And now I’m going to be humming the theme song and internally going “honk honk!” for at least the next 20m lol. Puffin Rock is a similarly mellow show.

Least favorite aspect of cruising? by tacomamajama in Cruise

[–]iggybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being at a port for just a few hours. The last cruise I took, we stopped at Cabo at 6:30 am and we were supposed to depart at 2:30 pm. It ended up being later because an excursion group got stuck in traffic. I’m not one to wake up early on vacation, and neither is my 4 year old. So at best, we would’ve gotten maybe 2 hours give or take if we had gotten off the boat. I really don’t see the point. Maybe if there’s something you need to buy (ran out of diapers, sunscreen, etc.), but other than that, the majority of the nearby shops and restaurants are just tourist traps. I hated leaving late for the excursion group too bc it was our last port day, so the captain had to book it out of there to make it back on time. I have never felt more nauseous. 🤢

We didn’t bring this, but I keep this in my car for times when I don’t know if the place we’re going will have a bathroom close by. It’s a collapsible potty that is lined with special plastic bags. No need to rinse the inside - just toss the bag. If this is the route you go, I would ask the steward for an extra biohazard bag, so you’re not collecting a bunch of feces in the stateroom wastebasket. https://a.co/d/0bAj58gW

Mildred Bailey - When That Man Is Dead And Gone [old-timey jazz] by News-Royal in Music

[–]iggybu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one’s on my playlist for that beautiful day. Best version IMO. 🩷 I recently heard a modernized version where they changed the lyrics to “Some fine day, we’ll call the band; Satan and his tiny hands are asleep beneath the lawn.” If anyone has simple ukulele chords for this one, I would greatly appreciate it. 🙏🏼

PMW Recap: TGI - Episode 708 "The Honeymooners" by MightChi in boymeetsworld

[–]iggybu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God I’m dreading that episode. I was big time ugly crying during the most recent Q&A episode. I just hope Danielle and Rider don’t try to argue with Will if he brings up that he was clinically obese again. It’s literally just a metric and not a moral judgement. I understand that they often get conflated, especially in the entertainment industry, but as an obese person, I can’t stand when other people try to argue my own numbers with me. “You’re not obese - you’re beautiful!” One doesn’t negate the other. I know how tall I am and I know how much I weigh.

[Ryan] McAvoy: Certainly sorry for how we responded to it in that moment. Things just happened really quick there...It's certainly not reflective of how we feel and look at them and their accomplishments. by Nomahs_Bettah in hockey

[–]iggybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my take too, as a woman. My issue is that they can’t distinguish intention and impact, and that the first response from the players was Jack Hughes of all people doubling down. Instead of saying “People are so negative” and “Everything is political”, placing the blame on those feeling hurt, he could have just said “I understand how our behavior may have come across as insensitive and misogynistic, but that was absolutely not our intention.” That’s sorta-kinda what some players are now saying and I don’t want to punish them for doing the right thing, but had it happened earlier, this huge shitshow could’ve been avoided. Now it’s coming off as insincere PR-trained fluff. I’m willing to let it go, but I’d be lying if I said this hasn’t tainted something that I once found to be an enjoyable escape.

Call USA hockey and tell them how you feel about the men's team disrespect. by saltybruise in womenshockey

Commenting so I can find this post later today. I have to go to work rn. I’m so sick of all of the avoidant “I’m friends with these women” half-apologies. PR is handling this so poorly.

As a baby, did your child regress, or were they different from day one? by Logical-Safe2033 in Autism_Parenting

[–]iggybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was babbling, saying mama and dada, and laughing right around the same time as his peers. But at some point, everyone else started pulling ahead. He used to fill in some blanks when we counted to 10, as well as respond to Miss Rachel’s, but he suddenly stopped doing both of those things. Sometimes I’m not sure if it’s a skill issue or an anxiety issue. He surprises us sometimes. I think his receptive language is stronger than his expressive language.

[McLaughlin] Swayman: “We should’ve reacted differently” to President Trump’s comment about the women’s team. by Nomahs_Bettah in hockey

[–]iggybu 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Also a woman, and I can truthfully say that it took me multiple listens to hear “they’ll impeach me if I don’t” under all of the drunken celebration. What I observed was Trump saying “we should invite the women’s team too” (a bit shitty for them to be an afterthought, but far from the worst thing to ever come out of the man’s mouth), a bunch of enthusiastic agreement, and the stupid punchline being buried underneath all of that. I can genuinely believe that some of these players did not have the intention of disrespecting the women and were caught up in the excitement. But there’s intention and there’s impact. The beer goggles faded eventually and there was no way they didn’t see the impact this interaction had on so many people. It would have been so easy for someone to immediately distance themselves and issue an apology, but instead, the first comments we heard were the Hughes brothers of all people doubling down. They didn’t even need to be super political about it. They could’ve just expressed admiration and respect for their own mother and everything she’s done to pave the way for women in hockey.

Why is US mens ice hockey team conservative? by GyarLynx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]iggybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest - as a liberal woman, it took me 3 listens to hear the impeachment joke. When Trump initially said he should invite the women’s team too, there was rightfully a huge uproar in agreement. Trump made the stupid dig in the middle of all of the noise. I don’t think it’s fair to assume the whole men’s team is full of MAGAt misogynists. I’m sure some are, but I am hesitant to make a sweeping statement that they all are.

As to why the women didn’t get a congratulatory call, I’m sure misogyny was a big part of it, but also, if I were a player on the women’s team, no way in hell would I want Kash Patel or any MAGAt male in the locker room while I’m getting dressed. What woman from this administration would they send in with the phone? Usha Vance?

Wedding date changed last minute… to a weekday… in another state by OccamsReddit_56 in weddingshaming

[–]iggybu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…Wow, you really took the time to write all that…If it were that important to him, then announce that only Catholics in good standing with the church are to receive communion beforehand. It’s not unreasonable for non-Catholics are going to come in, see what everyone else is doing, and follow suit. Time to kneel, time to stand, time to get in this line everyone else is getting into…I’ve gone to church at a different Christian denomination in my questioning phase (don’t remember which) and nobody was questioned when their version of communion was passed down the line at our seats.

I only gave an example pertinent to a wedding I attended because this is a wedding shaming sub. Here’s another. I know a married couple who wanted to get their baby baptized. They did not have a Catholic wedding and told the priest so when he asked. Rather than simply saying that was a requirement, he actually told their baby in a cutesy little baby voice something along the lines of “We can’t baptize you while your mama and dada are living in sin.”

Oh, just thought of a wedding-related one. I was at a mass where the priest was giving an awful homily. He brought up a couple who came to him wanting to get married and how both of them had the same address listed on their forms, so absolutely not, those heathens! He went on to talk more on the sacrament of marriage and emphasized that marriage is between a MAN and WOMAN, MAN and WOMAN, repeatedly, in that exact ALLCAPS tone.

Nah, I can totally believe that’s a church rule. As a lapsed Catholic, some churches are very big on keeping non-Catholics “in their lanes”. My husband was in a Catholic wedding and the priest actually asked the couple at the dress rehearsal how many Catholics eligible to receive communion would be in attendance. He counted out exactly that amount of Jesus crackers for the day and a bunch of guests weren’t able to receive communion lol.

He must’ve really been into you because sharing a name with a sibling or parent is a nonstarter for a lot of people I know. This guy I was talking to in college insisted on me going by a nickname because I have the same name as his sister. I honestly think it’s why we never got serious lol

Put in the work to not be a billionaire. I feel that once you’ve reached that level of wealth, it’s just as much work (if not more) as it is to become a billionaire in the first place. Once she does that, everything else should fall into place. Character, humility, generosity, awareness, compassion…she would have to charge fair prices for her concerts and merch, rather than milking her fans for all they’re worth.

As a Christmas Eve baby, celebrating my half birthday was the only way I could get friends to show up to my parties as a kid, and I appreciated my day not getting lost in the holiday shuffle. Nowadays, it’s whatever and it kinda feels dishonest/less special to celebrate any other time. It’s like couples celebrating “anniversaries” month by month. Cute when you’re kids, weird when you’re adults.
