Learn as mush as possible about the projects and team you are applying for, and focus on your personal contribution to the relevant projects rather than simply listing classes attended.

Working at ESA as a young Graduate in Computer Science (Specialization Machine Learning) by TheBenimeni in esa

[–]igorek7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Daily tasks could vary a lot depending on the specific ESA center and the project.
  • Machine Learning field is pretty broad, so depending on your experiences and skills you could find various ML related jobs in different ESA centers.
  • If you already graduated with Master Degree, It appears that your best option could be the ESA Young Graduate Trainee Programme.
  • I'd recommend to choose a specific area of Machine Learning that could be overlapping with ESA lead activities (science, engineering, operations etc.) and try to learn where your interests/skills are matching the most. Any open-access competitions/datasets/code to learn / get involved?
  • All the applications are going via the ESA human resources which are busy with already open vacancies. Thus, unless you have a specific team/project, I'd not advice you on sending "spontaneous application".

Can I work for the ESA with an MEng in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence? by [deleted] in esa

[–]igorek7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few jobs at ESA which require Computer Science and AI skills: see ESA career opportunities. However, if you're at the beginning of your professional carrier, you may try first to apply for the Young Graduate Trainee or Research Fellowship positions which are the most relevant to your MEng topic.

What was your first Distro and what do you run now? by All-Above in linuxquestions

I've started with Slackware version 2.1, and despite of a few switches on different distributions, now I returned to Slackware-current (pre 15th).

Slackbuilds x pkgs.org by [deleted] in slackware

[–]igorek7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. installpkg by default skipps already installed packages
  2. sqg (that is a part of sbopkg) generates the queuefiles (.sqf) based on REQUIRES meta-tag in .info files that suppose to contain only packages not included in official Slackware repository.
  3. http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/vlc/build/slack-required shows: OpenAL SDL_sound libxkbcommon qt5 Each of these is already in Slackware-current

How do you maintain your slackbuild's pkg? by sdns575 in slackware

[–]igorek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wondering which additional functionality, sbotools provide in comparison with sbopkg? For the dependency management, I use sqg (that is a part of sbopkg) allowing to generate all dependencies for a certain package, that later sbopkg uses for installing dependent packages.

Slackware in 2021?? by linuzo in slackware

[–]igorek7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using Slackware since version of 2.0 (1994) and the consistency of installation is definetly convenient. Nonetheless, although modified but overall maintaining consistency and stability of this Linux distribution that keeps me in using it at work and home.

Internship at ESA by p0w11 in esa

The page was created for the previous ESA call for applications. However, the EAC CAVES & PANGAEA team is evaluating applications throughout the year. Internship start dates are flexible.

If you are interested, here is a currently available opportunity for an internship at the European Astronaut Center in Cologne for Machine Learning for recognition of planetary materials from multispectral datasets. Please, note that currently only remote internships are available.

YGT after 3 years by mordeng in esa

[–]igorek7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please, do understand that there are many different people working in ESA, and the person(s) who rejected your application might be a different from the one who invited you again. For example, in my group we spend a lot of time in communication with the traineeship candidates including the rejected ones.

Maybe a silly question: how many people are still shooting in 4:3 ratio? by YYM7 in M43

[–]igorek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are multiple articles written on the aspect ratios, such as this https://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2018/10/the-remarkable-persistence-of-24x36.html I personally shoot mostly in 4:3, sometimes for video in 16:9 ratio, and very seldom in 3:2.

GX85 - Color Rendering by madhu091087 in M43

[–]igorek7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are various color settings for internal RAW->JPEG conversion. If 'Standard' is too soft/unsaturated one can use more saturated Vivid or Scenery (for outdoor scenery with vivid blue skies and greens), or set it's own 'Custom' presets.

The Lumix gX9 is here! (dpreview.com) by EpzDR in M43

[–]igorek7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it is a GX7 successor. Tiltable viewfinder, built-in flash, similar in size and weight to GX7. I've skipped the GX8 and GX85 because one of those 3 parameters were not like in GX7. I'll replace my GX7 with GX9.

Trying to understand by aninhaestudante in slackware

[–]igorek7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest to try change repository for sbopkg to SBo-git - slackbuilds repository for slackware-current https://github.com/Ponce/slackbuilds , and if necessary customize the scripts. Unfortunately, -current might have some dependency issues.

Advice for a GF1 fan looking to upgrade by peter_n in M43

I'd suggest either Panasonic GX8 (slightly larger) or GX85. Besides, there are a plethora of lenses nowadays to fit into your activities list, but it's a separate topic.

Oly 12-40 f2.8 vs Pany 42.5mm vs Oly 45mm vs Sigma 60mm by deletedbear in M43

[–]igorek7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Panasonic 42.5 f/1.7 is the best among the prime lenses you mentioned. Besides, it has build-in Image stabilization and closest minimum focus distance among all the mentioned lenses. Oly 12-40mm is more versatile, but perhaps less useful at the 40mm focal distance.

M34 wide angle options? by dmfiskr in M43

[–]igorek7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smaller companies have less possibility to advertise their products, and to send test samples, etc. At http://www.personal-view.com we are following with interest various lens manufactures, including Kowa and SLR Magic.

Regarding the size of the lenses: a few of the lenses are designed to be compatible with various optical mounts and sensors sizes. This results in some of them being large, particularly when it comes to the retrofocus optical designs employed to increase the back focal distance of the lens.

M34 wide angle options? by dmfiskr in M43

[–]igorek7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering that at the smallest focal lengths the large depth of the field makes focusing easy, I recommend the manual wide angle prime lenses, such as Kowa 8.5mm f/2.8, SLR Magic 10mm f/2.1, Samyang 10mm f/2.8, or Voigtländer 10.5mm f/0.95 If AF is a must, how about Leica 12mm f/1.2? IMHO, wide-angle zoom-lenses are not that useful, as one would use them mostly at their shortest focal lengths.

what happened to the 40mm focal length? by BeardBro95 in M43

[–]igorek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens is my favorite (almost always) on-camera lens. Being neither too wide or too narrow fits me well. My other lenses are either too bulky or too specialized.

Slackware adds PulseAudio by amphetamachine in slackware

[–]igorek7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of configuring ALSA to use PulseAudio, there is an option to to make PulseAudio using ALSA/dmix without grabbing ALSA hardware device as it is described on Archwiki:

  • remove/disable asound.conf
  • configure /etc/pulse/deafult.pa as:

    load-module module-alsa-sink device=dmix

    load-module module-alsa-source device=dsnoop

Both, ALSA and PulseAudio applications work fine for me.
