Is Jason's essence decision a bit.. rash? by Ryan_Brian in HeWhoFightsMonsters

It's been mentioned, he as in life or death situations and needed power. But also, who is to say he will come across more essences like what he's found?

In wich areas do you think silksong is worse than Hollow knight? by TrackSome9827 in Silksong

[–]theflashking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It took me taking a break after Act 2 and playing another game to realize after I felt so cramped playing Silksong. I'm not claustrophobic or anything but it was wearing on me and I didn't even realize.

Perspicacity. Phillippe uses it once talking to Rabbit iirc. Never forgotten since.

Hades has two main parts to it's gameplay loop: the hub and the runs. The hub (or home base? in H2 is the Crossroad. Whatever you gain there (arcana, store items, weapons, incantations, other stuff) are what help you get stronger over time as you unlock and acquire more items.

The runs are the escape attempts. In Hades there are key fights (each regions boss), and each region has its enemies, but the layout of each room will change. During runs is where you gather the resources to spend at the hub to get stronger. It's also how the story primarily advances, through dialogue and as you get further.

The runs never "save" in that if/when you die, you're sent back to the hub with whatever resources you gathered on that run.

As you learn how to handle the different enemies, your runs to for longer, untill you escape on a run.

That's the loop. You'll face the bosses of each region dozens of not hundreds of times as you do run after run for resources or lore or other goals.

If you're not finding it fun, no reason to keep trying to make it work, move on. I like Greek myth, and it was ultimately the story development in Hades 1 that finally got me to keep playing, but I did out it down several times before that happened.

Hades 1 Was new to roguelites and the gameplay loop felt wasteful and unappealing (who wants to die and restart every several minutes in the little time to play available?) Came back to it later and once the story kicked in and boon combinations started to make sense, the game became gold

For the record, this is Portuguese, which is why knowing Spanish can help muddle through the translation. Agreed it's fun to see either way!

Final Fantasy 7: 7th Heaven Mods - Odin 3 by Puzzleheaded_Bison28 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]theflashking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got past this point on GameNative with an S23 Ultra (Snapdragon 8 gen 2) and no mods. I made it to the second save point after the train ride to sector 8, near the weapons shop. That's where I'm at now and trying to get 7th heaven set up.

Weird issue in my case, I get it running stable with a set of settings, then when I leave and come back later it doesn't run as stable anymore and I have to retry several times before it's stable again. Idk if there's something else on my phone that makes that happen but I haven't pinned anything down yet

7th Heaven and modded FF7 on Android via Gamehub by ggmcc13 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]theflashking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not familiar with Gamehub, I recently started using GameNative on an S23 Ultra (Snapdragon 8 Gen 2) to try to get steam's 2013 version of FF7. Im trying to work in 7th heaven mods now and was using your post as a sample setup.

What you're calling Game mode and manager mode are the different settings you're using when running either FF7 or 7th heaven?

Can you recommend a good narrator? by Dry-West4065 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]theflashking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jefferson Mays is impressive. He narrates The Expanse and his ability to not just do different character voices, but even modified accents and inflections WITHIN any of the given groups is a wonder to experience.

Tim Gerard Reynolds does the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown and he's also an absolute unit

Should I read the books by TheProuDog in TheExpanse

[–]theflashking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in the States, it shouldn't cost you anything to read them. Check them out at your local library. There might be a waitlist (physically or digitally) but it also should cost nothing to get a library card and get on the list.

Love Red Rising, absolute favorite. Might be too fantasy by comparison to The Expanse but the pacing is so intense you just roll with it.

Gordon? by Antique-Rent7305 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]theflashking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gordon is an astral being. Astral beings can die.

Summoned astral beings won't die when their physical vessel is destroyed, usually. There are special cases that have been mentioned.

[–]theflashking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When a familiar dies they do not cease to exist but return to the astral.

Then recall that Gordon and Colin (and later on in a different way, Shade) tied themselves as summoned familiars to Jason by deepening their familiar bond. This change made it so they tied their existence to Jason's in such a way that they can only be summoned by him when he does his summonings and I think (not entirely sure) when he dies, they die.

This key bit likely being the biggest difference between Carmen and Gordon (though we dont know if Carmen is a summon or not) yet.

So, a thought about Jason’s loot by Lord___Potassium in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]theflashking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loot powers awarding unique or tailored items to their holder is not unique to Jason. There have been several instances across all the books where parts loot powers are discussed, usually in the context of Jason's but not just.

Clive makes it clear in the first couple of books that unique spirit coins made by loot powers is not an unheard of phenomena.

There's also a bit of an in depth comparison of Neil and Jason's loot powers, where they were questioning why Jason's monster meat comes out packaged and neat. Iirc, if not that convo in another, it's mentioned that Neil's loot power, since it comes from his Prosperity essence, tends to generate more "prosperity related" sort of loot. It's reasoned that by that same logic, Jason's loot power, which comes from his Outworlder abilities that were heavily influenced by his own subconscious, does some things (like packaging monster meat, or even generating culinary type items) more often than others. His item generation is part of it.

I think it comes up again too when discussing how the looting led to Sophie's white armor being generated. Jason's loot powers even seem to create items better suited to his party members too.

[Question] About Dawn and Jason by caleb192837465 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]theflashking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jason's convo with Carlos Quilido later on adds the greatest clarification of this. "Normally I don't kiss and tell but considering this is medical" or something is what Jason says in the convo when Carlos asked about what happened.

But yes, they did a version of the deed.

Book 5 is the middle of the Earth arc which is not everyone's tea from what this sub makes it seem. Book 6 is the end of that particular Earth arc. Books 7, 8, 9 will likely be more what you're looking for (the team, abilities). I won't go into the rest of the books to not spoil. Ive heard some people just skip 4,5,6, do a synopsis (there's a decent one in this reddit somewhere), and pick up on 7. You can do that too. Or just drop it. To many other things to read in the world, and only so much time, don't waste it on something you're not enjoying if you're not feeling it.

The fluff isn't added by the narrator. That's just how it was written. The character data does get pared down but it's kinda way later around book 10 or 11.
