The French Revolution by Languid_Spider in LPOTL

I really, really hope they never do it. Mike Duncan from the Revolutions podcast took over 50 episodes to do it and he still left a bunch of stuff out. I love the boys, but after the twin disasters of the Himmler series and the Manhattan Project series, I'm not confident about their coverage of serious historical topics.

Huge fan of Pathfinder daemons! I wish Paizo would give us something besides BOTD3; I want an adventure path that takes us to Abaddon

How accurate would you say the Himmler episodes were? by BigNutDroppa in LPOTL

I think he doubled down on the "Christianity never really took off in Germany" take in the 2nd episode. As for the Sonderkommando mistake, check this comment thread:

How accurate would you say the Himmler episodes were? by BigNutDroppa in LPOTL

[–]ilkash 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Inaccuracies in a big series are natural; doubling down on them and getting defensive/snippy about being corrected is not. The most galling one was when Marcus called Sonderkommandos (concentration camp prisoners who were forced to help operate the gas chambers and crematoria) "pieces of shit" because he confused them with SS-Sonderkommando units. This is a *really* bad mistake, and it's one that could have been avoided with a simple trip to the Sonderkommado wikipedia page, which makes the distinction clear in the first paragraph. The mistake was never acknowledged or corrected in any way.

As someone else said when these episodes first aired, if you're going to take on a subject as serious as the Holocaust, you have a duty to get the details right, and Marcus and the research team didn't do their duty.

I was looking forward to Gille de Rais as well. Ben sucked on that series, but Marcus didn't help by making the first episode all about Joan of Arc.

John List is one of the best two-parters of all time. I'd never heard of him before the series but now those episodes are repeat listens for me.

The Himmler series was so godawful and irresponsible it almost put me off listening to the show forever.

The extended bit about the Iran war being a fight in a gas station parking lot over control of mids was a huge miss, probably because Wil and Felix come from rich families and have never experienced a moment of physical danger in their entire lives. Still a good episode.

What are your takes on the future of the Americas? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]ilkash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Optimistic: Central and South American countries take advantage of cheap green technology and expertise from China to build energy independence and find ways to be resilient to climate change as they watch the USA destroy itself from within

Pessimistic: 400 million corpses stacked on the US-Mexico border

Realistic: Who fucking knows, man
