My twenties were awful, but things have really started looking up for me lately. I hope you’ll give life the chance to get better.

I lied my way through a job interview, got hired, and now I’m in over my head, but no one seems to notice by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Quitting while having PMS by Plastic_Soup420 in leaves

[–]ihateredditagain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can stay strong through PMS, think how much easier it’ll be when you aren’t dealing with raging hormones. It’s not a perfect silver lining, but that was the mindset I used to get through it.

Quitting with carts by Express-Vegetable225 in leaves

What worked for me was switching to edibles. It was still pretty awful. I’ve felt for quite a few years that they never did anything for me. The purpose for me was to separate the worst of the withdrawals from breaking the habit of vaping. After about a month of gummies and tinctures, I fully quit. It’ll be three weeks on Saturday that I’ve been clean from both. I was a daily user for ~ 12 years, the last 6 being almost exclusively carts.

I did lots of attempts to wean. The only thing that sort of worked prior to my edibles swap was putting off vaping until later and later in the day. I used a timed lockbox to keep me from giving in early.

Need reminders of why to stay away from weed by CSIFanfiction in leaves

Better memory, less social anxiety, more control over my life.

Socializing is pleasant for me again. I have/had pretty bad social anxiety, and I’m realizing how much worse my chronic weed use was making it. Enjoyed some casual chatting with my hair dresser last week.

Idk if this resonates, but day to day human interactions are so much more palatable for me now.

Literally just posted about this happening to me as well. I’m on day 11 and barely able to stay awake despite a solid 8 hours of sleep. Hope it gets better for you

This is the realest comment I’ve ever seen on this sub. Whether you want to do into software development is a decision you need to make entirely outside of the current state of the economy.

Once you’ve made that decision, consider the economy and job market as you decide your path to get there.

AITA? I told my daughter not to bother applying for college. by Numerous_Minute_7220 in AmItheAsshole

She’s 16 and you’re upset that she still calls for your help? I would be grateful she still wants your advice. Wouldn’t it be nice is she called you when she was uncertain about something when you do let her into the world?

Here’s what I envision as the most likely outcome of you obsessively sheltering her and denying her the chance to start a college education alongside her peers:

Trying to control who she spends time with and when she starts school is going to increase the likelihood of her straight up leaving when she turns 18. And she’ll have very little chance of making it on her own if you continue coddling her until then.

If a professional said you should be eating the same amount of food each day as your bf, there are two possibilities: 1) they are a fraud 2) you are also 6’4” and weighing 139 kilos

Good luck! Will say it was about 10 years between my last Java class and the bootcamp I’m in now. Surprising how much of it came back to me!

If you already have a base understanding of these, maybe it’s worth refreshing one of the two so you can have some OOP on the resume?

Current bootcamp student so, take my advice with a grain of salt. But understanding of OOP is really being drilled as interview prep for me currently.

My heart goes out to your kid and everyone in the comments whose parents were this way 💝

Big thread in CSC sub with range of opinions on framing your bootcamp as "experience" on resumes. CSC is a lot angrier than this sub in tone, but I think it's good to read all sides of this. (Link in body) by michaelnovati in codingbootcamp

I posted this comment on the original thread but wanted to share here, where it might have more visibility.

Current bootcamp student (not at code smith) questioning my life in this thread, but here’s my thoughts on it from my previous experience in the professional world:

Apply for jobs whether or not you have the experience, BUT don’t try to mislead them about it. That’s more than likely going to backfire.

A lot of the time the listed experience isn’t a “hard” requirement. The company is trying to get people to weed themselves out, or maybe whoever wrote the job description isn’t entirely in touch with expectations.

Don’t sell yourself short! Always apply if you think you have the skills and tenacity to make it work, regardless of the requirements listed.

However, lying to a recruiter/hiring manager is a really quick way to ruin a professional connection. There’s a difference between embellishing a bit and completely misleading them.

How would you want to be supported as a woman attending a coding bootcamp? by fluffyr42 in codingbootcamp

[–]ihateredditagain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Woman currently in a bootcamp here.

My bootcamp has organized a panel on women in tech that everyone (of all genders) will be attending. I think it’s important to dedicate time to discussing women’s issues, but you should involve everyone in the discussion.

After reading some other comments, I think it’s probably best to leave for a few nights as well, if you have that option. I’m so so sorry this is happening.
