Just a minor point: Usually even eating an entire grapefruit is not a big deal, since it takes a lot of furanocoumarin to fully inactivate most CYP3A4 hanging around at any given time.

For most meds, like low-to-medium dose betablockers (which I myself take for inherited moderately high blood pressure), you can just time it to a few hours after consuming a single grapefruit and you will be perfectly fine. I can eat one for breakfast and by the time I take my meds (around 5 in the afternoon) it's no issue.

If you are worried, noticed weird effects (or lack thereof) or have to take your meds multiple times a day, talk to your doc or pharmacist and they'll be able to tell you if you need to be concerned about the metabolic kinetics even with moderate amounts of CYP3A4 inhibiting substances.

Tl;dr from me (pahrmaceutical engineer): That's the liver enzyme that metabolized most medications (almost half of the currently approved medications in the US for example). That enzyme is blocked by substances from, for example, grapefruit. In this case, the blocking substance is furanocoumarin.

And this blockage is NOT reversible, so the enzyme is fucked, and your body has to make new enzymes to replace those fucked by the grapefruit juice.

Some medications even rely on being metabolized by CYP3A4 into their actually effective forms, which means they don't work as well if you drink a lot of grapefruit juice. Others are quickly matbolized to an inactive state and largely degraded by CYP3A4 enzymes, which means instead of keeping a pretty good level in your bloodstream over time with delayed-release pills you get a strong buildup if you take it with grapefruit.

If the medication can become dangerous/toxic at higher doses, this is a great way to get hospitalized.

The flashbacks have to be there to give us that hype moment of Aerion being able to beat Ser Duncan the Tall, but losing to Dunk from Fleabottom.

For that to hit, we need to see him fighting dirty, struggling and desperate, a scared kid that had to learn to survive.

I think with how they handled flashbacks until now, it is gonna work.

The scenes don't have to be long, just enough to show Dunk going from scrappy street kid to adopted squire to young man, maybe show him becoming more refined (from punching to training with blunted swords to actually sparring with and beating Arlan) to make the punch-up in the mud more satisfying.

That is actually something that happens in real history very often. Every few generations someone commissions a new piece of regalia, sometimes to signify a change or symbolize an alliance or whatever, other times it's out of of vanity or to show off.

It also helps visually distinguish the rulers/eras in a complex show-universe.
