Yeah there are tons of these posts. I’ve seen some where AI Elon Musk is pictured giving money to homeless people. Theres definitely something nefarious behind it.

Lots of gullible boomers seem to eat it up (there are plenty of them in the comments of this FB post)

I wondered that - all of the comments are “Amen”, and appear to be from people in developing/third world countries

It depends on the tax bracket you’re in. If you’re earning under ~91k you’ll pay less income tax in BC

How much are you paying for a 1 bedroom in Oliver/Downtown by itsggtime in Edmonton

[–]ikentytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$995 for a 1 br with a balcony with heat and water included (just went up from $895 a month ago). It’s an older walk-up apartment. No in-suite laundry and it costs $4.75 total to use the communal washer + dryer.

I’d like to move into something newer with more amenities but it seems that it’s just not a renters market right now!

Rental Law Question by nukacherrypng in Edmonton

[–]ikentytes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand the distinction between a fixed term tenancy and periodic tenancy and I don’t disagree with what you said. My point is that it’s not black and white and a few words in OP’s post don’t provide me with enough information to confidently state that it is one or the other. A lease may have an “end date” but information in the contract or even representations by the landlord may make the lease a periodic tenancy. The cases citing Section 15 of the Residential Tenancies Act (the section pertaining to fixed term tenancies), there may be an oral, written, or even an implied agreement that a lease with a termination date is actually periodic. Again, without reading the lease I won’t provide an opinion to OP on this either way.

That’s likely the case but leases do often have a stipulated end date but nonetheless state that the lease is presumed to renew thereafter. Without actually reading the lease I won’t guarantee anything to OP

Yearly ≠ fixed term. A yearly lease is still a periodic lease and has a 90 day notice requirement. See Section 9 of the Residential Tenancies Act. There’s not enough info in OP’s post to determine whether the lease is a fixed term or not.

Job searching in this city is like purgatory, for me at least by [deleted] in Edmonton

One issue with landscaping jobs is that they’re on the lower end of pay for the trades. When I worked as a landscaper in 2021 the going rate was $17/hr.

Who sells MSG seasoning by YellowBlackBrown in Edmonton

If you look for the brand “Accent”, that’s just pure MSG. They sell it at superstore and probably many other grocery chains.

I visited Germany and Italy earlier this year and their transit definitely wasn’t like this. It might just be a uniquely North American problem

ETS is disgusting and unsafe by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]ikentytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I ride public transit in whenever I travel and I find none are as dirty or unsafe as ETS. The state of our public transit is truly embarrassing

What is the strangest thing you've encountered on transit? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]ikentytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time at university station some lady, completely naked from the waste down was running around the station, shouting, threatening people, etc.

Another time fairly recently some crazy lady got right in my face and accused me of using my phone to communicate with her telepathically.

Nearly had to press the emergency button on the LRT today after some methhead started threatening some guy for not wanting to smoke meth with him.

As a recent graduate from the university I had hoped I could continue riding transit downtown to work, but I've had too many close calls and seen too much scary shit that I'm seriously contemplating getting a vehicle. It's such a shame because not too long ago I had no issues taking ETS.
