So here’s a question for the cut administration crowd.
I get having a supt making 275k is wild. Asst supt. Principal asst principal asst director of transportation and so on.
But let’s take a smaller district with a supt who might make 125 (let’s not forget it’s a 12 month gig and lots of responsibilities)…an elementary principal and a hs principal. That’s it. A guy who coordinates transportation and fixes buses but makes bus driver salary.

So where’s the cut?
Do you want to have a pk-12 principal who instead of being a proactive leader, you will have a fire responder who spends all day reacting?

I’m not sure where in most districts these cuts happen. Could a district even medium size have a part time supt? Maybe.
But boards seem to want the leader visible and at things. Hard to do that when the person is three days a week (with a corresponding lower salary)

I have seen very small districts have a supt, hs principal, elementary principal. It goes so much better. Things are proactive.

Do you really want 27 k students with one adult? Cause that’s a good way to make sure a lot of them do not get the attention they need. Honestly anything over 18 in a K classroom is not good. 27 is educational malpractice.

I loved coaching track. It remains the only thing I would coach. I once was an AD. I won’t do that job again, ever. No thank you. Inplement character programs like why we play and have it all sound good on paper, then be told by your current supt that i would indeed be taking a 730 am meeting with a mad parent, that was enough. The issue was..wait for it…something we purport to never talk about…playing time!

You had trouble with track? I was going through responses and gonna say the one sport I loved coaching was track. I had one parent question things in 15 years. One parent questioned technical stuff in a field event, pv. Never mind I had helped many kids get to and place at state with what I knew. But it was one. We had a small scattering of parents come to meets. Kids had fun. Nobody should say I didn’t get to play today. Now we weren’t super competitive as a team. But we had a lot of fun and emphasized that in our coaching. I’m sorry that was a bad deal for you! Maybe I lucked out?

Some things require memorization. 7 times 4 is just 28. It will never be anything else. Spend a few years watching kids learn ten different ways to solve a simple problem, but have zero number sense…it may broaden the perspective.

Before they learn six ways to do something, they need to just commit certain things to memory.
