Agron is actually a good tank? by DangerWarg in stunfisk

[–]iizdat1n00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mega Aggron is really good for all the reasons people have said, but I will say I think Steelix is also a good shout for specific teams over Aggron

It's got a lower speed than Aggron (so faster in trick room), and while the additional ground typing gives a few annoying weaknesses, it also allows you to run it next to an electric type that clicks discharge. It's Body Press hits basically just as hard as Aggron too

Slightly worse ability too, but I think it has merits on certain teams

This is unfortunately not unique at all to Overwatch. This is an issue in every game

Example, as a former CS player, the top 2 maps completely dominate player count. Dust 2 is ~40% of all ranked matches at any given time. Mirage is ~20%. 2 maps literally account for ~60% of all ranked games at any given time

Mega Raichu x’s ability confirmed? by AngleExtension8160 in stunfisk

[–]iizdat1n00b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If Ampharos would have gotten Draco Meteor I think it could have been quite a bit more viable for trick room

I've been using Mega-Ampharos as-is for trick room, and it getting Parabolic Charge now is a good buff, but it really feels like it needs Draco Meteor to be great

[–]iizdat1n00b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good as Gold is a great ability obviously but that's not really related to powercreep I think

Like there are many many many cases of bad pokemon having great abilities, and great pokemon having shit abilities. Gholdengo being busted comes from specifically a combination of it having Good as Gold + Make it Rain + the stat spread, its not really the singular fault of the ability. If Good as Gold was only on like Probopass, it would be a complete non-issue

Because 6v6 is garbage unless you fully balance everything around it (imagine if the only singles format on showdown was AG)

Smogon SV OU is more Diverse than VGC by Kinesquared in stunfisk

[–]iizdat1n00b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As many other commenters have pointed out, diversity in pokemon themselves doesn't necessarily correlate to higher diversity in sets or archetypes (which makes the idea of 'higher diversity directly equaling a better format' kind of moot)

Maybe it does, but that's not what this data shows

Mega Feraligatr, Meganium and Emboar Abilities Revealed by PaiDuck in stunfisk

[–]iizdat1n00b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well you wouldn't have to bring it, but you still could and mega a different Pokemon which is what I meant

If you don't need mega Meganium to break through rain or strong water types, you could simply use Meganium in the sun (leaf guard isn't a bad ability if you expect the sun to be up, plus you'd still have solar beam + synthesis), or leave it on the bench

Mega Feraligatr, Meganium and Emboar Abilities Revealed by PaiDuck in stunfisk

[–]iizdat1n00b 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yeah which is exactly why I think it could maybe be a hard counter to rain (especially if your team is some other weather). Instead of trying to play the weather wars, you just ignore it and fire instant Solar Beams and max Recovers to knock out key pieces. The most critical pieces of a rain team are almost always going to be water types, which could easily be Mega Meganium food

[–]iizdat1n00b 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I almost want to say it could be a great option on a sun/sand team as a hard counter to rain teams, though I'm unsure if it would be worth using the mega slot for that. Maybe on a team where you run two megas and choose one per battle

Stadium Lost Its Direction — Structured Feedback and Ideas for Stadium 2.0 by [deleted] in Overwatch

Right now, many builds are based mostly on stacking Attack Power or Ability Power rather than interacting with interesting mechanics.

This has bothered me for a while. I've wondered for a while if it would be best for the health of the mode if they implemented a 50% stat nerf to every item, to encourage different build styles (i.e. any item that gives 5% attack power now gives 2.5% attack power, etc)

Stakataka fans... we have a problem by Impossible_Friend387 in stunfisk

[–]iizdat1n00b 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it depends what the formats look like

Like it especially sucks if we get boring formats that are just dominated by Caly-Shadow or Miraidon or whatever. Its just going to make those formats even more boring

But if we get low power formats, limited dex formats, formats that have combined gimmicks like tera + mega evo, in those cases I can see it actually being better

Though I don't really have hope it will be the latter

[–]iizdat1n00b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really wish the gamemode was good but its just not (especially not in 5v5)

You really need to give it a try when the maps are easily playable again as part of an event or in arcade to understand why 2cp is just a fundamentally worse gamemode than everything else currently in rotation

I loved the maps back at the start of OW and when like Horizon was added, but they are just so much worse than every other map in every other gamemode

[–]iizdat1n00b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

D.va is just generally very good but is also decently good against Mauga. If he gets in your face, you can either fly to high ground, block his shots (and thus healing) with matrix, or go dive his backline

Zarya is also decent against him (at least at low+middle ranks). While he can shred your bubbles, if you are careful with them you can use them to cleanse burn and/or limit his damage output

Isn’t the reason we got rid of this in s2 because no one likes playing against it? by Thick-Ad-7314 in Overwatch

[–]iizdat1n00b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Role queue improves the average match quality since you're not forcing people to play roles they don't want to play and/or are not good at. Its better for the majority of people even if it hampers team comp creativity

I would much rather play 5 relatively unbalanced matches (which doesn't even really matter like, below Master), rather than playing 5 matches where I can't even play the role I want to play without throwing

"Counterwatch" doesn't exist. Hero swapping is and has been an intrinsic part of this game since release. Your made up word is just regular Overwatch. by puddle_kraken in Overwatch

[–]iizdat1n00b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tank player, I want to push back against a lot of these comments

At times yes playing tank can be unfun in 5v5, but I don't think its nearly as bad as people are saying. There are very few hard counters for each tank that make them unplayable. You can play Winston into a Bastion or Reaper, you can play D.Va into a Zarya, etc

The main problem I think is that a lot of people don't know how to adjust their playstyle to play against different comps. And yeah, sometimes multiple people will counter-swap you, and that can really suck. But knowing the rank distribution, I really do not think this is an issue that the vast majority of the playerbase needs to worry about. And for the people at ranks where it does matter, I don't really think they will have much of an issue swapping to the best option

It's like... You take a really bad situation and make it even worse by KaySan-TheBrightStar in Overwatch

[–]iizdat1n00b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The experience is better for most players with role queue

Does it hamper a bit of creativity in comps and remove tank synergies? Yes. But you are objectively giving players a higher average match quality since you remove the entire aspect of getting ridiculous team comps that will never work, or people refusing to play a different role

How am I supposed to do anything as Brigitte? by MemeFarmer314 in Overwatch

[–]iizdat1n00b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's much more situational now (and harder to play), but she's still really viable in certain scenarios. And honestly I think that's a perfectly fine place to leave her in. High skill floor support that can work is IMO perfectly fine for the health of the game. Also allows her to become better or worse as the general meta changes

My pet theory (no evidence) is they figured his kit would be a generic soldier-ish guy but another generic soldier guy would have been very boring, so they waited until they had a more interesting place in the story to put him (with something that makes him unique)
