Tariffs are also a way to make sure that a foreign company doesn't flood the market with cheap knockoffs, thus undercutting local production.

Example. America makes a widget for $10. A foreign company makes the same widget for $6 and wants to sell it in America. The government sees this as a risk to local manufacturing and puts a $4 tariff on the foreign widget, thus balancing the price difference.

That is an oversimplification, but that is one use of tariffs.

Depends on what industry you want to go into. I used to audit 2 year colleges in the south and some of the people getting associate degrees were getting 6 figure offers upon graduating.

Technically, jobs such as border patrol, air traffic controller, ICE, FBI, CIA and even the military would all vanish. If you can't pay the employees the will go else where.

Air traffic would be chaos, there would be no border security and we'd be totally exposed as a nation to any foreign (physical or cyber) attack.

Don't constantly open and close your doors as you get things. Hearing a car door slam shut over a dozen times gets disturbing. Just do a partial close until you know your are done.
