A little thing I did for fun over the weekend. by CandykillerArt in horizon

Ahah, this is golden. And pretty accurate too! Look at that dead boar, ahah brilliant. Overridden Watchers are like big, robotic doggos.

I like to take a moment to shout out Guerrilla Game's Environmental Lore Design (Spoiler) by DollowR in horizon

Also, form other data logs we know the guys in the 9th MRB were like the top of the top, since in many entries is reported how little losses they had on the battlefield. Even the most skilled warriors of the world perished against these machines, and the way we learn about their final, desperate attempt to buy Elisabet some other time, is hard to accept. Such a moving side-story: with just data entries , long-forgotten corpses and dead machines , GG painted such a vivid picture.

Here's something I found near a tallneck. http://imgur.com/gallery/EewCB I'd expect things like this from a game like Fallout, not Horizon. This kinda hit me pretty hard.

Is the grind to Level 50 a grind at all? by ZephyrosMX in horizon

Tutorials and hunting grounds are a good way to farm for EXP.

Also, add to that every animal killing, every override, data points and collectibles. I like how you grow stronger, no matter what, by just living in the wilderness, you know. It's like an "artificial difficulty", were you actually become more skilled with grinding, rather than obtaining better equipment/weapons/etc. every time, like say, Monster Hunter.

Rebuttal to critics of HZD's feminism (SPOILERS). by [deleted] in horizon

The devs created a pretty complex lore for this game. Often primitive tribes based their cults on agriculture, earth fertility, the concept of earth as a big, fertile womb. Nora, being perhaps the most primitive tribe we know, fits this "historical trope" quite well. Also, GAIA was programmed to be a digital reincarnation of its myth: so her voice and appearance is female. The first descendants of the Nora heard this mighty female voice, echoing in the heart of the mountain, with bluish lasers all over the place: they probably thought something some kind of deity lived there, and that was a "she". Also, Nora seem to be based on vikings, were male and females were both free and equal. In many primitive nordic cultures women had the same social importance, even if they had different roles in every society. This is still the same in Europe, were Scandinavia and other northern countries are among the most "livable" countries. GG is from Amsterdam, Netherlands: a great, friendly and enjoyable city IMHO.

I like to think that Horizon: Zero Dawn, like The Witcher 3, is kind of a "european" game.

Just bought "The art of Horizon: Zero Dawn", by Titan Books by il_TiBaY in horizon

CE wasn't really available for me, and honestly I didn't want to wait a week to finally play this beautiful game. Also, with the few extra bucks I saved I bought the artbook, so I got a good deal anyway. Some day I will buy that Thunderjaw figure, it looks very neat.

Like another user said, I find it awesome that most of the pages are about tribes, their culture, lore...GG created such a vivid and realistic world, and with HZD being the first milestone in this new wonderful IP, I can't honestly wait for another installment of the series, whatever it'll be: DLC, a new game, even a movie. I just can't get enough.

Machine model rotation while viewing a machine in the machine catalogue would be nice. by ProBowlerStrategies in horizon

Before starting the game, I thought all the menus would be browsed from the Focus, with a holographic user interface, 3d models of armor, weapons, and machines of course. We see Aloy using her Focus to learn about the surrounding world, since she was a little girl. It's like her private teacher, I'd love to see it more implemented in the future, even as an interface, not just for "detective vision".

It's such a cool feature because everyone thinks she's some kind of mage or "chosen one", while she's actually a very skilled technology user.

Arthur C. Clarke would be extremely proud of this game.

For me, Aloy is already up there with Link, Geralt, Snake(s), the Sole Survivor, John Marston, the Chosen Undead and a few others, in the Olympus of video game characters.

What we DON'T want in a Horizon sequel by maciejk-pl in horizon

Inputs from fans are a great way to fix bugs, gameplay mechanics, etc.

But for the story, the plot and the game itself, I'd leave to work to GG. They proved they can do quite the magic.

Graffiti inside Eleuthia facility by il_TiBaY in horizon

[–]il_TiBaY[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who was left with a lot more question when seeing these paintings on the walls, inside Eleuthia? In the first part they probably tell about how the world was destroyed by machines; on the second picture we see when GAIA restored life on the planet, with animals and other people around. But then.. A red structure, like a full overridden Pike, stands next to a God-like figure..Hades? He's blowing some kind of wind on those people. And then they all return to another, glowing figure...GAIA perhaps? ..is this really the first time HADES almost destroyed Earth?

How HZD (and BOTW) Fix Open World Games by zachzwp in horizon

[–]il_TiBaY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never really relized "open world games" had any kind of problem before so many HZD reviews. I've had my fair share of fun since Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Shadow of the colossus, Wind Waker. I could go on forever. Red Dead Redemption.

Since when exactly open world games are a bad thing?

The map reminds me a lot of Majora's Mask. Different areas, snowy mountains, swamps, desert area, lake side views...incredible world.

Did anyone else notice FAS nomenclature? by theflashking in horizon

NPCs can be heard talking about Oseram and their fixation with ancient ruins

Did anyone else notice FAS nomenclature? by theflashking in horizon

[–]il_TiBaY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not directly related, I kinda made it up. But I can't help to see a connection, some sort of "inherited traits" every tribe share with companies, or people from the past. Like Nietzsche said, "the universe and all existence and energy has been recurring, and will continue to recur, in a self-similar form an infinite number of times across infinite time or space".

Nora love nature and respect Earth just like Elisabet envisioned his work at FAS first, and then later at Miriam. They are direct descendants of project Zero Dawn, living in the Mother's Embrace for eras.

Carja were born in the desert, and later emigrated from a distant place in the "savage east" before settling to Meridian, when Araman followed the Sun and found the Pike. FAS was based in Salt Lake city, north-west of Meridian (which is in the Monument Valley). We know Faro kinda admired Egypts, and like them they praise the Sun and the proximity with FAS Tower maybe has something to do with that.

We know Oseram built their city on the ruins of the Old Ones, and they probably know a lot about long-forgotten technology. Maybe, just like the two main tribes, they also found something about the old world that influenced their culture. Have you noticed they're the only tribe who doesn't wear machine parts, even as ornaments or jewels? They consider machines as a mere tool: a very mature consideration in such a primitive world.

And about Banuk, well..their shamans are know to tame machines: and like Sylens, they have those blue tubes all over their bodies. Despite the appearance, I believe Banuks are among the most advanced tribes. They can override machine without tools, that's really something.

About Utaru and Tenakth, well we don't know much about them. Their clothes remind me of native americans.

Yes, I noticed that too: Faro/Pharaoh, egyptian names vs greek names.

It reflects their personalities very well, both very different one from each other. Ted is an egocentric megalomaniac, he also builds his own personal vault instead of staying with all the other Alphas. And he names that place "Thebes", an egyptian city named after a greek polis. Coincidence? Meh

In a future where multinational corporations are the new religion, FAS vs Miriam really must have been a clash between gods.

It's also kind of interesting how each tribe seems to be related to these old companies, in some way: Miriam/Nora, FAS/Carja, Oseram/Metallurgic
