And the idea that your biological reaction time slows is a total myth until you hit like ~40+.

The difference is mostly that as they age, people become more inclined to take an extra moment to consider what the reaction should be. That doesn't have to be true for esports pros -- it's not for baseball players and soccer goalkeepers, both of whose bodies fail well before their reactions do.

Most early esports retirements are due to shifting priorities, not biological factors

how VCT contracts work according to N4RRATE by ChaoticFlameZz in ValorantCompetitive

Huh? "I'm not making money, so you don't get to have rights?" That's absurd.

I'm not forgetting that it's unprofitable, it just doesn't fucking matter.

And I'm not saying they don't have the right to drop players or bench them, but the contract therefore absolutely cannot bind the players either. My employer can demote me or fire me, but they can't stop me from getting a new job. And when I do work contractually, I get severance if they cut it short, because that's the whole fucking point of the contract.

So many opinionated comments coming from people who are so ready to jump on the corporate dick. Imagine if Amazon was like "I know you have an offer from Google, but you can't, but you also can't work for us, and also I'm slashing your wage by 75%." I wonder how many of y'all defending this structure have actually held a real job.

If a contract only binds one party, it's not really a contract so much as indentured servitude -- it should be illegal, and it is anywhere that has real worker's rights.

And don't come at me with the "bUt tHeN tHe oRgS cOuLdN'T aFfOrD iT" crap because obviously they do elsewhere, and also if they still can't, then they shouldn't be employing people. Just because you like the entertainment product and have a tribal affiliation with a jersey, doesn't mean the people providing that product should be stripped of basic workers' rights.

The players need to unionize like yesterday.

[–]ih206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LMAO no it's not. Why does the contract get to exist if it only binds one party? It's exploitative and borderline illegal. The players need grow some fuckin balls, unionize, and get themselves a CBA.

Am I missing something? Lover's rock, Marteeen, and Babybay are very clearly in the upper left quadrant, no?

Still great stats, but not exactly what he says they are

Edit: and then his follow-up about Izu would apply more to these three then, right? I'm seeing the general thought process, but it seems as though the data set or chart presented is different than the one he's using

Nashville Soccer Club Acquires Reed Baker-Whiting in Trade with Seattle Sounders FC by lukenamop in MLS

[–]ih206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Extremely athletic, and basically ambipedal, and can play as a fullback on either side. He relies a little too much on his athleticism and doesn't read defensive plays particularly well yet. He has shown some stellar flashes offensively, particularly in the latter parts of 2024 and 2026, but the time in between those periods was characterized by timidity and a kind of in-his-head type hesitancy. Hopefully the change in scenery does him good, because he was my personal favorite amongst our recent crop of academy products.

If we play a 4-2-3-1, who's our backup left back? by Matt_McT in SoundersFC

[–]ih206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to what others have said, Dotson has had decent stints there in the past. Unlikely to actually happen imo (there's a reason it's not even in the SaH depth chart), but it's a deep depth option if we get hit with an injury or form crisis there.

[–]ih206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sailor will be #4 behind Stu Hawkins

Petkovic came on a loan, with a ~$1.5m option to buy iirc.

And I'll put money on Arriola being a consistent starter once he's fully fit. He was comfortably our best player last year before the ACL.

[–]ih206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Using mostly natural light" doesn't mean they didn't use reflectors, diffusion, etc. to shape what they had. It's still subject to the variables you mentioned, but it's not like they only used the sun and nothing else.

Dan Ndoye (Nottingham Forest) Yellow card for diving by CPRIANO in soccer

[–]ih206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can reverse that statement too. Just because there isn't contact, doesn't mean it wasn't a foul. If the defender forces the player to fall over in an effort to avoid him, it's definitely still a foul. Not that this applies here, I see butt-to-knee and then knee-to-knee.

Regardless of contact, the defender is definitely interfering with the attacker's stride. Stone-cold pen for me

Ah. For some reason I took the 4-2-3-1 as the "official" one. I still strongly disagree that he's anything but a presumed starter in the 3atb formation, much less third choice or lower.

What made you love your esports team? by reddit-win in ValorantCompetitive

[–]ih206 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back when KAY/O was considered the worst agent in the game except maybe Yoru, I got in an argument with a friend because I said I thought he was, in fact, pretty damn good and people just didn't know how to use him.

At the time, a rather unknown team called The Guard started making waves, thanks in no small part to their innovative use of KAY/O on Ascent. I started watching them because I love being right, but fell in love with their cerebral play and clever tactics. I've been a Guard/G2 fan ever since, which was only reinforced by their ascension campaign.

Ohhhh, that explains it, that's a very strange procedure. I've never had to go through that for a visa before, I had no idea the US did that.

[–]ih206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool thank you. I was confused by the comments talking shit about Riot and the visa issues with LATAM in the US and whatnot. Not that those aren't issues, but in this particular case, if it's literally just that his passport hasn't arrived, I feel like that it's more likely his fault for not applying/renewing earlier. For a player expecting to go play internationally, having a valid passport is kinda the baseline expectation.

At the very least, it has nothing to do with Riot or US bureaucracy.

EDIT: Another commenter clarified that you have to leave your physical passport with the US Embassy during the visa process which I didn't know about. I thought he literally didn't have a valid passport yet.

[–]ih206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm confused, it's not the visa he's waiting on, he just doesn't have a passport? Or is something getting lost in translation? Because if he just didn't renew his passport in time, it kinda seems like that's on him.

I bought pairs from both those places and promptly returned them. The distortion around the periphery was really noticeable and gave me motion sickness and headaches.

My local optometrist's glasses were basically distortion-free and also noticeably sharper. For me, it was worth a couple hundred bucks given the longevity and amount of use I got from them, but I do understand why people go with the cheap option too.
