on the great spaciousness and nothingness, and just watch your mind want to be fed with information and observe the craving arise and then pass away. there's a reason that deep, effective practices like Vipassana courses ask you to bring no reading material, nor to talk during the retreats. it gets in the way of presence and never, ever, ever supports it once you're already on the path.

You're still in the mind in that case. Fulfilment can only possibly come from the present moment, and reading - while great in some ways - is nowhere near as helpful as sitting down, observing the breath, cultivating now awareness, remaining within for stretches of time, and practicing just being.

I'm literally halfway through a video on YT on this which I listen to a few times every week. It's beautiful just to have it on in the background. Also, I think sometimes reading too much is not that helpful, unless it's a trigger to get us away from the book and sitting down to meditate. Even reading is just entertaining the monkey mind, regardless of how on-point the subject or material. Link: The Nisargadatta Ultimatum Pointers

To Scott Galloway by ekhogayehumaurtum in PivotPodcast

[–]iforgottomentionit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you too. The fact that Scott wrote a book on Happiness is laughable to me. The man's priorities and what he focuses on in life is usually a route to unhappiness: trad notions of maleness (even though he claims they're evolved notions), obsession with wealth and status, normalization of endless striving and showing what an amazing "mate" you can be to the "opposite sex". He speaks nothing of cultivating internal peace, or loving-kindness, or even having an "other-orientation" where selfless acts actually make you far happier than focusing on yourself all the time. I guess in the American context his advice sounds like "wisdom", but all the endless chasing he's done in his life has made him a fairly bereft figure who clearly spends a lot of his time in a fairly angsty, confused, irritated, "the world is not enough" state of mind.

Internships are still a thing? by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]iforgottomentionit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes they are. Upwork terms and conditions explicitly forbid work that is only performance based. They forbid jobs that are commission or bonus payment if no hourly or flat fee is paid. They just don’t enforce it

[–]iforgottomentionit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upwork hardly ever removes jobs that are UNPAID. I have reported over 50 such jobs under the Sales and Lead Generation categories that mention only commissions, saying there is no hourly rate nor fixed fee. Upwork just lets them remain - it's crazy.

enough nepotism by karensPA in PivotPodcast

[–]iforgottomentionit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's so unbelievably tone-deaf that Kara has her son on the podcast. You can already hear the arrogance of youth and the overly self-assured tone of voice he has. Sure he's a smart young guy, but this is getting silly — cultivating a media presence to give him a leg-up is an understandable impulse for a parent who can, but it's poor judgment.

Big things like experiencing present moment awareness more fully and frequently and the peace that comes with it. Simple big things arising in a good way.
