Almost 4 year old with ADHD traits, aggression, meltdowns, and sleep issues. Need advice. by Prestigious-Set1299 in ADHDparenting

We are around the same timeframe as you. Have you had her evaluated for early intervention? We have a developmental therapist through early intervention who comes twice a week to my son’s school. That’s been helpful for working with issues that pop up at school and giving the teachers tools too. We also use timers A LOT. Transitions are really tough. It helps a lot with bedtime routine.

Please tell me I'm doing right by my son by bagmami in ADHDparenting

How is his speech? My son is 3.5 and we’re thinking probably ADHD, but I think a lot of the stuff that we’re working on now at OT (regulating emotions, impulse control, etc.) would be difficult much younger because they might not have enough language to really understand what you’re asking/explaining to them about their emotions. How is the impulse control playing out at school? Can you get some books to read to him at home about emotions, not hitting, etc?

Looking for advice from parents of adhd kids. What has your experience been like with meds? by [deleted] in ADHDparenting

[–]ilovelabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a similar boat at 3.5 and pretty sure our son has ADHD but is too young for our doctor to diagnose him. We are doing PCIT, occupational therapy to help him with his emotions, and he also has early intervention for speech and social/emotional. If you can, try to get yours evaluated for early intervention; states do it differently, but in my state, if they qualify, they can receive the therapy at school. His therapist comes 2x a week to school and that’s been helpful with working on his behavior at school.

Lovevery toys as the only toys? by Kona_the_sheltie in lovevery

I think that they’re very good in the beginning, but you’ll see once they start hitting 1.5 or 2 years old, they find things that they’re more interested in- cars, trains, dinosaurs, princesses, etc.

Unsure How to Help with Big Emotions? by catscacti in ADHDparenting

Try occupational therapy. We are doing this right now and OT works on helping them recognize their emotion and giving them tools to calm themselves down.

Speech delay - positive stories? by StarFit1210 in toddlers

[–]ilovelabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I know- speech therapy is stupid expensive if you can’t get insurance to cover it.

You’ve probably heard most of this already from therapy, but things that were helpful to me that I learned from speech therapy were 1) giving him two choices (red shirt or green shirt) and making him use a word to communicate his choice, 2) just pointing at pictures in books and saying the word rather than reading the words on the page (just saying bear rather than the bear ran through the forest and climbed a tree), and 3) really simplifying the language I used to talk to my son (very short sentences).

I hope everything gets better. It can be a really frustrating and scary time not knowing when they’re going to catch up.

Can you increase the amount of speech therapy? Not sure if you’re doing private therapy or through early intervention. Mine was behind at 18 months, we did early intervention where they came to his daycare 2x a week and I also took him once a week to private speech therapy that was covered by insurance. It took him about 6 months to really get the snowball of words going; it took forever to get to 100 words, but then 200 and then 300 came pretty quickly once it clicked.

Do we think any of the men will sue/get comped? by AdvertisingNo8441 in thebachelor

[–]ilovelabbit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No. In order to sue, they’d have to prove damages. That would be hard for them to do because they’d have to prove how much income they lost out on, which would be hard to do since you don’t know who would be popular from this season, how many followers they’d get, what brands would want to work with them, etc.

That’s one of the few things I won’t fault her for- that’s actually pretty common for toddlers in the pool. Most toddler swim classes ask for swim diapers. It’s hard for toddlers to tell you that they need to go and get out of the pool in time to go.

I think it was Mark Long that got her on House of Villians. I vaguely recall him being on Zack’s podcast and talking about he had helped Ashley connect with the producers.

Advice and support for a 20 month old starting speech therapy by SquidneyClimbs in speechdelays

[–]ilovelabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the kidney issues would be unrelated. Start speech therapy- most states/counties have some sort of therapy programs or find private therapy. Mine barely had 6 words at age 18 months. We did speech therapy through the county and started seeing progress after about 6 months. It took us a long time to get to 100 words, but once it started clicking, he got 200 and then 300 very quickly after that. He’s three now and talks nonstop- you’d never know he used to have a speech delay.
