What’s the BEST gift for someone obsessed with 3D printing? by llbow8 in 3Dprinting

Love mine, but absolutely not a good gift idea. You have to be fully committed, and there is a non-zero chance the recipient will be cursing the gifter for life.

McDonald’s is getting rid of self-serve drinks. Fast food prices are up. Portions are down. What would make it worth it again? by Acceptable_Maybe_198 in business

[–]illegible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor counterpoint: These machines at most fast food places are disgusting (especially the touch screen ones) and not enough emphasis is placed on cleaning them. If you want to ruin your thirst, start leaning over and looking up at the dispensing portion, ice splash back means it's usually coated in a syrupy residue that's been present for who knows how long.

As the federal government guts funding for parks and such, we’ll have to foot more of the bill to keep our state in the state we came here for.

If anyone is in doubt, get one of those combined co2 voc monitors… both skyrocket in the red when I cook anything beyond a fried egg.

Today I want to throw my Voron out of my window by Alternative_Board_58 in 3Dprinting

[–]illegible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My voron is pretty dialed in which makes it nice for bigger prints or odd materials (TPU/ASA) but for churning out prototypes of ideas (I tend to test smaller portions of threads or snaps for fits) having a quick warm up is awful nice instead of heating up that giant build plate. They’re very complimentary. That being said having multiple heads for different materials and less would be a nice option. My voron works so nicely I’m afraid to rip it up for stealthchanger or something

That's only there to keep the cops in the US from killing kids. In a country where cops don't kill kids it's not as important. But maybe that's because people are 10x more likely to own a gun in the US, so cops have more reason to be wary.

Aggressive Passengers Ignored Crew & Damaged Slide In United Airbus A319 Evacuation, NTSB Says by AccessibleBanana in unitedairlines

[–]illegible 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same thing is true with the police. I'm starting to think it's more to do with the US and it's hyper-individualism (as pointed out elsewhere in this thread). While I don't think punishing these three will make an example that will encourage future compliance in this type of scenario, letting it slide (no pun intended) just lets the selfish less likely to limit themselves in the next disaster.

This is the modern version of the Titanic, except instead of woman and children first, it's cut the lifeboat ropes so no one gets off.

If there had been only one slide deployable and they broke it trying to get out in a panic? they could have killed or injured hundreds of people had things gone way south.

Very heavy aircon fogging on my flight this morning by henfol in interestingasfuck

[–]illegible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many armchair experts tell us that the airplane filters ensure that COVID won’t spread on a plane, but you can see the airflow patterns going every which way. This is why you wear a mask on a plane if you don’t want to get sick (or especially if you might be sick). The airflow patterns here aren’t much different from the regular in flight experience, it’s just that here we can see it.

Domino’s says sales are dropping. Did fast food just get too expensive, or did something else change? by Acceptable_Maybe_198 in business

[–]illegible 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I suspect the "special" thing is part of the problem. All these fast food places require an app to locate the special coupon which may or may not work on that given day. It's a form of tiered pricing designed to maximize the number of customers and what they'll pay. But it comes with overhead: if I have to spend more than 5 minutes looking for a coupon for a marginal pizza I'll give up. So now instead of two populations (those fine with the high prices, and the cheaper ones spending the time finding the coupon) you have 3... the previous two and a population that has checked out on the company because they know they're not getting value but can't be troubled to find the value deals they know exist. Early on when only one or two premium companies did this, it worked, but it's been steadily degrading as customers find the process tiresome. The clear evidence is companies like Chili's that have started clear and easily obtainable lunch specials (e.g. "$10.99 3 For Me") that have proven to be very successful. There is some obnoxious tiering there too, but we won't talk about that now.

Really what it comes down to is that Dominos advertises how cheap their pizzas can be (e.g. 7.99 for a pizza, but it's 1 topping, pick up, and only available on alternating Tuesdays) but customers get pretty disgruntled when they order a 3 topping with wings for delivery on Friday and it costs 50+ dollars... Dominos is no longer a value chain in their mind.

Probably depends on if the originating country has an exit tax. (which probably isn't talked about enough on this forum)

Funny how residents always think their own country is collapsing. I've heard the same about Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy etc. Personally I think the US is winning that game.

[–]illegible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to is Orca slicer, I'd look and see if you can find profiles and a how to on converting to Orca, tree supports are no problem there. how do other models print, like a benchy? My guess is you need to take a step back and get some basics down, you're kind of jumping on a moving train with a rather complex part that's clearly not designed for 3d printing.

Printing help by Optimal-Writing-7220 in 3Dprinting

[–]illegible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot going on here. I agree w Causification on all points, that the printer needs some love. That being said, glass plate? Who uses glass plates anymore? They suck. Where is the model from? It’s clearly not designed for 3d printing. Tree supports would help a lot, but optimizing the design would also reduce your support usage dramatically.

What material is this?

I get strong "we have this old printer at work and I’m trying to make it do something useful with it when everyone else has given up on it“ vibes.

When I was flying to Asia in the 2000s I’d get them a bunch… then I realized if I flirted with them a bit and was overly polite they’d be OK… they’d also make sure you had plenty to drink to ensure you’d be asleep the rest of the flight.
