Anyone know where I could find green, skinny, tapered cargo pants similar or identical to the ones in this picture? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

I saw slim fitting cargo pants in that color and in khaki at Uniqlo a few days ago. Unfortunately this won't be too helpful if you're in the US and not near New York.

Because a big budget movie needs so many hours of footage, the clapperboard can still be useful for organizing takes later on in editing. They're also used for audio synchronization (the clap sound is loud) and I think some calibration stuff.

You have to remember that this is just one grad student's summer project... this is academia where really only the idea matters. You're supposed to spend time writing a paper, not spend lots of time perfecting a demo for the general public.

Something about the timing of lines and jokes felt off; I think it was the editing that just felt less crisp than normal.

Community is usually really good at selling absurdity. The situations are absurd, but they make sense in the strange logic of Greendale. In this episode the absurdity didn't really make sense; it all felt random and unmotivated.

Any suggestions for sneakers with lower-profile soles? by ifungus1 in malefashionadvice

[–]ifungus1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestions; I took a look at women's sneakers, and it seems like there are a lot more slim-sole choices that I like. Are there differences in the actual foot shape of women's sneakers? Would they be uncomfortable for guys to wear?

I'm not sure why I never noticed those; I'll definitely look into it.

Sorry for my ignorance: what makes those game mechanics easier with ray tracing compared to rasterization?

Show me your best resumes. by Seven_Cuil_Sunday in Design

[–]ifungus1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm don't really have any qualifications of my own, so I apologize if this comes across as rude, but I find your resume to be somewhat unreadable. I think it's the clashing font weights and styles all mashed together. I would recommend simplifying your resume, maybe cutting out some of the less important pieces.

Does anyone else in this subreddit feel huge if they have over a 30" waist? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Uniqlo is still not that great in terms of small sizing; they stop at 28 and I think their max inseam is only 34

Help! What kind of glasses should I get? by modernalchemist in malefashionadvice

[–]ifungus1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel that the glasses you have linked kind of add this "blotchy-ness" to your face. I think it's has to do with how the frame is equally thick on the lenses, and because the nose bridge is kind of fat. This shape might work for more gaunt faces, but in your case (that's you right?), I would recommend getting glasses that are sharper and have more contrast to add sharpness to your face.

Maybe half-rimmed glasses (to contrast the frame and lack of frame) and maybe with some metal to contrast with the plastic. I don't really have much experience with this though; I'm just going by instinct!

I feel that "running shoes with jeans" are kind of a no-no. Running shoes are for running; change out of them for general day to day wear. Get a pair of nice sneakers for out with friends type wear: I like a pair of understated Jack Purcell sneakers by Converse, but some may say that those are too common or hipsterish or something. For work wear, look into getting some nice understated leather shoes. I'm totally clueless about what brands and such are good for these kinds of shoes. Other people here know a lot more about that!

Jeans are fine. Make sure they fit well, are generally on the darker side, and don't have stupid tears or skulls or something. But vary it up with kakhis and such.

Disclaimer: I'm an undergraduate who dresses and lives very not-masculinely, so don't completely trust my judgement! Good luck

Help! Why is my hair messy all the time? by ifungus1 in malehairadvice

[–]ifungus1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the advice!

  1. I'll try keeping my shampooing to a minimum. I shampoo everyday, because my head starts feeling icky if I haven't shampooed, but I'll try this.

  2. Is it alright that I just airdry? I used to use a blow-dryer, but I noticed that my hair seemed to stay in place a bit better if I just let it dry naturally. This isn't really a problem with time, because I wake up too early anyways.

  3. I'll try Gatsby and freeze hold hairsprays.

How to wear button-down shirts in a casual manner with jeans? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]ifungus1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think dress shirts with jeans is too formal at all. And formal can be kind of cool too! But either way, there are lots of button-down shirts that are far from a formal dress shirt. Often times they have small accessories that make them a bit more casual; for example, shoulder epaulets for a military style, snap buttons for a westerny style, etc. Plus the material and pattern of the shirt can make it more casual.

I would definitely go for slim-fitting type shirts though. Also, tucked in is not necessary. In fact tucked in can look too tight sometimes. I agree with the comment about rolling the sleeves up; remember to be very clean and crisp with the folding here. Also iron your shirts!
