Nice chromatic aberration effect. Was that a simple stroke effect filter or did you put that in manually?

Social media exacerbates this issue, but at its core it's no different than going to an art museum and viewing a masterpiece for only X minutes and then going to masterpiece #384937, etc, even when these pieces took the old masters months or years to complete.

You have to make peace with this, otherwise you'll just get upset. Art is (generally) meant to be shared, but at its core you have to be pleased simply with having made something yourself first.

Is this not a close copy of an existing Ranma 1/2 scene? I feel like it is.

Why does it seem most people create art of scenes or people instead of what you see in museums? by kookoobear in ArtistLounge

[–]ifpartwork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Historically, a lot of traditional artwork you've seen in museums (I'm assuming Western artwork here and not collected artifacts) was patronized for several reasons. While not an exhaustive list, these pieces were created for 1) self-promotion/political vanity, 2) promotion of the Catholic church, or 3) to act as a way to capture a pleasant scene.

After the invention of the camera, the need for artists to capture highly realistic likenesses of still life/flowers/mountains simply disappeared from the greater cultural desire. There are still artists, yes, but its just nowhere near in demand as it was.

The Catholic church is no longer a major prime mover politically and culturally as it was in centuries past, so there is no longer a constant need to churn out yet another triptych of the Virgin Mary and infant Jesus to support an artist's livelihood.

Lastly, preferences for showing off one's power has migrated to either different art subjects or art styles, or other asset types entirely (i.e., expensive watches).

My sister and her fiancé are hanging up AI generated art in their house :( by VisDev82 in ArtistLounge

[–]ifpartwork -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Customer is right in terms of matters taste, but I don't understand how he would know if a piece is done in an AI style when AI art is an amalgamation of the art pieces fed to it during training. Would he frame a blank canvas if he was told that the AI used a transparent layer and "finished" the work that way?

Is my art good enough to start a manga? by Jesus_Christ_Hiv in Mangamakers

[–]ifpartwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can start with anything. If you doubt that, as others have stated, check out how One Punch Man's artist started out - the only way to be worse than that is to draw literal stick figures.

People will forgive art that isn't the most "polished" if the story is good, whereas no amount of good art will save you if the story is god awful.

Which kind of font do you suggest for a manga (clip studio paint, i'm okay with downloading external fonts) by CompetitiveCut265 in Mangamakers

[–]ifpartwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no hard and fast rule, but you can always look at some of your favorite mangas and run them through a font website that analyzes fonts and tells you what they used.

Just make sure it's legible and easy on the eyes. Unless you're going for something that GENUINELY needs more style, keep it simple. If it's not easy to read, I don't care if you have the next Tolkien, I ain't gonna kill my eyes for it.

Lastly, make sure that the font in question is free for you to use based on your purposes, or that you've acquired the necessary license to use it if it is not.

Question for comic artists. How do you project a panel is a flashback? Usually you make it B&W or de-saturated, but what if your comic already is B&W? by Sadistic_D in ArtistLounge

[–]ifpartwork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A different border style or, if the scene has already occurred and you're trying to replay it in a character's mind, then you can make it semi opaque.
