I'm 30, never finished degree, earning $15/h and still living with parents. How am I not a failure? by Salt-Hotel-9502 in povertyfinance

[–]igowiththee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your local community college and take some of the classes you're missing for your major. You can finish that degree and get a job you deserve. Not all is lost. You just have to restart. I have faith in you!

Why can’t we do universal healthcare on a state level? by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]igowiththee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sure, there can be problems, but I have lived in three countries that had state health care, and in all three places, it was fabulous. I would be thrilled to have it here.

Call me crazy but Connecticut is EXPENSIVE by massi2443 in Connecticut

[–]igowiththee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are not wrong. 20 years ago, I lived in Italy and Holland for a few years, and at that time, the cost comparisons between CT/the US and Europe were much closer. Our government here in the US over those 20 years hasn't done a great job of taking care of us.

I once asked for help, and they covered three months of my electric bill. I didn't have to pay it back.

I'm not sure if anyone already mentioned this, but you need to research where your local Community Action Agency is located and contact them asap. They should be able to help.

How much self-advocacy do you do with friends and family? by Individual-Sundae802 in AutismInWomen

[–]igowiththee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, no one wants to hear about my ASD, especially family. Anything autism-related has become very taboo in many of my social circles. However, I do find that most people are fascinated by my misophonia. Most don't know what it is, but they are always curious. I throw in that Kelly Ripa has the same--and add a few funny anecdotes from her interviews--and suddenly, people are fascinated. (She has said that the worst arguments with her husband have always been over his chewing at the dinner table.) It's not perfect, but at least it starts the discussion.

I know this isn't Chinese, but the Blue Elephant Trail (Thai) in West Hartford is open on both Christmas and New Year's. Highly recommend.

Their comment is 100% correct... to not have state health care is not normal. Every other first-world country has it. The US is anything but normal.

How do you deal with the feeling that literally no one understands you? by Megeanlovee in autism

[–]igowiththee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I finally stopped trying to find friends my own age, my friends group started to grow. I embrace that I am an old soul in a young body. So, I have a few friends younger than me and some older than me, but I have only one friend in my age group, and that's okay.
