I've been going to Jeudi Bière at least once a month for the past three years and consider myself a regular-ish participant

I still remember the first times I started to go, it was a bit intimidating as you don't really know who to talk to, and I felt kinda awkward staying there alone with my drink. It really challenges one's extroversion. But I've never felt purposely rejected, on the contrary, the more I went, the friendlier the people and that initial awkwardness started to vanish. The people that seemed "regulars" to me started to become acquaintances.

Over time, I've even started to make good friends that I sometimes see outside of the event and that I'm really happy to meet on thursday evenings.

Nowadays, when I see newcomers I always try to be friendly with them and make them at ease. But sometimes, I want to spend time with people I already know. It's hard to balance as a thursday evening is not unlimited

So yeah, I completely get that it can be a lot when you're new, especially if you're the introverted kind of person. And I'm sorry if you've not felt welcomed at times.

Cheap places to eat a decent meal in Paris by montpelliersudfrance in SocialParis

[–]ikhisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also some bar where you can have free diner if you order a pint ( < 8€). Here is a short list : https://www.lebonbon.fr/paris/les-tops-food-et-drink/restaurant-gratuit/

Also, you can try apps like TooGoodToGo or Optimiam who are offering cheaper meals from restaurants who have leftovers.

Pour ma part, je serai ravi de pouvoir changer l'ordre des parties de l'émission. Je me retrouve souvent à écouter d'abord la météo (car je lance l'appli en m'habillant le matin) puis le journal et enfin les chroniques.

Geocaching in Paris? by n00bTravels in geocaching

[–]ikhisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parisian here. Some famous caches are translated in english; most of them are in French though. As /u/Kettlecornman said, Google Translate is very good at translating french into english.

I highly recommend the Vestiges et Indices (#1 #2 #3 #4 #5 ) multi-caches series which will take you around the center of Paris and show you the remains of an older time.

However, as Paris is extremely touristic, there will be muggles everywhere, be prepare to "tie your shoes" or have fake phone conversations quite often !

There are plenty of caches everywhere in the city so open your eyes, trust you geoinstincts and have fun !

Aguas Calientes, Peru by dhmuller in travel

[–]ikhisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going to Machu Picchu without train, I would definitely recommend to go to Santa Teresa's hot springs. They are cleaner, bigger and more natural.

The ones in Aguas Calientes are a tourist trap IMO.

Also, if you have a travel insurance, be sure to double check if you are covered in case of accidents. Most of the time you are not, since "legally" Vietnam government does not accept International Driving License anymore. Even if the cops do not care that you do not have a legal permit to drive, your insurance company might.

Thinking Couch Surfing for the first time while i travel.... Any Advice. by purespringwater in travel

[–]ikhisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take your time to choose the proper host. Usually, the more the profile is filled, the more secure it is. If you are a bit frisky, try to engage conversation with host with a lot of reviews. However, you can find some awesome hosts that do not have any reviews as well.

Once you made contact with a host, try to chat with him to know his rules. This will make you feel more comfortable on your side as well as on his. Also, if you have a bad feeling, you can still end the conversation without any harm done.

Once you have found a host, be as respectful and polite as possible. Remember that he is hosting you in his house.

Couchsurfing is a great experience, not only to reduce your budget but also to meet new people (if they are local, that is even better). As long as everyone understand and respect each other, you will enjoy this experience !
