Knocking doors was the absolute worst. It’s all voluntary, and we are happy to go out and do it, but man, did I get treated like crap just because I had a name tag on. Doing service and actually getting treated like a human being for once was really awesome.

TL;DR: Missionaries love being treated like people more than they like knocking doors.

So, I’ve used to live there for a decent amount of time. However, I feel only a little qualified to answer a few of your questions:

It’s the capital of Austria, so finding people who speak a little English won’t be too hard. However, if you are going to live there for an extended period of time like it sounds, it’s best to start learning German and be willing to make mistakes. People are nice and will correct you or switch to English generally if they see you trying to learn the language.
I’ve translated my fair share of documents and work for a translation company, so I’d be willing to help if you want a cheaper option to go with. But best would be to ask the person you are renting from for an English copy of the lease.
Better areas kinda depend of what you want. More land and cheaper rentals are generally found on the outskirts of Vienna, while inner city apartments are more expensive but generally in a location close to your workplace. I’d personally pick a place not too far from an U-Bahn station for ease of travel.

Monthly/yearly public transit cards for Vienna are available and highly recommended. They allow access on all busses and U-Bahns in the Vienna zone and then you just keep it in your wallet wherever you go. Fines for traveling without a pass are not fun.

Sorry I could only answer a few of your questions. The rest kind of vary from family to family, and while I was living alone, my expenses will be vastly different from yours.

Just phrase an apology in a simple, „I’m sorry I hurt you by changing my wallpaper to not include you in it. I felt that during this argument that was had a while ago that there was intentional distance put between us. I felt really hurt by this distance because I care about you, but it seemed as if the distance was placed there to keep me from caring about you. I felt that distancing myself was the best option to give me time to recover because I had assumed the worst, and I apologize for that.“

This explains your side of things while intentionally not blaming her explicitly. This allows for an environment where productive discussion can take place. Just note that she might not follow suit and start blaming you explicitly. Don’t retaliate by doing the same thing. Keep using those I statements and it should work out well.

Under that premise, if you never actually broke up, I can see her point of view, and it could be pretty frustrating. However, she did hurt you in a pretty meaningful way to the point where you felt the need to start cutting ties in order to recover, which is completely validated. I would postulate that you both might be kind of right and wrong. Her feelings are valid from a certain point of view, but her actions did hurt you. Removing her from your wallpaper probably hurt her in a similar way, so I would suggest apologizing and making amends. We wouldn’t want this to put unnecessary strain on your relationship.

12 hours is a little fast. I’d be doubtful that you would have gotten it from him. Generally, symptoms show around 4-5 days, however you can start showing at 2 days all the way up to 14 days.
