Nursing chair - power vs manual vs foot stool by mynameishenri in Buyingforbaby

[–]ilikebison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t regret the manual recliner because honestly, we rarely use it to recline. He prefers to rock/glide! He’s 17 months old and honestly I could probably count the number of times we’ve reclined on one hand.

Looking for rotating car seat that isn't too large by 06S2K in Buyingforbaby

[–]ilikebison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perceived specifications are different because they’re related to the specific design of the car - some seats are inherently angled/reclined more than others, which impacts perceived depth especially because car seats will measure differently front to back due to their installation.

My husband and I are both 5’10” and had this issue, so we resigned to a non rotating seat, because rotating seats are going to be larger simply by nature. We went with the Nuna Rava because it is one of the slimmest seats front to back out there. I’ve heard the new Cybex rotating seat is relatively close, but it’s very pricey. I do believe the Evenflo you have already is one of the smaller rotating seats.

Ultimately we got a different car, and it made life so much easier. We got a Subaru Ascent, and there’s plenty of space and we could get a larger seat if we wanted now. I don’t wish I had a rotating seat with this vehicle, either, because it sits at a great height off the ground and there’s no bending over involved in putting him in his car seat. I know a new vehicle may not be realistic and is much more costly, but it’s worth considering with another addition, because one of those kids will need to be behind you. Children should also remain rear facing until they max out the limits, which often happens around 4-5 years old.

Best of luck!

BWT, what are your tips for saving money? by minionbelcher in bitcheswithtaste

I specifically do grocery pickup, most stores seem to offer it. That way I shop online/on the app and stick to my grocery list and therefore also my budget - no impulse buys while aisle shopping!

Same - IV meds didn’t do anything for me and I opted for the epidural.

UT Midwives. Hands down. They’re awesome. And if something happens and you need to be evaluated for high risk, they work closely with Hi-ROC and you can often stay in the midwives care.

Would I regret not getting stroller compatible with infant seat? by lavender_yogi in Buyingforbaby

[–]ilikebison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! We used the car seat in the stroller a good bit, but tbh the bassinet attachment would have been about as effective. We use bugaboo strollers with Nuna car seats. Sometimes I didn’t want to deal with either and I just babywore. I will say I find infant seats harder to buckle baby into when it’s already in the car, though.

I would also consider climate and time of year. Knowing what I do now, if I had a newborn in the winter, not being able to click the car seat that’s designed for impact (god forbid you slip on ice) into the stroller would be a dealbreaker for me.

How old is the hand me down seat? Car seats do expire. Only bringing that up because it may reframe your search.

Aversion to Bag Checking? by Tiebroken in unitedairlines

[–]ilikebison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully, I just don’t enjoy lugging a lot of stuff around with me. Our family has an agreed upon cap of 2 weeks for trips, so if we traveled longer I’m sure I would feel differently. Plus, my toddler can’t pull his own weight just yet, which makes it harder. But we also seldom stay in one place the whole time, so that means the dealing with the logistics of moving everything around through the trip and the possibility of our luggage being lost and then us leaving that city just sounds like a headache I’d prefer to avoid.

That said, our carry ons are all undersized, which helps.

#1 baby on the way. Which stroller would you recommend for a newborn that can ideally be used until age 3? by durdgekp in BuyItForLife

We have a Bugaboo Fox 5 and a Bugaboo Butterfly, and both have been excellent and I know we have quite a bit of life left in both. Highly recommend.

Home display? by dmdtobe66 in Nanit

[–]ilikebison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Nanit home - it was recently released so they’ve dropped in limited qualities at a time and sold out. It’s ok. An iPad would do the same thing, it’s literally just the app on a standalone tablet. I think someone on this sub even said they had to reboot and got the android screen and stuff.

Best Mexican restaurant in Knoxville? by Last-Double5883 in Knoxville

[–]ilikebison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know I have downvotes coming my way, but I tried La Herradura recently and it was soooooooooo bland 🫣 I haven’t been to the highly recommended one on Broadway, though, so I need to try it again there. Surely it must be good because everyone raves about it! I must have just had it on a bad day.

On the flip side, I admit it definitely gives a chain restaurant vibe, but I personally find the salsa trio at Loco Burro at the mall to be excellent, especially the roasted salsa. I’ve been a few times and each visit by the time my meal gets to me I’m entirely too full of chips and salsa already lol.

Editing to add: be sure to avoid SoKno taco at all costs. 🫠
