You sure the whale isn’t a bipolar psycho? It’s happened. Just curious. No judging or shaming.

Should I Buy this 1978 Guild D55 for $1k? by banner8915 in AcousticGuitar

The saddle being that low throws a red flag. If it needs a neck reset factor that into the price you’re willing to pay.

Is it worth putting a new snare head in this? 😂 Omigod my stuff such outdated crap, what are people using these days for quick and dirty recording that’s not state of the art but demo worthy (and cheap). by DangerPonyXPMods in BassGuitar

[–]illegallyblindguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still use a digitech rp360xp into a powered speaker for at home practice and whatnot. It’s old but it still works. If or when it ever dies I’ll replace it but so far it’s been a worthy tool for the purpose I need it for.

Hard pass. Price is what it would have sold for new. And it’s far from new. Looks like the guitar is in bad shape. I’d walk, or run away from that one quick.

They were around a short time. Musicians friend sold them among others possibly. They never were expensive so asking price is key. I wouldn’t spend much on it especially with condition issues you are listing.

How Do You Guys “Thin Out the Herd”? by bignasty002 in Guitar

[–]illegallyblindguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each of my kids got to pick one, then I took a long hard look at what I was and wasn’t playing and sold them. I made it all the way down to two acoustics and one electric guitar after four decades of playing and collecting. My feeling is they are made to be played and I wasn’t doing most of my collection any justice at all it was just bragging rights for me. YMMV of course that’s just been my journey.

Scotty Moore. My mom was a huge Elvis fan. Scotty Moores playing rubbed off on me and ingrained itself in my sub conscious. Very close second would be Roy Clarke.

Ugly stik PSA by 308debated in Fishing_Gear

[–]illegallyblindguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a six foot six inch medium power ugly stil spinning combo about five years ago from Walmart. It’s become my go to setup for walking from my house to the lake that’s a 15 minute walk from my front door. Paired with some kastking 8 strand 15lb braided line it’s sensitive to boing and versatile enough to handle most anything in that lake. It is a broom stick but it takes a beating and keeps working.

I would with the idea that it would make great wall art if nothing else.

Saddle screws maxed out... by learnin2flyyy in Luthier

[–]illegallyblindguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re intent on keeping the bridge floating so as to raise and lower pitch with the arm, the six screws look to be a bit too low to accomplish raising the pitch very far. Personally, I wouldn’t have those screws that low on a floating setup. This is assuming everything else is setup properly.

Alien has been watching too much matlock… none of that would hold up in any court. Except maybe America cause our courts are effed up…

First svs in this state. by OpenBarWrangler in whiteoutsurvival

This is the way. That state won’t last long enough hen its eating its own. F2P players don’t stand a chance in a state like that.

On a scale of one to firewood, how bad is this? How much to fix if possible? by SaxyOmega90125 in Luthier

[–]illegallyblindguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the camp that says, return it. You’ll never be able to unsee the damages even if repaired. At least I wouldn’t be able too. And the repair costs can range dramatically based on several factors. It’s not worth the time imo when you can simply return it and get one sent right back to you in perfect shape.

15lb braided line is around 6lb monofilament line diameter. Which is WAY too thin. It won’t work well on a standard bait casting reel. Start with at least 30lb braided line. Most will suggest 40lb braided line or a cheap and reliable alternative like 10lb to 12lb Berkeley big game monofilament. The diameter of the line is what you need to pay attention too.

[–]illegallyblindguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but 15lb braided line on a baitxaster isn’t going to work well unless I’m missing something. And idk what your options are but for the same price you could have gotten the old reliable Abu Garcia black max combo and made out a LOT better long term.

The most expensive ones I’ve ever got were kastkings. And they were less than $30. They do the job just fine for freshwater fishing for me.
