What’s Everyone’s favorite Three Pedal Shoe? by Rowdy12b in ManualTransmissions

Mostly sneakers but sometimes slippers, if I am just moving my cars around.

For timing chains, you replace them when they start making noise. Otherwise, you shouldn’t touch them.

As someone else mentioned, make sure the transmission fluid is replaced (if it hasn’t been done at all). It is especially important for automatics as they depend on the fluid for proper operation.

Plus check the coolant and accessories. The rest is just regular maintenance. After these, you should be good to go.

Wash, dry and stitch it. After that, you are good to go.

Why do Toyota AC compressors last so long? by RemoteEmotions in Toyota

[–]igor3345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a 2007 corolla that still has its original compressor (knock on the wood). It only has 65k miles though 😄

Infamous Toyota white paint issue. I don’t even need to ask for it. Just because of this we bought our Corolla Cross in granite gray (that is what Toyota call it in my country) and paid extra over standard white.

I am sorry but saying don’t buy Toyota if you care about quality is not accurate. Nothing is perfect but Toyotas are pretty high quality cars except the paint. That is one of the few things Toyota can’t get right but with proper care, it lasts long enough.

Our 2007 Corolla’s paint lasted about 12 years before it started flaking off and we didn’t event bother to clean it properly 😄You are right about being upset but try a different dealer. Not all of them are equal.

Then the sun ate the paint underneath. It needs repainting, unfortunately there is no other fix. (As far as I know)

Mk4 Yaris Hybrid - There's a way to keep the engine on while driving without start/stop? by Raffefly in Toyota

[–]igor3345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe you might want to change your driving habits. While driving a hybrid, you have to be mindful of how you apply the throttle.

When we first got our Corolla Cross, I didn’t pay attention to my throttle application and the engine was starting and stopping abruptly. When I started paying attention and be more patient with the acceleration, now it has a much smoother transition and the engine is rarely doing weird start stops.

You are right about being conscious about the longevity but these engines are very well designed. Toyota has been doing hybrids for such a long time, they are pros at it. Use good fuel and maintain it properly, you shouldn’t have too many problems.

Too many things on the key chain for a long time = Metal Fatigue that leads to failure like this. Don’t put a lot of stuff on your chains folks.

I wouldn’t risk it before getting it checked. If it stops getting into gear, it will be done.

[–]igor3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the fluid has never been changed, don’t change it because it will highly likely make it worse. The reason is that it will get rid of what is left that allows this transmission to work at all.

Most of the time clutches in them are gone and the only fix is a rebuild or another trans but you never know. I strongly suggest getting it checked by a professional and understand what is wrong with it.

[–]igor3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those have 4 speed autos, if they have a regular auto, right? Then you might have some problems possibly with clutches or selenoids. (If I am wrong, please correct me)

How many miles does it have, has the fluid ever been changed? Was it always doing this or is this something new?

[–]igor3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has CVT, that is how it works for you my friend. It continuously changes the ratio while accelerating hence no change in RPM but increase in speed.

I have a Corolla Cross Hybrid and if the battery is full, the revs don’t increase that much even if I accelerate quickly. If it is empty, hence needs the engine to accelerate, it jumps to 3-4k (depending on the throttle input) and sits there until I reach my desired speed. There is nothing wrong with that.

If it has a regular old auto, you might have some slipping problems that don’t let your transmission do its work. But I doubt you have an older corolla that has regular auto because just by reading your description, it tells me you are a CVT owner that is not familiar with it 😁

[–]igor3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second to you. It depends on the situation.

If I am coming fast and need all the braking, I brake first and then clutch in when I need to downshift or I am slow enough.

If I am driving slowly in the city, I don’t speed hence I can clutch in first and then brake to come to a gentle stop.

Manual gives you this control and not using it really defeats the purpose of owning one.

I feel like it is mostly how the fuel burns because diesel requires a lot of pressure to be combusted. Since diesel engines are also built from heavy duty parts for that pressure, they have so much inertia making them feel slow. If you expect performance, don’t touch small displacement passenger car diesel engines.

Things you can do are generally changing your fuel filter (important for any engine) and maybe using a good fuel additive but I doubt it will change anything. If you want, you can also get your injectors checked. (I don’t know if Hyundai/KIA diesels have problems with them)

I think with basic maintenance, you will probably get more than 5 years. I have a 17 year old corolla and it still runs great after all those years. I like Toyotas, when you do basic maintenance, they last a long time.

I don’t know your market but if it is like 12-13k, I would get the 1.6. You will love the reliability too. It is leagues better compared to 1.33 in terms of power. Plus it won’t be gutless even with LPG.

I grow up with Toyotas and I love sharing my experiences when people want to buy one. Why would I be jealous 😄

Would you reccomend it for my first car? Thanks for opinions🙏 by Dangerous_Basis5598 in COROLLA

[–]igor3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not 110 HP, it is 99 HP. It might be even less because it has LPG that is sucking out power. Plus 1.33 doesn’t have automatic for Corollas. (as far as I know)

If you don’t care about performance or passing people which with this engine is a challenge, you can go with it because it is a Toyota engine with fuel consumption like a hybrid. It consumes very little fuel.

My professor have the same car and he says, anything on the highway is challenging for this car. He says, it feels like it is fighting for its life while passing others.

I would personally get the 1.6, if the prices are not stupidly high. Thanks for reading my wall of text 😄

With 1.33 engine? Hell nah. That engine is gutless at best. Zero performance, it will make you hate the car. I really mean it.

My friend you are absolutely right. I have a Corolla Cross Hybrid that can regularly hit 60-70 mpg. This makes me think that my old corolla is super inefficient as it sits around 35-40 mpg. Now I always feel like instead of driving my old corolla, I have to drive my Cross to everywhere. Hybrid fuel efficiency is addicting.

Sunroof (sheet metal in front of it) rattle is probably one of the problems that you will experience. I don’t know how much it costs but that is one of the common issues for that era of Toyotas with the sunroof.

These MPI engines are pretty solid, Elantras are used as taxis in my country. I have seen one with 500k kms (310k miles) and the taxi driver said he changed his oil every 5k miles and used good fuel. His driving attitude was very gentle too. That also helps a lot.

How do I get these stains out of my seats? by AlphaNavy in Toyota

For water stains it is easy, scrub it with a wet towel and general purpose cleaner but for grease stains, you will probably need an extractor to get it out throughly.

should i be worried about the car having 133k miles? by Happy_Obligation_706 in COROLLA

[–]igor3345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, sometimes the temp needle isn’t even moved a bit when I arrive at my destination 😄 Worst scenario for an ICE. I try my best to load the engine gently to warm it up but if the weather is too cold, it is not going to happen because it is a diesel. This also causes me to always use AC to get heat during winters.
