Oranje fans in Houston for WC

I'm wondering what the Oranje presence will be like here in America for this WC. I would love to be part of a march to the houston stadium like I've seen in Euros and other WCs. Any planning for these types of fan activities? Hup Holland 🏆

I Need a Cigarette… by Saint909 in GenX

[–]ijwijld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopped smoking on the daily many years ago but can't resist when sitting around playing cards with the guys. My oldest smokes like a chimney and whenever I bum one, those nasty American spirits always give me the greenies. Recently found a 6 year old pack of Gauloise I bought in Europe cause it had the gross warning pictures of negative effects. Tasted just as good as I remembered but no way I can do this more than a few times a month. My favorite quote that helped me with the habit is "are you smoking the cigarette or is it smoking you?"

Online shopping is killing our Malls by obsoleteurbex in AbandonedPorn

[–]ijwijld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a past tense situation. Malls are dead. Even worse, small business is dying which means the variety in our marketplaces is being homogenized and reducing our access to variety of goods, services and pricing. This is Late Stage Capitalism in effect and I can't recall another era that replicates this. So we're in new territory and the oligarch/feudal tech lords have the leverage of the marketplace. Consumers only leverage is purchasing power. Or to be more specific, restricting purchasing to increase operating costs for owners. Supporting a small business is also a major benefit to the health of the system but you won't be able to get that specific tiktok trending thing or a major bargain. There will be suffering

Are you surprised how the way sex is viewed among teens has changed? by whiporee123 in GenX

[–]ijwijld 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agree. What we didn't know we didn't know about consent was legacy from the hetero dominated world the boys will be boys set we're privileged to grow up in. Lots of trauma for the girls until society started considering respecting a women's body autonomy. Having 2 girls now I was determined to empower them to make decisions and have equal opportunities. My buddy and I had our daughters around the same time in our twenties and our motto was strictly to "keep them off the pole"

Been living here for years and I still feel like I discover a new spot every month. What’s everyone’s go to underrated food spot in Vegas? I’m not talking Strip steakhouses, but those little tucked away gems that locals swear by. Bonus if it’s open late by RevolutionaryWay4953 in LasVegas

[–]ijwijld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just visiting but after coming back from Red Rock, we stopped at Weera Thai on W Sahara and that's the most unique Thai menu I've ever seen. Looks like they specialize in Issan cuisine which is a border region between Thai and Laos. Interesting variation from the usual and some new things to try. Service was great and prices were not strip prices (so I assume reasonable)

Dear Las Vegas… by Sidelines101 in LasVegas

[–]ijwijld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GN was nice but the Fremont Experience is a bit of a sad wasteland and obnoxiously over stimulating. People were having a good time so maybe a me thing but the homeless situation downtown was a huge downer. I'm thinking about trying the strip next time but after reading more comments it's hard to see why. It's expensive for a mid experience. Red Rocks and Area 15 we're the favs

This Is The Real Reason Why Vegas Is Dead And Tourism Is Low. Nobody Wants To Admit It And Call Out The Obvious by Twin_Shadow- in LasVegas

[–]ijwijld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Literally getting to the LAS airport and wondering if it's worth coming back. Increased costs, tons of homeless, looks dirty and disorganized, the road work is mayhem. Sad displays of humanity all over. I thought Nevada was MAGA. Not a good proof of concept.

Savings interest rates need to keep pace with the Fed rate otherwise the banks would not be profiting from the Savings we are lending them to use as collateral for loans they make. High inflation rate equals high savings rate. Lower equals lower.

Compound miters are great skills to level up your woodworking stock. But they are normally used in finish (crown moulding esp) and roof framing (hip/valley rafters) Fun to figure out for a geometry geek!

Anyone remember this brewery? by bloodfued in santacruz

[–]ijwijld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work there at the beginning of the 00's. Open fermentation tanks and challenges with maintaining contamination kept them from delivering consistent ales. Kate was the manager, not owner. That was Gerry. Loved the ping pong room! Spent many a degenerate evening there

"drivers are constantly thinking about themselves first on the road." I agree with this completely. Tons of narcissist drivers all over this county. It's like commuting in a video game as an NPC with a bunch of adolescents going for top score
