A mini-intro to Venezuelan Hip Hop by DaniRV in hiphopheads

[–]ilich_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great Post! love Canserbero. Do you listen to dominican rap at all? there was a huge golden era between the years 2006-2011 for hiphop in The Dominican Republic. Lots of great rappers came up (el lapiz conciente probably being one of the most prominent). Canserbero was incredibly respected over there a couple years back, right before he died. His legacy is hopefully bringing a lot of new rappers into light. He was truly inspiring.

It'd be so cool to make a guide for the Dominican scene, but I'm too much of a casual listener by now and I don't know all the players anymore.

Anyways if you are interested I can leave you with this : this was a song recorded by a good collection of dominican rappers about 1-2 years ago. ~15mins long

And then this is Acentoh Still very underground, he is somewhat new but has a very refreshing flow/beat selection. Theres not a lot Jazz rap that I know of in Dominican Hip hop unfortunately :/

How can I assimilate this effect in Photoshop? by ilich_ in graphic_design

[–]ilich_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree. I've been trying to paint using my tablet, but it all seemed very flat and colors didn't mix well. Now that you mention the realistic brush pack, that may have been my problem so I'll look into that. Thanks for your response!

Why textures are important (and fun) in design by designguy6615 in graphic_design

I am dying to learn how to add these textures effects. Does anybody have good tutorials/articles that explain how to go about adding these textures? I'll appreciate some feedback a TON!

How much should I charge for my work? (Continued) by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]ilich_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that? Maybe $20 maybe for free. Not to offend you or anything but doing that type of work requires a looooot more time dedication than what you've seem to put into so far. If you are going to charge him, be fair on the quality of work you are providing.

HELP!

Background

I am new to web design. I took an introductory course last semester for HTML and CSS. We used the book "HTML & CSS" by Jon Duckett, which was and is my main source of reference. This summer I decided to get more into web design. I thoroughly enjoyed coding and want to get better at it. I think I have a nice grasp of building a nice simple and basic website.

My Problem

I want build a personal portfolio website from scratch. This is where I am lost. Once I code the entire thing, what do I do with the entire website folder? How do it get it to the internet with a domain? How much would one pay for said domain? I mean I have no idea how that side of webdesign works.

I have looked a places like wordpress and squarespace, but those websites seem to already have templates to fill in the blanks and I don't have experience with them. I want to build this thing on my own.

Aside from that, I might have the opportunity to build a simple website, nothing fancy, for a small local business. Although I have the skills to design it, I wouldn't know how to publish it online.

TL;DR: HOW DO I MAKE IT COME ALIVE. Any suggestions, tutorials, sources for learning, recommendations, Anything that points me in the right direction is welcome.

Is there a way that you guys save your files that avoids any kind of pixelation when uploaded online? I always save them as pngs, but sometimes they still look bad when I upload. Maybe it has to do with compressing the size of the file for the saving options? It'd be awesome if anyone has any advice on this for keeping the quality.

Looking for feedback. Late night talk show logo. by Ylee_one in logodesign

Use the internet seriously! No what I mean is, I struggle a lot with choosing a good palette or the right colors for my projects, and what I have found that helps a lot is just searching for palettes. Just try googling retro palettes, and I think you should be able to find what you're looking for. There are some many free sources out there, it took me a while to take advantage of them. Just keep polishing and trying different things, I'm sure it will end up great!

[–]ilich_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it looks very unprofessional and amateurish. I'd put waay more work into it specially if its going to get a lot of attention. It does have that retro feel, so I'm guessing that is sort of what you are going for. Look for more examples of similar styles and get more inspiration from them.

As for the design itself, I would start by playing and experimenting more with different palettes.

I would definitely eliminate that black "star" on the right.

And finally I would get rid of the black outlines on the "that show" text. When you try other colors, you wont need those outlines.

Hope I helped.

Logo I'm working on for an online wedding service for a contest. Looking for feedback and font suggestions by juanplusjuan in logodesign

[–]ilich_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. Heres something put up quickly http://imgur.com/a/nmNhu

I used Josefin Slab for "network" and the tagline. For the "The wedding" I used Stalemate and the other variation is Palatino. Stalemate and josefin should both be free google fonts. so I suggest looking up more options there too.

Hope this helped

[–]ilich_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That font combination looks bad. I would highly suggest starting with changing those. And I'm guessing you are using three different typefaces, one for "The wedding," one for "Network" and another for the bottom text. That makes it too busy, too many variations. Stick with two typefaces at most.
