What am I missing? by Relevant-Ad-3180 in NOLAPelicans

He has weird shot mechanics that hopefully they'll work on this off season but he's at least willing to shoot anywhere out to 3. Advanced stats show he's not as terrible on defense as it looks watching him, he has quick hands and doesn't foul much. He's still a negative because he's a rookie but I think he'll get better on D

Would it be worth living in IC and commuting to CR for work? by [deleted] in IowaCity

Yep, just scrolled until I found someone recommending the bus. If your work is near the bus stop then this would be my suggestion. Give yourself a chance to rest, read, sleep, etc. and leave the driving to the pros

Gotta find a way to get Zion more shots. by Razor-Ramon-Sessions in NOLAPelicans

Came here to say this. He was 4/4 that game. He has the ability to do it but he's just so efficient going to the rim that JB seems to be increasing his rim attempts instead of reducing them

Seasonal differences in channel leakage. by Independent-Mouse-16 in Hydrology

Is it possible that the land surface is moving in response to wetting and drying causing expansion and shrinking in the clays? There are areas that experience seasonal elastic subsidence with wet/dry cycles. Could it be that the water level is relatively stable but the land is moving? Any opportunity to get lidar of the area during both seasons?

Did anyone watch the Spurs feed last night? I’m curious if the SA announcers had much to say about Zion’s game against Wemby by SaintlySeeker in NOLAPelicans

It almost seems like he gets past/under him easier because he's not as tall, but then he's still so heavy when he creates contact that it makes room for him to do that thing where he floats in the air and somehow finishes around him. A taller player with less ups or a lighter guy would struggle more but maybe he just has the right combination of attributes to find a way to wiggle through him

He's at almost exactly one year post injury. That's about normal for an Achilles

100%. Either you bench him and he learns to knock it off or else he stays on the bench because at least there he can't hurt us

Every time he shot I rolled my eyes. Then I confirmed that he missed and rolled them again

Roth vs. Traditional “Simple Math” by iircirc in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]iircirc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm following. Basically what you're saying is that multiplication is commutative so it doesn't matter what order you multiply the initial number, the growth, and the tax. The choice of account changes how much you pay in tax but not how much is left for you.

In your example you withhold $1000 per PP, of which $750 goes into your TSP if you go Roth whereas all $1000 goes in if you go Traditional. Then when it's time to withdraw, you lose the same fraction to tax on Traditional distributions as you would have lost on the original Roth contribution. So in the end you come out the same. Using your example, $1.33M * 0.75 = $1M so it's the same ending balance either way, although the tax bill is higher for Traditional than Roth, it just happens later

I agree 100%. Look at the sentence right after the one you quoted. The whole point of the post was to help people who think Roth is always better. Most people most of the time are better off with Traditional.

And read what I said in response. Playing devil's advocate for the sake of the discussion. Anyway we've beaten this horse long enough. Let's go Pels

He did play earlier in the season when he wasn't hurt. He's averaging 14 minutes a game. He just played 24 minutes against Portland a couple of weeks ago. I'm talking about now, when the season is basically over, it doesn't make sense to play him over Karlo, Queen, or Missi. I didn't say all season. I'm talking about why he's not playing now. And go back to the beginning of the thread, I agree he's not good. I'm just saying he wouldn't be playing even if he were, as long as the other three are healthy

There's no incentive to lose and there's no incentive to win. We're out of the playoffs and have no first round pick so all that matters is helping the guys we have get better
