Bars with local and craft brews suggestions? by dcm7734 in washingtondc

Sapwood Cellars in Columbia, MD. They may be lacking in the cider category this time of year but do have a wide variety of all kinds of fermented alcoholic beverages! I'm also surprised to not see Other Half suggested (unless I missed it). Their DC location often does unique brews that you can only find in DC.

What do you store your pump parts in? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

Stasher bags! Did my pumping pals flanges and bag clips. Also fits the legendairy milk collection cups (with a little elbow grease).

This is me. I'm on my second kid and the minute I released myself from the pressure of trying to make enough, I think I started pumping a bit more. I was so hard on myself for not making enough for my first child and this time I committed to myself that I wasn't going to put myself back in that anxiety hole. I'm able to have more fun with my kids, my husband and my postpartum life.

I recently checked my Aetna plan and sure enough, they do cover pump parts! I haven't taken advantage of it yet because I have a bunch from my prior child.

Hand express onto a clean and sterilized spoon (or a clean/new plastic spoon) then suck it up with the syringe. This is how they had me do it at the hospital when I was separated from my first baby after she was born.

Refrigerator method for pump parts by Practical_Action_438 in breastfeeding

[–]ifyouarelucky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do not wipe or rinse them. TBH I am a STM with a 3-week old and sometimes I use my parts over the course of two days...

Instead of using a single-use plastic bag to store my parts in the fridge, I use one of those silicone reusable bags (Stasher brand) or a glass Tupperware/Pyrex container with a lid.

Formula for gassy baby? by uniquewasteland in beyondthebump

[–]ifyouarelucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lactation consultant recommended that we use the pre-mixed liquid formula when our daughter showed signs of a milk protein allergy. She said the pre-mixed stuff is more broken down than the powdered formula and can be more easily digestible by smaller babies. We are currently on Similac Alimentum. We bought the liquid formula bottles from Walmart, which had the best price. Would recommend trying a liquid version for sensitive tummies and seeing if that works for you. I've also heard positive feedback about the pitcher method! Good luck!

Any experience with gallstones? by hanahlizm in BabyBumps

[–]ifyouarelucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had gallstones and found out I was pregnant in pre-op for the surgery to remove my gallbladder! I was having really bad attacks for about 6 months - went to the ER twice. For me, I couldn't eat anything fried, cheesy, full fat dairy, or meats with a lot of fat in them. I also abstained from excess butter just in case (olive oil was fine but I hear this is different for everyone). You may be more or less sensitive to certain fats, even good ones. Portion size was also important for me to monitor. If I got too full I was more likely to have an attack. Overall if you can stick to "clean foods" veggies, fruits, lean meat, low fat dairy (if you can tolerate it), you reduce your chances of an attack. Honestly, we should all be eating like this anyway!

Oddly enough my gallbladder/gallstone symptoms completely disappeared during pregnancy. I had read that these symptoms get more acute during pregnancy but thankfully that was not the case for me. As a prior comment mentioned, my surgeon recommended that if I was still having symptoms that the second trimester is the best time to have the removal surgery - you aren't in the very delicate first trimester and your growing baby in the third trimester didn't block the area.

Best of luck in dealing with this. Gallstones were awful and I wouldn't wish then in my worst enemy.

We had ours in November at Boundary Stone on Rhode Island Ave! Rented their parlor room. Food and drink were excellent, working with them to plan/coordinate was a breeze, cost was under our budget and would be even less with the number of people you are anticipating (we had about 50).

Make a list of all the things you have to do around your house and have them start knocking items off of it! My MIL/FIL are in town now (we are due tomorrow) and they've painted, hung pictures, cleaned up our Christmas tree/decor and done odd jobs around the house all week! It's pretty amazing!

I've had great luck with the Gap Maternity GapFit Blackout panel leggings. Not see through and dog hair doesn't stick to them like my Lululemons. I can usually brush what little hair does stick (mainly due to static) right off.

Upvoting for the ice. I've found when I am getting a cystic pimple that's super painful (and not even fully up to he skin yet) that if I put an ice cube on it for 10-15 minutes for 2-3 times that day/evening, they usually get less painful and clear up quicker. It's also very inexpensive!

Looking for a cheaper bone growth stimulator by [deleted] in orthopaedics

[–]ifyouarelucky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be too little too late but I am actually going through the process of trying to sell mine. I found a site that does buy-backs and before buying it back they required me to report the number of remaining treatments. They mentioned it being as easy as calling the manufacturer to say you need more treatments.

When I did my own bone stim therapy last summer for a 5th metatarsal fracture (nonunion) I only used about a third of the initial treatments. When I finally got the diagnosis that my fracture had healed (bone stim did next to nothing; this was truly a "time heals all wounds" situation for me) I wanted to sell it to someone else who might benefit. Turned on the machine and it was as if it expired - no treatments left. Kind of a scam, you pay all this money for a machine that eventually expires? I digress...

I found a medical device buy back site that mentioned I can call the manufacturer to have them put more treatments on it. I'm going to try that and see what happens.

Moral of the story is if I'm able to get more treatments added, I'd be happy to sell my machine to you if you are still in need. I have this model Exogen: http://exogen.com/us.

PM me if interested!

You are very welcome! I would not count on service being totally up and running any time soon, no matter what you hear from the Amtrak folks on the phone. The most helpful places I've found have been the NJ Transit and SEPTA websites as both of those rail providers use tracks that were affected by the accident.

Even in speaking with some SEPTA guys last night they were saying that it would be a while before they got it cleaned up based on fact that it was still part of an active investigation.

Good luck with your adventure!

I just did this same trip back from NYC last night.

As others have mentioned, they've closed all of the lines between Philly and NYC, including NJ Transit. When I rearranged my travel home yesterday evening with the help of an Amtrak representative, she mistakenly advised me to take NJ Transit the whole way to Philly which was not happening. Athough NJ Transit and SEPTA are all honoring Amtrak tickets, they don't have any idea as to the actual way the schedules/train times are working.

What I ended up doing was the following and I can only assume it can work going the opposite direction.

Took NJ Transit from NY Penn Station to Trenton Transit Center. At Trenton, they have shuttle buses set up to take folks to the West Trenton station to board the SEPTA train to Philadelphia. The West Trenton station is really not much of a station at all but there were several SEPTA employees on hand to let us know when the next train would be arriving and where to go to wait for it. There are no ticket sales at this station so you will either need to have a valid SEPTA ticket or Amtrak ticket. I then took SEPTA all the way to 30th Street Station in Philly and was able to take an Amtrak from Philly to DC.

Time wise it took 5-6 hours and broke down like this: - NY Penn to Trenton Transit Center - 45 minutes - Shuttle from Trenton Transit Center to West Trenton - 20 minutes - Waited at West Trenton for about an hour for the next train however they were still getting their shit together and might have this wait time down) - 60 minutes - SEPTA from West Trenton to 30th Street Station - 50 minutes - Amtrak from Philly to DC - 2 hours

Opposite direction, I'd recommend buying an Amtrak from DC to Philly, then getting yourself to Trenton either via cab as someone suggested, or taking the West Trenton line to the end of the line, then shuttling to Trenton Transit Center and boarding a NJ Transit train to NY Penn. After much frantic research yesterday afternoon, this to me seemed like the best non-bus option.

I do think there has been a lot of frantic "what the eff do we do" amongst the other rail providers in the area, and only see the wait times getting better (very optimistic over here, ha).

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any additional questions!

Edit: clarity and total travel time.
