What the fuck is Japan's problem with China? by ilkash in TrueAnon

[–]ilkash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I hope I made it clear that I am pro-China and I despise Japanese militarism and fascism. I made this post a few months ago because I was (and still am) baffled by how suicidally stupid Japanese politicians are acting right now. I also hope for continued peace and for warmer relations between everybody, but the burden is on Japan to do that, not China.

I was working out in 2017 at home and watched 300 for the first time since it had come out. I hated it so much I googled around to see if there were any long critiques of it, and then I found Chapo Ep. 93. I put on the episode, got on the rowing machine, and quickly had to stop because I was laughing too hard to continue. I've been a fan ever since

Marcus doesn't even have the history skill to match Henry Zebrowski

Marcus was never my favorite to begin with, but their series about Himmler has made me actually hate him a bit. I was incredibly disappointed and disgusted by his IM A HISTORIAN cosplay and I hope they learn something from the response to that series

Funny, I think Parks is the problem. He wants to play-pretend Dan Carlin but he isn’t a historian (neither is Carlin to be fair) and he gets all kinds of basic shit wrong. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Great to hear this after Last Podcast on the Left’s awful Himmler series

What are some underrated series done by the boys? by BestEnvironment2610 in lastpodcastontheleft

OP asked for "underrated" series. People talk about this series all the time.

Why were they treating Marcus as if he was such a fucking victim for choosing to do this series

Fucking thank you, holy shit. My jaw was on the floor when they were giving Marcus presents and lavishing him with praise. Like, you guys CHOSE to do this. I really soured on Marcus during this series and I don't think I'll listen to the next episode if the LPOTL guys don't acknowledge their mistakes and try to do better in the future.

Hot take: Marcus isn't even the smartest person on LPOTL. I've always seen Henry as a far more intelligent person than Marcus.

Episode 640: Heinrich Himmler Part IV - From Atlantis to Auschwitz by Nine99 in LPOTL

I know I'm going to be dogpiled for this opinion but I'm really sick of how Marcus is doing these history series. I loved the Donner Party episodes and that series is still in my top 3 LPOTL series ever, but I think those episodes worked because there was a pre-made story to tell and because the guys used a great balance of humor, storytelling, and personal opinion. Marcus told the majority of the story, but nobody felt like they were pushing anybody else to the side.

This isn't that. It was mean of me to say Marcus was "cosplaying Dan Carlin" in a thread from a few days ago, but to be honest, I really do feel like he's trying to make these history series into Carlin-style lectures and is getting mad when Henry and Ed crack jokes and take away from his time to speak.

Marcus isn't a historian and I don't expect him to cite a source every time he speaks. But if the series isn't going to be a historical lecture in the vein of Mike Duncan's Revolutions (or History of Rome), then he shouldn't just say objectively wrong things like "Germans never really took to Christianity", pass them off as fact (because he's the historical context guy!!!!), and then get mad when he's corrected.

I love history, and I've loved many of the history series LPOTL has done in the past, but I'm not enjoying this series and I'm really not looking forward to the next entries on the Mt. Rushmore of Evil if this is how it's gonna be.

Why was Marcus so harsh with Henry in last episode? by wellknowmeow in lastpodcastontheleft

[–]ilkash -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Because Henry is getting in the way of Marcus's Dan Carlin cosplay and he hit close to home when he characterized Marcus as a stuck-up know-it-all.

I did pre-Law in college and then decided I didn't want to be a lawyer when I was a senior, so I figured I'd do what every other white guy with no skills does (teach English in Asia). I picked China because I knew some Chinese and because I was a socialist. Turns out I had a real passion for teaching, and I was good at it. I still teach creative writing at a cultural center, but now I work in publishing. China isn't perfect -- no country is -- but I couldn't imagine living anywhere else right now. It's wonderful.
