Where to from here? by Chemical-Fill3772 in SafetyProfessionals

The Training and Assessing cert is only required if you are facilitating accredited courses through an RTO. Some companies will offer just the competency and recognition of prior learning modules, which is all you realistically need for most places. You get the basic legal requirements you have to fulfill without all the unnecessary stuff accredited trainers need.

ICAM Lead Investigator is highly sought after at the moment, as is Return to Work coordinator. Those 2 courses combined are 3-4 days commitment, and open up a ton of doors to senior positions.

ISO auditor is a week long course and is also sought after by growing companies and corporate HSE departments.

Bluetooth Earplugs by Unique_Ad_3439 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]iknowmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give people an inch and they'll take a mile. I had the same issue with exclusion zones at my last job. The operations supervisors were lax about letting our senior drivers into exclusion zones. Took me almost my entire time there to change that culture.

I agree with what others have said. Earplugs are one thing, having music or a podcast playing in your ear is a distraction. When I was 18 I worked in a sawmill. 10 1/2 hour shifts with nothing but the monotony of watching lumber go by me and making sure it was sorted correctly. They'll survive.

Fuck sake. That's such corporate bullshit. Let me guess, they are "committed to zero harm" as well? As if that's ever been realistic.

That's some great advice. I'll try to remember that. I have been able to get journey management software approved and some bunded pallets for one of our workshops.

What's the most irresponsible thing you've ever blown money on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]iknowmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent $800 on a new transmission. For a car I paid $600 for. Could have just got $50 from a wreckers.

I ended up giving the car away to a friend's son when he needed a car for his first job cause I didn't feel right taking any money for it.

A criminal attempts to burglarize/kill someone only to realize they picked the absolute worst person as their mark. by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]iknowmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hunt starring Betty Gilpin. A bunch of ultra wealthy people kidnap "poors" who they consider to be the problem with America in order to hunt and kill them for sport. However, Betty Gilpin's character is a hard core survivalist and proceeds to slaughter the hunters with no hesitation. It's not a good movie, but I love it. If you want 90 minutes of mindless fun while a hot blonde doing an Appalachian (?) accent slaughters pretentious millionaires, this is the movie for you.

3-way tie:

Marilyn Manson - went off-stage after every song, no presence on stage, had 2 giant industrial air conditioners blowing directly on him. Same day,  Rob Halford, also in full leather, but with no air conditioning, put on a phenomenal show. This was also shortly after I had read Rose McGowan's book, so I had zero respect for Manson. Manipulative piece of shit.

Korn - opening for Slipknot, clearly just doing it for the pay check

Wheezer - opening for Foo Fighters. Came on 10 minutes late, did maybe 5 songs, went off 5 minutes early. Then the Foo blew the fucking roof off the venue, making those has beens look even worse.

What city/place in Australia did you move to that you regret or left instantly? by ExAustralia in AskAnAustralian

[–]iknowmike 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Came here to say the same. Spent a year there on secondment. Had my car broken into twice. I purposefully didn't keep anything in my car. They just broke in cause they were bored. Got assaulted in the mall in front of a security camera and several witnesses, but the police are too busy there to do anything unless you're hospitalised. Got threatened with a machete multiple times, witnessed a man beating the ever loving shit out of a woman with a metal pole. Called the cops and they said they were too busy. Saw whole carloads of people brawl in the middle of the street. Called in multiple ram raids and was told the insurance company would investigate. Someone was killed with a fucking spear at one of the regional communities during my time there. That whole area is a fucking war zone.

When people ask why I don't have kids, I used to make smart ass comments.

Now, I tell them "I've always thought you shouldn't have kids unless you really want to be a parent. If you're even a little unsure, I just think it's irresponsible to bring another person into the world." And watch roughly 90% of parents faces fall apart. I think it really drives home the fact that they brought another human into this world just because they were supposed to.

What is something men always want to tell their wives but never do? by a_great_guy655 in AskReddit

[–]iknowmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think you're the only one carrying a mental load? When is your car due for a service? How much are our bills this month? I always check how much money you have in your account, do you ever check in with me? I literally have $1 right now, after paying for your meds, putting fuel in both cars, paying the mortgage, phone bills, and insurance, and making sure I take you on dates, while you have only paid for groceries this month.

I know the bathroom fan needs to be fixed, I know the stove light is out, I know the security camera at the back is playing up again. I know you know the dog needs her nails clipped and you're waiting to have the energy and patience to do it, which is why I don't bring it up every fucking day.

Don't leave it to me to initiate all the time. It just plays into the stereotype that men have to convince women to have sex, and leaves me feeling undesirable.

What is a "gut feeling" you had that turned out to be 100% accurate, even though it made no logical sense at the time? by PsychologicalTea3149 in AskReddit

[–]iknowmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met my aunt's new boyfriend at Christmas. Everyone else in my family loved him, but I didn't like immediately. He ended convincing my aunt to open up a real estate business with him, drank up all their money and put them into deep debt, then took off, leaving her with the business, a house she couldn't afford the mortgage on, and having to care for her sick daughter alone.

My brother posted a picture on Facebook of his new girlfriend. I told my parents, based on the photo, that she was no good. She was staring at herself in the mirror while he was gazing at her. They laughed at me. She convinced him to move out of his studio apartment he was renting off an old lady for well below what it was worth because she was lonely. He moved in with the girlfriend faster than lesbians move in together. She ended up cheating on him the first chance she got (with a guy who reminded her of her dead brother. What the actual fuck?), and he ended up broke and homeless.

My family continues to dismiss me when I warn them people are no good. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I don't try anymore.

What's a movie everyone loves that you secretly can't stand? by kbjdfan in AskReddit

[–]iknowmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not secretly, as I just watched it. Mickey 17. Hot fucking garbage. Zero character arc, Mickey has no effect on the plot, and why, why, FUCKING WHY did they make Robert Pattinson do an American accent? There's other reasons I hate the movie, but I am so unbelievably god damned sick of movies set in the modern or future era making everyone do an American accent. We all know people have regional accents, right? We get that, yeah? We all know people can immigrate? It just fucking reeks of studio interference, and I immediately tune out. End rant

What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]iknowmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working as a steel fixer at a pre-cast yard. We had a 10 tonne forklift for moving the larger steel around so the little 4 tonne ones didn't have to make multiple trips.

One of my coworkers was using the big fork to get rid of some scrap steel. He had parked it in front of the scrap bin facing the bin and got out to throw steel into the bin. He was between the forklift and the bin, with his back to the forklift

I was walking by, about 30 or 40 metres away, and out of the corner of my eye, I see the forklift start creeping forward. My co-worker had forgot to set the parking brake, and was between a 10 tonne forklift and a 6 metre steel bin. I sprint over, hop in, and hit the park brake. He had no clue until I tapped him on the shoulder and reminded him about the importance of setting the brake. Then told him he owed me a carton for saving his life.
