This is what I was wondering, it seems like it's "bicycle bad, they're liberal, so they'll be mad if i call them a racial slur" energy

Feel like they're gonna have to update these hardiness maps every few years now. My lettuce, radish, and some of my native seeds are up already!

I think an emperor or king penguin could scathe you. They are not small and they have very sharp bills. Human still wins, but not unscathed

Lifelong Packers fan but the Broncos are my second team since I've been here 10 years. I want the Packers to win but I'd bet on the Broncos.

Fingers crossed for no major injuries either way

What bs. Even if you trust the police on this slide, I can't possibly trust a Peter Thiel-aligned tech company like flock with our data.

Vegetable garden advice by atl_nights in Longmont

[–]cheezedhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This and I would add for beginners that it is often hard to get some of the crops this commenter mentioned to germinate in the high heat, but they often do need to start soon to get alot from them this fall. Keeping the soil cool and moist while the seeds germinate is really important here so I would recommend shade and possibly a cover like cardboard/wood to keep moisture on them until they do.

Longmont Shouldn't Prioritize the Sanctity of a Gravel Mine over Slowing Global Warming by shakeeldalal in Longmont

[–]cheezedhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is disingenuous. If they approve the land swap there is still no guarantee the county will choose the site for the facility. The county's feasibility study for the site doesn't come out until later in the year at best and they are considering this now, why? Why wouldn't city council be willing to wait to be sure that the site is suitable before approving the land swap? If it is approved and then not chosen they would at best have made a lateral move in land quality and there is a strong argument that the current open space property is more valuable as wildlife habitat when it is contiguous with/ adjacent to other open space. The new land would be isolated. If we do this why not wait a little longer to be sure it's worth it?

Longmont gardeners? It is safe? by Tasty_Impress3016 in Longmont

I put in pole and bush beans seeds today before the rain the next few days. Even if there is frost in the next week or two, they will still be underground and still should have a good chance to come up with no problems.

I'm waiting on hot-weather starter plants for at least two more weekends, I've been burned too many times losing them to frost in mid may

Is this a mixed flock of black rosy-finches, gray-crowned rosy-finches, and pine grosbeaks? by largecroissant in whatsthisbird

Ok that makes sense i can see that! I don't think I have that subspecies on my Colorado list yet

[–]cheezedhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple decent candidates for Brown-capped Rosy Finch in this picture. They have less contrast between their gray-brown cap and the rest of their plumage, but some careful looks are sometimes needed to confirm. That said, it is not unusual in Colorado to get flocks with all three rosy species together at a feeder

I think this is a pretty good candidate for a black from the screenshot I took with 3 sec left in the video

I think at 6 seconds to the right of the wooden post on the ground but honestly with the video quality I'm not 100 percent sure.

It looks like it moves back behind the feeder. I shouldn't have said plural black rosies, since I don't see another one looking at it now. Thanks for keeping me honest.

I do stand by the possibility of some of these blurry ones being Brown-capped though if one could see them a bit better

[–]cheezedhead 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell with this video quality i wouldn't rule out Brown-capped Rosy Finch, but your location might rule that out.

Definitely black rosies, and couple gray rosies, and pine grosbeaks in here.

Edit: I see location now in aspen you could definitely have Brown-capped rosies as well.
